Doctors Who Prescribe Methadone (Page 21) (Top voted first)

I am addicted to strong pain meds and I am tired of having to come off of them, the withdrawal is awful. I went to a urgent care doc and was prescribed suboxone. I take anxiety meds too but he wants me to stop. I really need the anxiety meds but he wants me off them. How do I get him to change it from suboxone to methadone so I can take my anxiety meds?

@ Jo I have tried to be very nice to you and have never accused you of anything you sure have some major paranoia going on there. Maybe you feel guilty for something you have done or are doing. I have merely tried to engage you in taking personally responsibility for your action and posts. I think however you are looking for confrontation on here so I am going to not post to you or about you any longer, GROW UP.! You are immature and very aware of what the drugs are you are using and try to come off all innocent and unaware. YOU are the one that has felt the need to reply to any and everyone on this thread in a argumentative way so please for the community's sake put a cork in it already. See people like you only understand this sort of speaking because you are negative and walk around with a huge chip on your shoulder all the time. NOW that is PIN POINTING you!

@Jo Please try and get some sort of life... because you have none at this point. I feel sorry for you.Pathetic. I am a person that holds a Psychology Doctorate ...so I am sure I am more qualified then you to assess your state of mind. You suffer from low self-esteem and you have to qualify anything and everything you say before and after making a statement. This is a classic example of inferior complex at it's worse. You have a need to challenge anything a person might say to you or about you. You need to get with a professional and work through some of these issues. I truly think you have more psychological pain then physical. The narcotics are masking something very painful in you. You are in a permanent act of taciturnity and it is sad to read your posts.

@Whocares... Well, I'll be dammed. Look who I found. Thought I'd lost you as it was April 7 I believe the last time you and I commented back and forth. It's midnight and I'm heading off to bed but decided to check email for the first time all day. Have been having severe pain issues and insomnia, not getting to sleep until 4:00 AM or later (last night was at 5:00 AM this morning). Anyway, don't want to get off track but I'm exhausted, I look at my inbox and see an email from this forum telling me "Doctors Who Prescribe Methadone". I click on it, see two or three newer posts, then one from someone familiar (who has to comment on every single (post?) or thereabouts)! Scroll down a bit more and there you are. Our last exchange exactly where we left off. I get a lot of these but lost the link to this thread.

Sorry, but I get inundated with tons of email, mostly junk and am trying to weed it out. Won't bother you with this now as it's late for me, running basically on fumes right now due to lack of sleep, but if you get this between now and tomorrow morning we can figure out how to get out of this particular thread and send IM's or however one can communicate privately with another.

Good to find you Doc! Have been through some tests (lumbar MRI w/wo contrast Friday) and a 'procedure' since and we need to catch up. So chat tomorrow hopefully, k. Damn, it's great to see you here again.

@Pam, I'm not sure when I 1st realized they could do this. I might have overheard patients talking about it at the doctor's office. Not sure. Patients talked a lot at the one doctor I used to go to. Probably cause we had to sit and wait so long to see her. She didn't make real appts. She'd tell U to get there by 10:30, but U waited until your name was called anyway. It wasn't fun at all. Glad in a way that she stopped seeing me. I feel so much better at the place I'm in now.

@Tessa... I know only brief info re your situation but I think gathering 10 YEARS of med history is a bit much. I haven't been on this thread in a while BUT I think you should be very careful and not depend too much on what Jo tells you. She and I have had words and things got a tad nasty with accusations against me, etc. I also had an advocate/friend who turned out to be a PhD therapist that was involved in the discussions as well. And prior to her knowing his occupation, she was butting heads with him as well. I am very intuitive and I get extremely uncomfortable reading Jo's posts at times. Well, most times.

I think she spends most of her day on this forum because she responds to almost EVERY post. She gave extremely horrific, fake empathetic advice to a woman so totally desperate in intractable pain I had to intervene. Please, just be careful. I'm 60 years old myself and desperate to find a new PMDR within 30 days. I'm terrified. You are lucky to have 3 months worth of meds. I have a month's worth.

And @Jo, I can't wrap my head around the fact that you cannot give Tessa at LEAST the name of the hospital you are going to if you live in the same state/vicinity or whatever. This is what these forums are for partly, aside from getting moral support. But people are mostly looking for a doc in their area to help them!! My therapist friend raked you over the coals and had YOU diagnosed within a week with personality disorder and a few others. You ARE writing too much. You are NOT a doctor and you are doing a disservice by making Tessa (as if things weren't bad enough already) try to read your mind and pin the tail on the donkey of the list of hospitals you suggested. Just give her the damn name for God's sake. UNLESS you have something to hide? BTW, Using U for you is the most annoying thing on this thread. This is what teens do and hell I can't figure out their texting 'language'. I really don't care if you keep doing this, but you not being a trained counselor is a key thing here. Personal experience is best AND offering help (in the form of a name of a HOSPITAL) is the best advice you can give Tessa. Your rants don't benefit anyone but whatever agenda you may have, unfortunately you don't even know it. Think about it. And don't EVEN think of posting back anything negative about me. I admit my mistakes and you do not want to mess with me. I have my PhD Dr. friend who has my back and will attest to whatever I said.

Thank GOD "Jo" has finally stopped posting on this particular thread. She has posted more than 1/2 the comments on here, giving false, horrifically dangerous 'advice' that I find truly appalling. I called her on her s*** numerous times. If you read through hers, you'll find MAJOR contradictions in her "story", feels it important to tell everyone she is not an "ADDICT". She has severe emotional problems and from a PhD friend of mine on this forum who turns out to be a psychotherapist, actually said she had a personality disorder, among other things. She's accused (or insinuated) one of my pals, who posted about Methadone and Valium, or benzos in particular, (am paraphrasing here) "that "benzos don't work as well when you are taking them, unless you are selling. Shame on you." I swear on my grandbabies she said this and worse. BTW Jo, should you check back for messages here, I've been on Valium quite a while and when I was taking Methadone, the reason I was taking the Valium for worked just fine, thank you.

I also read a post of yours here where you mentioned something to the effect that you were taking 5mgs of Methadone x2/day. For your neuropathy. If this IS true then you don't know what in the hell you are talking about regarding intractable pain. Prove me otherwise and I'll admit my mistake and apologize.

So, what other forum are you on now? Wreaking havoc upon unsuspecting people who are in desperate need of 'peer' help? Trust me folks, do NOT trust this Jo. If you have time to read up from the beginning, you'll begin to see her insane tactics, need for approval, know it all, and manipulator. RUN for your lives when she's around. Or, just do as a few others have done here, call her on her s***, and see how she wiggles her way out of it.

I guess it is strange, but I have been taking methadone for RSD for 10 years now. Since this big "war on drugs" (even for people who need the damn methadone). I have had to stop using it. The pain is beginning to stop me from my daily activities, like making breakfast, or doing laundry or EVERY OTHER F***ING thing that constitutes living. I haven't had any serious, withdrawal issues. First I cut down to half my daily dose, now I have used up my last prescription. My doctor has now prescribed some Oxy or other. It's half life creates the need to take it more often which I hate.

I also found out that it is not necessarily the DEA causing all the problem. My doc owns a pharmacy, and through speaking with the girls in the office and his PA, I have learned that any pharmacy interested in making a profit will not provide to anyone who doesn't have a one to six ratio which in 'pharmacy' lingo means that if you are not also buying other prescriptions (at least six), the pharmacy will not make a profit from you. It makes no business sense for them to sell to you who is covered by medicare (with whom they have contracted for an agreed upon amount to charge you). Bottom line, their margin of profit is too low. It has less to do with the DEA, than their own pockets. They are telling people they can't get the drug, but the fact is, if you have the money to pay for it, they have it. A covered patient pays between $1.50 - $13 per script, but if you have no insurance, they make upwards of $200.00 per script. Some of the pharmacists will tell you the truth. Three have explained this to me already. It's more the 'mom and pop' stores. The big houses ie. CVS, Walgreen etc.. just don't want the hassle. It all comes down to $$$$$, as usual. I know this information is useless, I am just trying to figure out how to create a solution.

FYI... received an email a week or so ago, (a couple actually) dated September 10 wherein the FDA is clamping down to reduce the numbers of people and/or addicts from obtaining high doses of narcotic medications. The title of the article is "Medscape Medical News
FDA Restricts Long-term Opioid Use to Combat Abuse (here's part of the text and the link on Medscape):

Medscape.com/viewarticle/810732?src=wnl_edit_tpal&uac=206996CJ

"Extended-release and long-acting (ER/LA) opioid pain relievers are no longer indicated for merely moderate pain, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced today as part of a sweeping move to stem the deadly misuse and abuse of the drugs."

"Previously, the labels for ER/LA opioid analgesics stated that they were indicated for "moderate to severe pain in patients requiring continuous, around-the-clock opioid treatment for an extended period of time." The labels now will state that the drugs are indicated "for the management of pain severe enough to require daily, around-the-clock opioid treatment and for which alternative treatments are inadequate." The new labeling emphasizes first considering potentially less addictive measures."

And people in need, need to know the FACTS, so unless one has them one should either refrain from posting or refer people to a professional. If people give information that is false, they need to be called out on it. These are serious topics we're discussing where if someone just goes off and "talks out if their butt" they could put someone in real danger, not to mention stigmatizing doctors who are out there helping people as greedy drug dealers who only take cash. I'm not here to bash anyone, but if I know someone to be completely incorrect on a subject they try to pretend they are an authority on then I will say something every time.

Wrong. I have been on methadone and Xanax for over 15 years now prescribed by two different pain docs. After the first one retired the second took over my care and I get methadone and Xanax. No problems.

I have been taking methadone for a few years for pain only. I tried suboxone and it mad me very sick plus it did nothing for my pain. I went one month for my reg Dr's appt and I was in so much pain I was crying and that's when he stopped the suboxone and started me on hydrocodone. Well pain meds helped my pain, but I felt stoned all the time and once again I never once cheated and/or abused my meds, so the next month I walked in his office and to my wonderful surprise he wrote me a script for methadone. I almost passed out I was so happy bc i knew my whole life was about to change and it has for the better. I take maybe two every four hours and I wish just once I mean once if a doctor would try the two pain pills like lortab which does help my pain, but not my mental state which at that point the anxiety worked great with methadone and also changed my DEEP dark place I used to be in, but my depression was a bit better. Not gone but lighter, so there's the difference. It's so unbelievable these Dr's won't ever understand unless they try it. I have read on the internet that your primary physician can order methadone for pain; a certain amount for pain only and God only knows how great that is. And I also think we have to have evaluations done at least to show our pain is real. So if there's any doctors in my Albany area that will take me as a patient for methadone please help me. I can't go backwards with all my pain cause nothing in this world takes all my dam pain away except penathol lol, seriously.

Even methadone docs don't want you on benzos, and no doc will prescribe methadone anymore you have to actually go to a methadone clinic

I've been addicted to methadone for probably 10 years. I was addicted to opioids for five years and literally I have been taking pain medication from the time I was four years old on. By the time I was four I was addicted to Percocet. I had multiple surgeries done on my ears two or three times a year, so I really had enough pills to supply my addiction. I didn't even know what the hell I was doing at that age. Basically my whole addiction started due to OxyContin. Nobody had a clue what it was at the time. I just do not want to embarrass my family. I've never been arrested for drugs because I'm not an ***** and I know how to hide things and most importantly I need to find a Doctor who is willing to write me methadone preferably 10 mg tablets so I could take them five times a day throughout the day. I've been detoxing for a while but it's starting to catch up with me. I just don't want to have the same issue I had last time when I nearly escaped going to prison. The police officer tried to build a fake case on me basically because he knew that I was a drug addict and quite frankly I think he was jealous of the girl and the money and everything hanging off my arms. {edited for privacy}.
