Doctors Who Prescribe Methadone (Page 5) (Top voted first)

Updated

I am addicted to strong pain meds and I am tired of having to come off of them, the withdrawal is awful. I went to a urgent care doc and was prescribed suboxone. I take anxiety meds too but he wants me to stop. I really need the anxiety meds but he wants me off them. How do I get him to change it from suboxone to methadone so I can take my anxiety meds?

Yes, the CDC or one of the lettered agencies has designated no more opiates and benzos to be prescribed at the same time. My valium was taken away all 10 pills/ month. Sucks!

YOUR lookin to manipulate people to get your "fix"Just thinking aloud but what entitles you 2 feel pissed that strangers are going to give you names of quality physicians legitemly treating TRUE PATIENTS IN NEED OF SUCH TREATMENT MODALITIES. I hope the good people on here continue to hold the anonymity of these quality professionals for a long time to come. We are NOTALLBAD

Yes you can take methadone with anxiety Meds I have been on methadone for 3years at a clinic in the Tampa bay are and I have been on klonopin for 2mg twice a day. And the clinic knows they count them once a month to make sure I'm not abusing them which I have never been into benzos I just have panic disorder. So Im not sure where you got your information but just letting you know its false.

Exactly!!! I have said it twice now, I'm on benzos and methadone at a clinic. I have to have them counted once a month at the clinic but they obviously don't know what they are talking about

Haley your giving information that isn't correct, maybe some doctors won't but as long as they are prescribed to you and the clinic knows then there isn't an issue. Shoot, a friend of my moms had cancer and was on xanax, methadone and oxycodone so don't say they don't do it because some people have panic disorder or anxiety like myself and have to take a benzo. My klonpin is 2mg twice a day which is the most a doctor can prescribe for the medication. I live in Florida and know some state laws are different but your statement isn't true.

I'm on 4mg of klonpin a day and I'm down to 35mg of methadone and if you take it as prescribed then you will be fine, sorry to say this but the person you know that passed away was obviously taking way more then suppose too. Any medication you take you can OD on, and if you go to a clinic and they count your meds monthly so YOU CAN TAKE THE TWO TOGETHER!!! JUST DEPENDS ON THE DOSAGE. There's a little information for you pilgram. I'm sorry for your loss. But if you read up on it, they can be mixed as long as a doctor knows your on methadone and gives you a dosage that is low and not like 4bars a day. Every state is different but thats how it is in Florida.

Please, you do NOT want to get onto methadone. It is an evil drug, I know as I was on it for ten years. I went off it cold turkey and it was hell. I was also on benzodiazapines, again I cold turkeyed off of them too. I am now nine months free of these harmful drugs and i could not be happier. I have chronic pain and major anxiety which is why I was put on these drugs. Now that I am off them I can see that I was extremely over medicated. Yes I have pain but also now there is joy in my life again. Methadone may kill the pain but it also kills the joy and other feelings. You are just a zombie and it is not worth it. I will live with the pain so that I can experience the joy and other emotions again. Also, whatever you are taking methadone for you will forever be labelled as a junkie. It will follow you via your medical records forever and no matter if it is for chronic pain or for getting off opiates, you will be treated as a junkie. I know this from experience.

I feel your pain, literally I have many of the same problems you report. If smoking the marijuana does not help your pain don't smoke it, take it orally. You must cook it into something with butter, or a lipid of some type. It will take a half hour to an hour to kick in but you should feel some relief. Good luck. Maybe there is a "compassion club" you could join, they provide medical marijuana and often operate anonymously.

Yes exactly. Thats what people are getting, I do live in a southern state(Florida) and I'm on methdone and for anxiety I take 2mg of klonopin twice a day for anxiety. You just can't take it at the same time as your methadone. But people keep saying they will not prescribe both which maybe in some states. But I'm on both as well and I'm fine and have never overdosed by taking it as prescribed.

It's not the dea who controls narc rx's on the US any longer, even the fda until a couple of years ago was the govt agency controlling these issues. It's now changed to the cdc. That's correct, the centers for disease control now controls policy for these drugs and it has become what my doctor told me, the following, verbatim (first let me interject, I'm am a 100% disabled veteran, wounded in service) - she told me that "the policy at the va, and nationally, is to get ALL chronic pain patients off of ALL pain medications") - her words not mine, AND, this is national policy, not just veterans. So nice, wounded in service and this is how they treat ALL veterans now, multiple amputees, shot up vets like me, and on, and on. Believe it, or be like me and start asking your docs and stop taking this bs sitting down. No one, NO ONE on this earth is above you because of schooling, ridiculous... Now, have at it, seriously. Thanks for reading. I'm not just damn angry, this is the truth now in our country. Welcome to torture, welcome to hell. Have a nice day, I mean it...

I found one doctor who allowed me to be on Xanax and methadone simultaneously. That's very rare. It worked wonders for me if you take both as prescribed. Good luck

Doctors can’t prescribe benzos (Valium, Xanax, Klonopin, etc) with Methadone either?

I am a chronic pain patient who recently moved to Houston, Tx and take methadone for Intractable pain. Since the government has interfered with our health care I am having trouble finding a doc to prescribe. I did locate a Neurologist that I absolutely loved and recently retired with a month notice. He referred me to a pain physician in the same clinic and I assumed he would continue with my treatment that gave me a quality of life or at least prescribe a long acting medication since he had a problem with Methadone. I went to my second visit and his PA told me that the doctors intentions were to ween me off because he doesn’t really prescribe narcotics and does interventional treatment. I have had every interventional procedure known to man...Anyway I need help locating a physician who still has compassion for his patients and prescribes Methadone. If not methadone, I have been on Diuragesic Patches before although they cut my skin terribly and wasn’t wanting to have to take Oxycontin but will if I have no choice. I am in Houston, Tx area. Thanks fellow Pain Warriors

Re: Lorimactot (# 386) Expand Referenced Message

Yes they can, maybe not all states or counties but I have been on both for 5 years. As long as you take your klonopins or whatever you're on and as prescribed then you are fine. I live in Tampa Bay Florida and I go to a clinic. The only warning the doctor gave me is to not take my klonopin within 4hrs of dosing. So I am prescribed both legally. The MMT has to count my meds monthly to make sure I'm not abusing them. I think it's ridiculous that doctors won't prescribe a benzo if someone truly needs it. I have panic disorder and I'm on methadone due to abusing opiates. So I need them both and Florida is pretty good about it.

Call your customer service, through your insurance. They should provide you with a list of Dr.s who prescribe methadone. Dr.s have to have a special license now..through the DEA to prescribe it. Good luck!!! I'm in the same boat...in oregon.

Valium is most definitely a Benzo, in the same category as Xanax, Ativan and Klonopin. No doctor will knowingly prescribe Suboxone when you're on any kind of Benzo. I know this from experience.

If you do the Step down, withdraw properly, you won't even feel methadone withdrawal. I came off after 18 years on methadone at 190 mg. It took me 2 years to step down but I never felt withdrawal at all. All the people who doubt this misconception need to stop just because they try to jump off. At a high-dose doesn't mean that the rest of the world is morons too. And towting suboxone is a miracle drug is just stupid if you think it's a miracle drug I relapsed after 3 years off of methadone and I went on suboxone after 6 months taking it stay and clean, I ended up in the hospital for 5 days in a few states. Not knowing who I was or who anyone else was. And thankfully, the doctor knew it was the suboxone causing it. It took 5 days after stopping for me to recover. 18 years on methadone. No problem 6 months on subs. And I lost who I was for 5 days. I have never felt worse than any other medication than suboxone. It never rid me of my cravings it only got rid of the withdrawal. I constantly was thinking about my next dose of sub, and they had me up to 4 -12mg a day. I even tried sublocade shot. No relief from cravings. If I'm in recovery, I don't want to constantly think about the drug. I'm recovering from and if you can't get rid of my cravings then obviously, your drug isn't working. They both have their ups and Downs. But methadone has been around for many, many more years. And there's been a lot more research on it. Subs were created to make a book in the painkiller market. Until they realized it didn't work very well as a painkiller. If you don't believe me, there is a documentary all about the creation of subs. After the formula was perfected and approved 16 people from the office that created it went and checked into a hotel together, and each of them had 5 to 10 subs, and they basically went and got high. This is the medication that is a miracle cure for addiction. But it was created to get people high. Methadone was created to relieve trauma pain. If I had been thinking clearly I would have never done the switch to subs. I would have stayed with what has been researched and been around forever. I was cleaned for 18 years. I was able to step down off of it. I never felt anywhere at all and I only relapsed after I had been off of it for a few years. I'm currently back on it and I will stay on it for the rest of my life just so I can remain clean. I'm taking 160 mg this time. I'm at a new greater clinic than any other I've been to. This clinic gives you 6 takehomes after 28 days clean or not. As long as you see your counselor twice and then once a month. And you show a real desire to change. You will get your 6 take homes after 28 days of dosing.

If anyone is interested in the name of the clinic I go to and it's location, and you are in either greater, DEL MarVa or southern Pennsylvania, they still do 6 take homes after 28 days. You go up to thirteen takehomes after two clean U/A's. The maximum I believe for our clinic is twenty eight. Maybe 29. {edited for privacy}
