I am currently taking 1mg xanax and am wondering if I could get it increased to 2mg

Columbus Ohio here. I need help I wish my Dr would just leave me on my medicine but she's cutting me completely off after this month. I've been on Xanax since 1993 and only time I was off it I had 2 severe seizures I've had 2 strokes but the new Dr doesn't believe in prescribing Benzos so I don't know what to do. I'm raising 3 grandsons 2 are babies. I just feel I'm on a cliff with no help and she don't care. I have severe PTSD from rape. And beatings since 15. I just want to feel normal and this is only med that's ever helped. Please help if anyone knows a Dr who will help me.

Diamond how long have you been taking this dose? it s really unlikely, and not good for you to increase unless you were traumatized, or were having increased anxiety for example: not coping with a death well ,loss of marriage, worsening nightmares about or from traumatic things from childhood abuse....things like that are at root cause of anxiety...docs are not givin out Xanax like they once did(DEA)..If you think the dose you are taking could be increased/changed for more relief from attacks....My (new) psychiatrist suggested I take my .5 at the same time everyday, and I did just that and it helped. I am allowed to take up to 4, .05mgs of Xanax a day , a total of 2mgs per day. If doc might increase(and I hear horror stories of ppl asking for an increase of controlled sustances,norco, Percocet etc, doc gets mad and cuts their dose in half) I myself wouldn t ask or need to increase my dose unless I felt my anxiety worsened,or some traumatizing eventwould cause me to need to increase. I remember when my 1st increase was from.25 to.5 then .5 twice a day,then went to doc and told him about what my husband was doing(I started hyperventilating) he increased at tht visit, but that was 8 yrs, ago Im onlytaking 1.5 -2 mgs of Xanax....Hope it helps some....and sometimes some Xanax is better than none, so sometimes ive had to suck it up and make do with what I have..

Hi Diamond,

In my opinion, it would safer to gradually work your way up to 2mg instead of. Why do you want to up the dosage so much? Have you considered any natural alternatives?
