I am addicted to strong pain meds and I am tired of having to come off of them, the withdrawal is awful. I went to a urgent care doc and was prescribed suboxone. I take anxiety meds too but he wants me to stop. I really need the anxiety meds but he wants me off them. How do I get him to change it from suboxone to methadone so I can take my anxiety meds?

1st I believe it is unethical for a Dr. to retire (it is for dentists) without giving notification to his/her patients and also providing someone for them to see or follow up with in the meantime. I am going through the exactly same thing - different drugs but same situation. The new doctor thinks they know best, better than you of course although it is your body, you take the medication, and you know what works best for you. I am sure you have signed a pain contract as well. You may need to find a new pain doctor. What I do know about Methadone is that it is great for pain. It is a long lasting opiate so when they are long lasting you don't get the same "euphoria" that is felt with the short acting opiates. People tend not to abuse Methadone, it just makes you sweat, you don't feel high, so it is a smart choice for most doctors. I don't know much about the oxy's for a comparison but what you know about Methadone and what I tell you and what others tell you or you read up on it, you will be very informed.

I have been treated for 8 years with a pain management doctor with methadone. It has been a God send. My doctor retired with no notice, I am trying to find a new pain doctor to continue my treatment, and it's so hard to find one. They want to give Oxycodone, etc. I don't want that. I was feeling great, now I just don't know what to do! New Jersey!

Blakesdad, I so sorry for ur situation I get it totally but for some reason Vancouver Wa, @ Portland area there's no doctor that I can find to help in methadone other than a clinic @ ur supposed to tell them ur there for being an addict so u c how crazy it gets I've tried looking for doctor who can write dolphin pills so I can b home like other old lady's, just to b normal so if I happen to find one that may give me my last yrs on this earth I'll certainly let u no, for I just want to b comfortable @ normal grandma to think about going to clinic rest of my yrs its heart breaking I'll b 70 in 8 yrs I'm so tired of being broke or lifeless, so I keep looking if u have good insurance Kaiser can help is what I understand so u maybe lucky at that I have ssi so I'm blocked there also.let me no if something good comes of ur efforts, hang in there.

Where do u live that Dr at urgent care can write methadone? I never seen it anywhere. I live in Washington st, Portland Oregon u can find doc to write suboxin but not done, unless u have cancer. There r alot of chronic pain patient @ addiction patients that have to go to methadone clinic. Now if u no of doctor who can write to help chronic pain patient methadone in the Vancouver, wa. Portland area please getting to old @ crippled to go in clinic everyday just to b somewhat normal yes please. Let me no for I fear the rest of my yrs the clinic will take my ssi checks, my roof over my head my car everything till I'm 90 yrs old living on streets just to feel normal @ miserable the poor will suffer, the pain will continue for no doctor gives a crap how much pain ur in or how old u r its not happening in my lifetime for any human hands to help the painfully old.

I don't think just any regular family doctor will write a prescription for methadone. You have to go to a pain specialist. Are you telling a fib? I wouldn't recommend going to aregular doctore

I was on 145mgs in about 3 years at the clinic and im very small. I weigh 120 pounds. I'm 27 yrs old but now im off of it and didn't feel no withdrawals at all. I would come down only 10% of my dose when I was on 100mgs then I would come down 10mgs and then when I got down to 50mgs then I would only take 5mgs and I didnt rush it bc if u do rush your just gonna relapse. it feels like forever but be patient it will pay off. I thought the withdrawals would be horrible but really I didnt hardly feel any real hard withdrawals. I thought I would have no energy after I got off but i was surprised. Now I have been off methadone for 2 weeks and 1 day and I feel good... the key is being patient and coming down very very slowly... u have to have that 'want to' kind of mind too.. my drive to getting off methadone was because I was tired of driving 45min away to get there and waganing my 3 kids out every 2 weeks and the cost of the clinic ...and I really got tired of taking something every morning just to get out of bed.. I had my last 2 kids while on methadone. My second child I was on 145mgs and that was 12/9/12 and now im off if that gives u a good idea how long it took me to come down very very slowly.. but I wish u the best of luck... I will keep u in my prayers.. just have faith in yourself. And you can do it.....

Sorry to say any doctor who writes for methadone is not going for benzo not in this country anyway. I'm surprised an urgent care doc gave u sub for there just as additive as any other narcotics maybe we'll it is even more so. Ur in a hard spot wish I had an answer but what I said is true

I am struggling to find my way to freedom from the roller coaster. Can I taper down from 35mgs methadone to zero? Will withdrawal be bearable from zero? I am 62yrs old, had a total right hip replacement and took oxy for pain. When I stopped, thought I would die. WITHDRAWAL BRUTAL. help me somebody. I'm too old and weak for severe withdrawal.

That is not true, I have been to at least 10 regular Dr's office and have always gotten my methodone and I take 20 10 mg methodone a day along with 8 oxycodone 30 mg pills a day

I have been an opiate addict for over 10 years. I have had some clean time during that span, no more than 3 years at a time. I've been using again for the last 10 months and want to stop more than anything. I've tried suboxone and subutex briefly and they really didn't work or it was so expensive to get them legally thru a registered doctor. I'm in Portland, OR and I really want to find a doctor that could prescribe me methadone. I want my life back. I know that I'm an addict and a doctor can't prescribe methadone to treat addiction, so what can I do??!! I really can't go to the clinic daily to take my dose due to my schedule. I have a great doctor right now and I would have no problem being completely honest with her but what if she completely shuts me down and "flags" my record so I can't get the medicine anywhere.

I hope I'm making sense!! Any advice will help. Thanks

I take methadone pill at a clinic and my doctor gives me adderall 2 times a day plus 3 1mg kalonpin per day he sign the Coc for clinic and have been taking my kalonpin 3yrs adderall for 2 yrs and methadone for 3 plus yrs everyone is peachy with my drs ps I am pro-marijuana that is the only thing my regular doctor has a problem with I'm 28 with server joint problem childhood pts and adhd,but I will never put marijuana down completely but I have reduced the amount on my other meds but I believe that 1000 dollars belong to me.thanks

I been going to a methadone clinic bit also paying 90 bucks weekly, I cannot afford this anymore, I been told my insurance will pay for monthly script pills but don't know of a doctor who'll help me. I live in Bangor, ME any ideas.
