Hi there;

I am not from Pennsylvania but I can relate to what you are going through 100%. It also has taken me 10 years to get a combination that would work for my pain. The sad part is that I see more people asking questions on this website then I do people who actually have answers. I am from North Carolina and this is one of the most stringent states around when it comes to prescribing pain medication. Until a month or so ago, I found a doctor who had the balls to prescribe medication that actually worked for my pain which is Dilaudid 4 milligram up to 8 tablets a day if needed. I was also prescribe Tramadol up to 8 tablets a day if needed for breakthrough pain although Tramadol is only a not better than Tylenol and makes me nauseous. I have found it to be impossible to find a doctor that is willing to prescribe 30 milligram Oxycodone that Dilaudid is just as good if not better. I was taking Oxycodone 15 milligram when I started seeing this particular doctor 2 years ago who I now have resentment towards because of the way he just comes up out of the blue want to pull me off of my anxiety medicine without warning although that medicine has been prescribed to me by another doctor. The Oxy 15 milligram had gotten to where it was not working for me when I first started seeing this doctor as it was for tablets a day as needed so I did mention 30 milligram to him causing him to fly off the handle as I made sure not to mention that again to him. You would think that I was asking him to prescribe medicinal marijuana judging from his reaction. I was just simply letting him know that I developed a tolerance so I was open to suggestions but I simply asked his perspective and he let me know that would NEVER they prescribed in his office! I went on Dilaudid then and it has worked for me for two years. I had to push the issue of trying something new because he was going to keep me on the 15 milligram even though I told him it was not working as well. I noticed his temper at that time because he really seem to have a problem with 30 milligram but I did not push that issue but I did want something that would work for me and was glad that he finally was willing to try the Dilaudid which work but now I am in a terrible position just as you are with me finding a new doctor willing to prescribe something that works. I have been taking Klonopin for the entire 2 years that I've been seeing this doctor and he was well aware of it although he was not crazy about the idea but not once did he tell me to stop taking it. He prescribed me the 4 milligram are Dilaudid the whole 2 years and I was on Klonopin from another doctor the entire 2 years so he was aware of the anxiety medication while he was prescribing the same strength of Dilaudid the whole time as well. I was hoping this would have been my last stop on pain doctors because I'm frankly quite sick of the games that these doctors play when it comes to pain management. My last visit to him did not turn out well because the first thing he tells me is that he wants me to go off of the Klonopin and for it not to come up in the drug panel on my next visit which he saw me every 3 months. Seeing the doctor every 3 months was another plus and now I am back on the same journey because of this doctor just coming up out of the blue want me to go off of Klonopin which was prescribed by another doctor. I wasn't shocked because I did not know why this doctor did not say something a year ago if he had that much of a problem with it instead of just coming up expected me to go off of an anxiety medicine that I have been on for 7 years. This doctor did not spend too much time talking to me as a patient or any other patients from what I have found out through his reviews. I did not even get a chance to respond when he told me to go off of the Klonopin and I usually did not care if he gave me a chance to talk because the prescriptions were basically ready every time I went but I was very upset when I left this last doctors appointment. He was asking me to choose between staying on anxiety medicine or having my pain medicine reduced or I was given another option of finding another pain doctor who would give me the pain medicine that worked plus being able to stay on anxiety medicine as well. He did not even give me a chance to try to go off of the Klonopin because I was given a discharge letter in the mail 2 weeks after that appointment. I have a little over a month worth of pain medicine butt right now I'm in a very terrible position because I cannot just go off of Dilaudid after being on it for 2 years and I have to get something for my pain that actually works. It is like finding a needle in a haystack when it comes to trying to find a doctor that understands pain plus is willing to prescribe what actually works for you as a patient. Most of the doctors these days are running Scared from the DEA and it is causing many problems with patients who suffer from chronic pain. Most doctors today in pain management do not know the first thing about what it is like to deal with chronic pain on a daily basis and could care less. I'm curious to know if you ever found anyone to help you with your pain? You sound like me when you make the comment that you are willing to travel just to find comfort and relief from pain. If you are willing to travel then please let me know what you find out there as far as exceptional pain doctors. I could sure use some help down in my neck of the woods of North Carolina??. Good luck to you and please pass on any names that you can find in this state or any other state close by to either one of us. Anyone out there that knows of a good pain doctor near North Carolina then please pass it on. My pain is mostly in my back due to a bulging disc and moderate arthritis plus I am dealing with TMJ. Thank you for any input that you can have towards resolving this issue. We have to stick together as paying patients because the doctors refuse to understand until it happens to them. Keep in touch and have a great day!??

My doctor wants to put me on OxyContin 80 instead of my 2 tabs 4 times a day of oxycodone. I want no parts of OxyContin. I don't abuse or sell my meds and take as directed. The nurse got mad I think because I called Tuesday to give her plenty of time. I know she's busy and they are closed on Saturday, pharmacy closed on Sunday. And it's none of her business that I'm going away for a few days, now I can't. They refused oxycodone. I had to take my script for the time being gives me a non aplicable script. So mad they want to shove s*** down my throat I don't want any part of. Need a new doctor.

Is there any way to directly give you her name? I don't really want to put it out on the open chat. I have no problem individually giving her name to people though.

To everyone reading this thread relating to; "Drs in PA that prescribe oxycodone",those that are searching for a pain specialist to specifically prescribe medication. I just found a website called propublica.org. The propublica site holds a wealth of info regarding pain specialists in every state in this great USA. There's a search bar on the site. Type in your city and state, click the mag glass symbol & you'll have a last of drs way too long to list here. It tells you the drs specialty and the percentage of narcotics the dr prescribes. Percentage as far as out of 100% of the meds they prescribe how many were controlled substances aka narcotics. I just read a Dr's background who prescribes 85% narcotics which was unusual. Most pain specialists, in my area anyway showed 45-59%. You can click on the drs name and find their demographic info as well.

P.S. To everyone searching for pain management on this thread, at this point I personally do not have any dr I can recommend. If your family doc or whatever doc will make a referral for you will refer you to a local hospital's pain clinic, it's Prob your best option. That or a single dr in his/her own practice. I wish I had more to offer you guys. Your family physician or primary care can be your best asset right now. Keep them informed of your status so they can keep you in mind when they meet or find out about a pain dr in the area.

I'm sorry about that. I understand. Just not myself. I'm a compliant patient, always submitted clean drug panels, only call the doctor early like on a Tuesday or Thursday to ask to pick up a RX because Wednesday and Friday they close early and Pharmacy is closed on Sunday. So I would pick up RX from Doctor, drop off at pharmacy, pick up on Saturday if it was due Sunday, only if It was time. I don't know. OxyContin 80 does not agree with me; lots of negative side effects. Insurance called yesterday and said they won't pay for it and want me on hydromorphone, or oxymorphone (Opana) no thanks. And the other I had been on years ago also gave me very bad migraines.

Good Luck Nancy, Did you find anyone in Philadelphia . I am not liking this OxyContin and my insurance will not pay and the other meds are just as bad. I hate the 90 percent of people who make it hard for those that are severely disabled. If you find one in Philly let me know.
God Bless You,
Lisa

Hi No, are you saying your Dr discharged you because you continued taking prescribed Klonopin? How about having your shrink or family doc or whomever it is prescribing your Klonopin writing a letter to your pain specialist explaining the medical diagnosis/ reason for the Klonopin script in the first place? It seems unreasonable for a dr you've been a patient of for years suddenly demand you stop taking a prescribed medicationhe's known about since day one.

Keikee. The VA dr did that to my husband as well. Was taking Klonopin for 3 yrs n when the pain medicine bs came down they stopped his Vicodin ( which he takes for an injury he suffered in a terrorist attack in Germany) n his Klonopin n his Ambien. Just like that. I couldn't believe it. So he had to find a regular famy doctor who was sympathetic n able to give him his regular meds that he had been on for years.
