Doctor Willing To Prescribe And Help With Pain In Minnesota (Top voted first)
UpdatedNeed help finding a doctor that will prescribe in Minnesota. I have been dealing with chronic back pain for many years. Ruptures my L5-S1 disk and it keeps getting worse. In the past, I have been on Vicodin, percocet, etc, and my quality of life was much better. But that doctor left. Over time, pain came back more and more, exercise decreased due to pain, quality of life is low. Tired of dealing with Chiropractors and such, and docs that only say stuff like "try Advil". Need something to help with the pain, so I can exercise and get some quality of life back. I live in the Twin Cities. If anyone has any recommendations, please let me know!

Central medical clinic in St Paul. They've always been fairly good about giving me narcotics. I don't abuse them, though.
Vernon, thx on the congrats. I have decided to go back to my PCP and have him set up appointments w 2 different pain specialist since it take a while to get in. Call it an interview of sorts. I want someone who will prescribe when needed but most importantly help me get my life back. I'm a nurse & haven't been able to work in 6 years & I so miss it!
I understand the overprescribing......but in my experience, it was the doctor trying to help the patient. I know there are addicts, etc who get them for the wrong reason, but it is the DEA cracking down and they & insurance companies are telling docs how they can & cannot treat. It's REDICULOUS as these people have no medical training. There has to be a happy medium somewhere!
Alot of pain clinics are being shut down right now.. big BIG crack down started in Florida and headed to MN.. have u tried clinics like MAPS, and Ispine?
I am in the same boat but I am post SI joint fusion, fibromyalgia which most docs don't believe in yet a med was created for that.....go figure! DEA is cracking down everywhere and unfortunately we suffer. I don't care if its a narc or not, I just need to find a combo that works.....OTC's do nothing! I have no quality of life & at 45 I should have. I did when I had meds, but no more! It puts a strain on my marriage ( married 23 years next month). What can we do? I have searched the net high & wide!
I am very sorry that you are both suffering, that's so awful.
As to finding a doctor, it is most likely that due to the new regulations and crackdowns, you'll need to see pain management specialists to get the help you need.
Due to improper prescribing and over prescribing concerns, it has been made more difficult for general practitioners and surgeons to prescribe medications for long-term chronic pain treatment.
Have either of you consulted with pain management doctors, yet?
And Tracy, congrats on the 23 years!
Timpup, I am so sorry and I can sure empathize! My L4 was bulging to the right ( started 12 years ago from a patient hurting me) and also damaged my Rt SI joint.....I waited 7 years for surgery as the docs I saw never sent me to the right doc......my daughter did by doing an Internet search of my symptoms. I am better after surgery but the pain can still become excruciating, lasting weeks or months. I don't take anything but Tylenol & ibuprofen and they don't work at all......add to that for the past six weeks I have had 24/7 cramping, a feeling of shredding and squeezing of the muscles in both legs. I am so desperate for someone to listen & help I have resorted to forums! Hun, I really feel for you & wish I could help. There is a place called Pain Relief Centers in Brooklyn Park, W. St. Paul and one other place in the cities. Not sure where you are located. Look them up on the net or phone book. According to the website, they seem real caring.
Timpup, try The Pain Relief Centers. You can google them for their phone number and find the one on either Robert St in St. Paul or on Lake St Mpls.
hey tracy can you call me i have some specific question about the Pain Relief Centers Gregory @ {edited for privacy}
I'm sorry about your pain as well. I think we are all going to find a way to address the issue of pain. The medications work, but can also build up in your body and be harmful. The doctors can't give you meds knowing it may hurt you. I am in a lot of pain due to a severely damaged liver, but for some reason I can handle it. I do all kinds of things from meditation to stretching, and especially swimming. I think doctors know that people are suffering, but have to stick by legal (now worse) restrictions. All you who are in pain, are in my prayers.
Hi I am looking for a pain dr in the twin cities area in Minnesota that will prescribe pain medication, as my primary Dr said laws are pushing down hard & he's not going to be able to write them for my anymore. I went to MAPS what a joke, all they want to do is give you injections, & not any kind of pain medication. I was completely disgusted with the way they treated me, i'm giving any advice of anybody in the Twin City areas of Minnesota is looking for a clinic do not go there!!! They're not compassionate at all and they will not help you!!! So I'm asking if anybody goes to a pain clinic now or a pain management, or knows someone that does, that does use pain prescriptions please let me know thank you have a great day.

But then now I need to find a pain clinic pain management doctor that is willing to prescribe for me as I said maybe my primary doctor is the best but he said they're cracking down and that primary doctors are not supposed to write for pain medicine anymore right now I am just taking Percocet and tizadine a muscle relaxer
Mom in Pain. I moved to Eagan in May 2014 and have been taking MS-Contin for 12 years. When a primary care doctor tells you that they can no longer prescribe opiate medications for chronic pain( that is well documented) it is complete crap. Some Doctors may feel because the DEA is keeping a closer eye on opiate prescriptions (which usually require more paperwork for the doctor) they do not want to bother. Also some doctors who work for a corporate clinic may have changed their rules and policies limiting there doctors on how and what they prescribe medications for chronic pain. However, There is no law or has the DEA taken away the ability of a MD from prescribing opiate medications to patients who need them by common medical standard. Almost every state has prescription monitoring programs that make it almost impossible to doctor shop and get away with it anymore. For myself when I went to see a family doctor in Eagan I had brought my medical records from my doctor in FL along with my MRI. After she did a exam and looked over my records she gave me my prescriptions with the same opiate medication that I have been on for years. As far as long time use of opiate medication causing liver problems opiate that do not have any Tylenol usually do not cause liver problems. However long term use of Tylenol does cause liver failure. A lot of doctor are prescribing Ultram because it is not a opiate but can still be addictive. However I saw a pain specialist who refuses to prescribe it because the possibility of seizures and several of his patient went into kidney failure.
If someone actually gave you a name, the doctor would most certainly be subjected to immediate scrutiny by the DEA and FDA.
BTW. I used Medical Marijana, the Indica variety with great success following a double mastectomy followed by tissue expander surgery then implants without painkillers!!
I need to find a doctor that believes in pain meds. I had multiple major surgery's 2x back & once neck lots of hardware in body's and always in pain. Last meds was methadone. Just moved from Hawaii to Eagan, Mn Any suggestions where or what Doctor may help. One that believes in pain meds. Thank you
I'm a 37 yr old female. Spinal stenosis found in 2015, had 6 inj's. (no relief), PT 3x wk, not any relief but a massage. I had same day decompression surgery on L4 & L5 in Feb 2016. Past 4 months (11/2016 to now), pain is intolerable all day everyday. Had 2 MRI's done Dec 2016, Feb 2017. They say nothing. I am constantly twisting, bending, stretching, hanging, anything for my back to "unlock". I can't stand straight. I can't hold my head up. At least 1x a month I shake involuntary then nod off for about 1-3 seconds (happened in front of my chiropractor). I can't stand it anymore! Feels like bone on bone, or an ice tray that you try to separate the frozen cubes. No relief. Tried many meds but only found that morphine and oxy work best. I'm very busy and active all day everyday. And those two meds left me pain free without disturbing my daily life. I live in MN and can not find a good Dr that listens, is persistent, not scared to try opiates. Please help. Thank you.
I am 63 years old, and I live with several different chronic pain issues. I was able to get Plan for me in 2007, after years of referring me to PT, steroid shots, lidocaine patches, Biofeedback, and several different meds, but nothing worked as well as Codeine for the pain.
I started to see another doctor at HP, and he made it clear that he didn't think that narcotics should be prescribed for anything. After seeing this doctor for about two months, he refused to continue to prescribe Codeine for me, and made a note in my chart that I was Codeine Dependent. He never said anything to me about being Codeine Dependent, which violates his duty to disclose any diagnosis with a patient. I found the diagnosis when I got a copy of my records. I asked him repeatedly about what he based his diagnosis that I am Codeine Dependent and all he said was "I have tried told you many times about how I came up with the diagnosis that you are Codeine Dependent, and I can't be any clearer. Basically he refused to tell me how he made the diagnosis.
He told me that Codeine wasn't working for me. I have no idea where that came from. I'm convinced that he made the diagnosis that I was Codeine dependent to ensure that other doctors who looked at my records, would see the diagnosis that I am dependent, and refuse to prescribe narcotics. I have seen 3 different doctors over the last year and a half, and not one thought that I was Codeine Dependent. If you use the logic that the DEA has about vilafying (sp) narcotics to protect us from ourselves, that we should see a more modern form of Proabition, because alcohol damages many people's lives, or take cars off of the road because so many people die in car accidents. I think that if you thought about it there are many other things in life that can hurt and kill people, so do we just get rid of anything that might or kill people. It's nonsense. I am really tired of having medical professionals treat me like I am a drug seeking individual, and suggest that I try Ibuprofin as if it is the holy grail. My chronic pain is having a negative impact on my depression. I may be 63 years old, but I'm not ready to be put out to pasture.
I am experiencing the same problem.
My spine was reconstructed and I'm fused from L2 to into my sacrum.
I desperately need to build strength- my muscles need to be able to hold up my skeletal system! Especially where my spine and sacrum are fused!
I have physical therapy 2x a week but I still don't have the ability to be functional because my pain levels are so intense and so high preventing me from making necessary progress in my healing and recovery.
I can't get past this pain barrier!
I have endured painful, invasive procedures like cryotherapy, steroid injections, trigger points, caudal, and none of that has any positive affect.
I need to find a physician in Minnesota who treats severe chronic pain short term to help me get past this horrible pain, and build the strength I need that would decrease my pain, eliminating the need for pain medication management altogether!
I developed myofascial pain disorder three years ago in my thighs and around my hip joints. I've had about a dozen injections in my legs and four in my back. I've had two hip surgeries too. I get rebound headaches on Tylenol and NSAIDs so my doctor gave me a prescription for Ultram as needed. I use about 30 low dose tablets in 3 months. My PCP left and I got a new one. I didn't care for her. I got a different one. Don't like her either. Neither of them will renew my Ultram. I've been tried on Cymbalta and Lyrica (controlled substance) without success due to headaches and muscle pain (now I have medial epicondyltitis too). I am in pain and can't take anything. I get about 5 hours of sleep a night and my mood is horribly dark. Then my doctor wonders why I'm snappy with her. I doctor at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. They have cracked down on giving out prescriptions. I'm also a nurse and am on my feet all day. You may imagine how much my condition affects my work. I am ready to start organizing a class action lawsuit against the government for restricting and regulating prescriptions!!! This is the reason there is abuse. Doctors aren't willing to manage painful patients.
