Doctors Who Prescribe Methadone (Top voted first)
UpdatedI am addicted to strong pain meds and I am tired of having to come off of them, the withdrawal is awful. I went to a urgent care doc and was prescribed suboxone. I take anxiety meds too but he wants me to stop. I really need the anxiety meds but he wants me off them. How do I get him to change it from suboxone to methadone so I can take my anxiety meds?
Private doctors are treating patients with methadone. They have to have a DEA number. Most doctors that prescribe it are writing it for pain. If they prescribe it for addiction then different rules apply, he has to be an addiction specialist but you do not have to go in for daily dosing.
America the great ! You can buy a gun anywhere with piece of I.D (fake or not) but you can't get methadone without a fight.
Yes Susan. I had been taking Methadone for Peripheral Neuropathy pain for 8 years with pretty good success. I've had the Neuropathy for 18 years and have gone thru all the trials of meds I could stand. None of them worked. Until Methadone !!
It relieves enough of my pain that I can function pretty well. Much better than when I was taking other narcotic meds or anti-depressants that most doctors will insist on giving U. Those doctors do not know enough about Neuropathy to treat us. Run away from them & find an Anesthesiologist. Most of them have the correct license to write the script that U need.
Nothing else has worked on me. However, I'm finding that in New Jersey, most of the qualified doctors who can prescribe the Methadone for me are not willing to anymore because of sanctions demanded by the DEA lately. I'm not sure what they are, but I feel it's extremely unfair to pain patients who need it for relief.
If U can find a good anesthesiologist who is willing to write U the script, do go to them fast !! U will get relief.
If U know of any in central N.J. please forward who it is, so I can go too !! I have been on a wild goose chase for the last 6 months.
Because of these DEA fears, I have lost my last 2 doctors. Currently I am without meds and suffering like Hell.
I wish U all the luck & success in finding the right doctor to treat U. It will work !!
yes you can be prescribed both as long as your not on a high dosage and aren't abusing,a doctor will prescribe both because just because they give you something to take away or help with pain doesn't mean anxiety goes away.
Buddy I been on methadone for 13 years and I know for a fact doctors are backing away from prescribing benzos (Xanax, Valium, & other anxiety meds) with methadone because the mixture is very dangerous & there's been an epidemic of overdoses from mixing methadone & narcotic anxiety pills. It'll be much easier to get anxiety meds with suboxon. Good luck
That is false he writes the prescription for 90 a month u have to go every month take a drug test to show u r taking that med an nothing else he give u a new script an u come back next month
That is so very true, jon !!
I've been being treated for pain for the last 8 years with Methadone. Lost my doctor, and when I tried to find a new one, I had a Hell of a hard time. Most assumed I was an addict and refused to treat me. Left me in pain for several months, until I finally got into a hospital based pain management program, which I am in now. Thank God !! And thank God the doctor I got understands what is happening today too. It gets him angry also. My only complaint about him, is that he has to keep insisting I try the installation of an electrical device I am 100% against. I feel there are too many risks, it isn't totally helpful for all pain patients, and I just don't want to be cut open for a trial, that probably will not help me. Why should I...when a pill helps ? It's so much easier on me this way.
He understands, but every month I hear the same thing. Sheesh !!
It really pisses me off that U can go out & get a gun easier than get your meds if your on Methadone for pain.
I was offered every other kind of narcotic for my pain, but I well knew they would not work.
Got plenty of Morphine, Nucynta, Percocet, etc..Even offered me some Dilaudid. They don't help me and I didn't want them. What they basically told me, was to use them & shut up about my pain. The jerks !! They put me thru HELL !! (including my Primary)
I guess if I was an addict, I would've been a very happy girl !! NOT....NOT an addict !! Helloooooooo.
Geez...I didn't even get a slight "high" when trying to use those other drugs, tho I'm sure many would have.
Thanks jon.
Susan, If U have Neuropathy and go to the correct pain management doctor, they should be able to write U s script for the Methadone to see if it's a good medication for U. It works for me, as well as some others I know of.
Good luck wherever your at by now.
I know for a FACT that a doctor can not by law percribe methadone as a percription for addiction the pills are completly different than the liquid they give to addicts. Hence why the doctor at urgent care gave you suboxone which is a opiod blocker thats why you had to bge "dope sick" the first dose yoiu took. If you find any doctor to give you pills for addiction and benzod to boot ill give you 1000 bucks to tell me where he is cause i want to go there!!!!
chad I don't know if I misunderstood you but I do know a medical Dr. can prescribe methadone for pain if he has a DEA#. He should not be writing for addiction unless he's an addiction specialist, both will be in pill form. Clinics do it fo pain & addiction. It's liquid form so they can watch you drink it. Valium isn't a benzo as long as your Dr. prescribes it you can take it with suboxen. Dr. and pharmacies all tap into together so the both know what you're taking. Do not take subox too soon, you will have acute withdrawels.
My best advice to U is to find one of your local hospitals and ask if they can take U into their pain management program. Most hospitals have one. They will explain their process to U. Then it turns into a matter of waiting to be called in & evaluated.
I suffered while I was waiting, was had no trouble when they finally did call me back. Start preparing your records to bring in with U now. Get a rundown of all your scripts for the past year or more from your pharmacy. Mine printed mine up right away. Like in 10 minutes. The doctors like this, so do it for them. They will need proof that you've been taking the meds like U say U have. Without any proof, U will get nothing.
Good luck !!
Jo You really should not post if you do not know what you are talking about,.
(1) Methadone blocks opiates not benzos.
(2) I do not think there is Methadone any clinic that charges 65.00 a day. That is about what they charge in many parts of the country for a week.
(3) You can take drugs from other doctors you just have to give them a copy of the prescription. Granted many clinics will not let you take benzos. Many do allow them..
I have been going to a clinic for five years and do not know where you are getting your information. I do know you need to get a new source.
Re: Jo (# 22)
Say that after you've been in an accident had half your knee cap removed the other knee cap crushed 35 Staples in one knee 40 in the other for other surgeries and still going strong I was recommended to pain management because not only did I have the knee surgeries but slipped discs in my back and broken ankle that was twisted the wrong way and took several surgeries also so when people say I'd rather live then try and find a way to deal with the pain it really upsets me put yourself in someone else's shoes if you were in constant pain or the person you love your son or daughter were in pain all the time and could barely walk would you want them to feel better or just deal with it and be glad they're waking up every day because honestly if I didn't have methadone in my life I would have killed myself a long time ago because living a life of constant suffering is not a life at all!
The main pharmacological properties of methadone are similar to morphine and the other narcotics (codeine, Demerol, dilaudid, etc.). Cross-tolerance occurs with all other opiates. That is, the administration of any opiate will eliminate or stem the withdrawal symptoms of any other opiates. One is not addicted to both heroin and methadone - one is addicted to the drug class Opiates.
Opiate!!!!!
They are Opiates and Jo please stop acting so innocent and naive you know dang well that Methadone is a narcotic opiate...have you never read the paper that the pharmacist hands out with your medications? It is people like you actually that make doctors Leary of writing pain medications for people that truly need them. I mean you can not sit here and say that in 8 years of taking methadone you have not seen the story about Anna Nicole Smith and her son and you do not know that methadone makes people HIGH? Really stop this act it is sickening!!
Not any more. No more combining as said by the CDC, FDA, & DEA.
BTW, as mentioned before the DEA has their fingers in every pie. This means when you go to the Dr.'s, pharmacy, hospital, etc... they are privy to a printout that shows your use for an entire year; when you got refills, for how many, for how long, if you are flagged for anything like rehab, overdose, criminal charges, early refills hospital visits (if you required opiates or benzos), etc.... EVERYTHING is there for them to see at a glance - I've seen this printed out. So if you have a habit of visiting ER's for "lost meds" or faking kidney stones or whatever they can see it. I am only telling you this so you know what you are up against and don't look like a fool not knowing what they know. Perhaps in the rural areas it isn't so regulated - I reside in a metro area with high drug seeking use. In fact a former friend, wore out his welcome at the hospital visiting the ER. All the doctors came into his room and had a quasi intervention. They assigned him a pain doctor to go see; they did give him a Rx and told him that was the last one and not to come back. He did go in twice after being hit by a car; falling in the bathtub, scenarios I believe he created on his own just to get pain medication, I even took him there once because he told me he broke his back - of course he lied - he bruised his shoulder and that is why we are no longer friends. Hate liars.
I have a friend on suboxon and you can take anxiety meds,I hate when doctors say they don't discriminate?
NO doctor willl let you take methadone and benzos and doctors cant perscribe methadone as a addiction only for pain you will have to go to a methadone clinic for that but they will expect you to stop the benzos they will tell your doctor to put u on a taper
Hi I have had a total hip replacement and have other issues with chronic pain. I was traveling 6-8 hors one way to see my doc. I can no longer drive that far as my prothesis has been recalled and is becoming very painful to say the least. I have been on methadone for 18 years and would like to find a doc closer to home. I live in KY on the TN VA line. If you could help me find another doc I would be so grateful. I have read many posts on here about people's need for pain management and it breks my heart. My phone # is 606{edited for privacy}. If you could just give me a call and let me know the docs name and address you wouold be helping me immensley.
Chad, this is an lol not being rude our criticizing but my old doc used to prescribe me methadone for my chronic pain in a pretty high dose (120 mgs a day) and xanax and klonopin every month. Do I get the $1000 if I tell you who he is & where his office is? Lol just saying, it does happen, I can prove it. I am currently with a different doc but I still get methadone for my chronic pain, MUCH smaller dose, Norco for break thru pain ( it's very well documented what medical issues I have, from 17 abdominal surgeries to scoliosis & degenerative disc disease in C1-C7 of my neck and a diseased liver) plus I get kolonpin for anxiety/ depression. :-) best of luck to ALL on this page looking for relief.
Vicki.....I don't live in your area, so I have no numbers to give U. But my best advice to U is to find one of your local hospitals and ask if they can take U into their pain management program. Most hospitals have one. They will explain their process to U. Then it turns into a matter of waiting to be called in & evaluated.
I suffered while I was waiting, but had no trouble when they finally did call me back. Start preparing your records to bring in with U now. Get a rundown of all your scripts for the past year or more from your pharmacy. Mine printed mine up right away. Like in 10 minutes. The doctors like this, so do it for them. They will need proof that you've been taking the meds like U say U have. If U have any empty script bottles, that will help also. Bring it all in with U. Without any proof, U will get nothing.
Hopes for the best !!
