Can diphenhydramine 50mg be used for cold and cough?

Hello, Stephanie! How are you?

It is an antihistamine, so it may help a little, but it will not do anything to eradicate the cold itself, that just has to run its course.

The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, drowsiness and dry mouth.

They also have a version specifically to help with cold symptoms that contains additional ingredients.

Are you on any other medications?
