I am addicted to strong pain meds and I am tired of having to come off of them, the withdrawal is awful. I went to a urgent care doc and was prescribed suboxone. I take anxiety meds too but he wants me to stop. I really need the anxiety meds but he wants me off them. How do I get him to change it from suboxone to methadone so I can take my anxiety meds?

What state & city do u live that any urgent care doctor writes a script for methadone & oxycodon never herd of it. I've looked for a doc in hopes of finding him but no luck & the older I get the pain gets tough to bear. I hate alcohol but a gal of whiskey is all I have &it doesn't touch my pain. I'm on ssi & am 62yrs old I give anything to find a doctor to write for methadone pills to b in comfort for rest of my yrs so please where is it that u have no problems?

Ok you need to know a few things.

1. Do you have health insurance (this will help otherwise it is ~ $30K for privatized)

2. If you go into any drug treatment program private or otherwise it is marked by your name by the DEA so if you try to get meds after getting out - relapse is part of getting better, it may be very difficult for you to obtain meds through the proper channels. Since I don't know what your drug of choice is, I can't comment any further but the DEA has their hands in everything - Dr.'s office, Pharmacy, ER, Hospital, etc... so keep that in mind.

3. If you are able to come off of the meds on your own, I know that is asking a lot, and it isn't easy by any means. I suggest this because if you are able to do this, this gives you much needed self esteem and proves to yourself that you can do this. If you can't - and most people do need help it is nothing to be ashamed of quite the opposite.

4. If you choose to do it on your own, cut your meds in half and quarters. Use the halves for like 4 days and then use the quarters for 4 days. Make sure you have plenty of Immodium AD you will need it. You may need to take 4 or 6 if the diarrhea is really bad. It will take ~ 4 days to detox after the quarters but it won't be nearly as bad. If you get the urge or tempted, remember how sick you are and you don't want to go through that again and remember what made you want to get to this point.

5. You are strong and which ever way you go you need to call Narcotics Anonymous. They have an 1-800 number, they have something online. Just call them if you think you are going to use or if you think you are going crazy, it doesn't matter - just call. In the privatized hospitals you would go to Narcotics Anonymous/Alcoholics Anonymous all day and the topic is "Recovery" "Recovery" and "Recovery".

If you take xanax for anxiety.. And you are trying to get on methadone they won't do it .due to the fact that mixing both of those is extremely dangerous a lot of people have died from doing that.. And I know because I take methadone an I was in xanax but I can not get it now.

I've lost my dr because they closed and now I can't find a dr that will put me back on methadone and I've been in a wheel chair for 18 years because I broke my back. If anyone knows a dr please let me know {edited for privacy}.

One word of advice...you can get methadone easier if you are a VET and you can use the VA hospital. They give it to treat pain and the VA are use to heavy doses of pain meds. they will work with you to get the right drugs to take to treat your illness. That is the best you can do is go to a VA hosp if you can. no one should live in pain.

I have been on methadone for 6 years for pain . I went to clinic due to not able to find Dr to prescribe it bad idea I need to find Dr who will prescribe it. If anyone could help I would deeply appreciate. I live in PA Mercer county there are docters but try get names no one will give name of there Dr.really pisses me off thanks PA girl

Aren't you judgmental!!! Who are you to decide who is manipulative and who isn't. First you don't infer tone from a written message BECAUSE IT DOESN'T HAVE A VOICE. Second, you don't know what this person is going through, and pain is relative - meaning no two people feel pain the same way.

You are judgmental and by the way you write, if I were to act like you I would say you are ignorant, luckily I am not you!

You are supposed to tell them you are there because you are an addict you say regarding methadone clinics. The doctor who put me on methadone in 2006-07 , not sure exactly, he got his license stripped because he was overprescribing and many more laws he broke. He basically got me hooked on these pills so I just told the clinic that and what I was on which was 200 mg. per day, which is also far too much. Nobody should be on more than 120 mg./day because it's ineffective to take more than that. Many methadone clinics realize that people are on it for pain also. The p.a. at my clinic sent me back to pain mgmt. to get it from them instead but there are no drs. In Phoenix left willing to write for methadone apparently there is a huge stigma attached to methadone because of overdoses, etc. I told that p.a. at the clinic I'd just be coming back because I wouldn't find a dr. to write a script for me and I did end up back at the clinic again. I just suggest if you are that bad that you just go to the clinic!
