Disappearance Of 12mg Chlor-trimeton.... Again (Page 3)

Updated

Question! Where can I find Chlor-Trimeton 12hr 12mg allergy pills? (near San Diego, CA) It seems that whenever a new allergy medicine comes on the market (Claritin, Zyrtec), CT disappears for a year or so. Available in Canada as Chlor-Tripolon but only for a short while as everyone in the US starts buying it on-line when CT disappears. This time, I haven't noticed any new product roll-out. Question 2- WHY does it disappear? I've been taking it regularly for over 50 years and only recently (last few years) has it been doing this disappearing act.

I have been getting the store brand version at CVS in Carlsbad,Ca. It is available most of the time, although they are out occasionally.

Really too bad! I have been using this medication for many years, and it is pretty much the only one that works so well for me without making me too drowsy. Store brands do nothing for me. I am going to be very miserable for a while! I really wish they could bring this product back!!!!

I JUST bought the 4 mg. Chlorpheniramine Maleate at Costco. They do not carry the 12 hr. version. I also just found that Amazon now carries the Chlorphen-12 brand, 12 mg... I had previously purchased Chlorphen-12 from another vendor thru Amazon. I agree that it works better than most others.

When your bronchitis gets bad enough, you should request a steroid pack from your Dr., which will help to knock out the bronchitis very quickly.

I just bought Chlorphen-12 online and it works just as well as Chlortrimeton 12mg used to. I went on the manufacturers website and found a coupon. Free shipping too! [chlorphen12.com/coupon]

I still purchase the 4mg at Walmart. It has not been discontinued.

Yeah? Well the whole point is that I want to buy what I like, and not what Corporate America dictates that I should buy!

Same I've used Chlortrimeton for years and years like 30 years or more and not it's just gone. None of the other allergy meds work as well for me... Not even Benedryl. They should bring it back to the shelves.

What Walmart do you go to? It's not available in my Walmart. Maybe it's just the state who knows.

Chlor-Trimeton had recall problems. I don't trust it. But I need a solution for my horrible allergies to pollen. I use Chlorphen-12 now. I checked with my pharmacist and he told me that it is the FDA therapeutic equivalent to Chlor-Trimeton. He told me to just think that Chlor-Trimeton is now Chlorphen-12. I just order it on Amazon...works like a charm.

Did it work for you? I used chlortrimeton 12 hr for almost 40 years and nothing else works for me. Trying to find some now.

In the news, I read that there is a link between "old school" antihistamines and Alzheimer's. Clortrimeton is considered an "old school" antihistamine. Thus, I limit my usage of the product now, but I still take it (4 mg sold at Walmart).

My doctor has recommended that I switch to the "new school" antihistamines such as Claritin, Zyrtec, Allegra. I have not had good success with these drugs.

My Walmart in GA doesn't carry it as well. I had been using 4 mg Chlortrimeton for years and so have my grown kids. Yes, I ordered from Amazon

Re: Madelyn (# 52) Expand Referenced Message

I'm guessing it was the other drug companies who spread that rumor! Chlor Trimeton was the best. No side effects. My father was a pharmacist for fifty years....would have known.

yes, it is now discontinued at all Walmart stores. I, too, had to go to Amazon. I have also used it for at least 40 years.

Re: Lori (# 4) Expand Referenced Message

Chlorpheniramine Maleate is not even close to Chlortrimetron in helping me, and I would not recommend it to anyone as a substitute for Chlortriemetron. Maybe this is someone's marketing idea.

Chlor-Trimeton 12 hour dosage of 12 mg, also known as Chlorphen-12, Chlorpheniramine Maleate Extended Release 12 mg, 60 tablets... It has also been difficult to get in New York for the last few months and it has also happened a few years ago. I am 57 years old and have been taking this for many years but regularly for the last 9 years after getting vertigo. It helped me quite a bit during the 1-1/2 years I suffered and I'm suffering from vertigo once again for the last 3 months. I just placed a few orders on Amazon for the 12 hour generic pills -- I usually get it auto-shipped but they have been out of stock. I hope the manufacturer, Bayer, does not discontinue it. On Ebay, prices are about double of those on Amazon. I will try and keep this website posted if I find out anything more. Please do the same -- post any updates. There are very few antihistamines that work and don't make you sleepy...AND come in a 4 or 12 hour dosage.

Re: Lori (# 4) Expand Referenced Message

It might be available as Chlorphen-12, but at outrageously expensive prices! I will continue to use the 4 hour variety, which I can buy for $3 for 100 pills. SHAME on the makers of Chlorphen-12!!!

I've been buying Chlorphen-12 from Amazon and it is still available, but the price has gone up $14.00 since December and is now $49.99 for 120 pills. It's also available on eBay, but the price is even higher. I'm wondering if the supply is just getting scarce or if it is about to be discontinued. I agree with many others that none of the newer allergy pills - zyrtec, allegra, claritin, xyzal - control my cough at all. Only chlorpheniramine does the trick. {affiliate link added}

Re: Lori (# 4) Expand Referenced Message

Thank you so much for your info.. I was told today my pharmacy could no longer get Chlorphen 12 & it was off the market. Had to settle with Loratadine. Was not happy because I use Chlorphen 12 for some good sleep as I don't sleep well at times.
