Diltiazem Isn't Supposed To Cause Sexual Dysfunction, But ...

I was put on Metoprolol last year for sinus tach, but after a couple of months on the medicine I began to experience sexual dysfunction. I was then put on a lower dose, but while the sexual dysfunction improved it did not control my sinus tach at all. I was then put on Diltiazem 180 mg. The heart rate lowered and things were great for a week or so but then the sexual dysfunction returned. My doctor lowered the dose to 120mg, the sinus tach is still improved but the sexual dysfunction is still here. My wife has mentioned that it is bothering her.

I'm going to see my doctor on Monday. I feel I have three options. 1. Keep things as they are and hope the SD gets better, 2. Try a different medicine or 3. ask the doc to allow me to stop taking a med for sinus tachycardia. Apparently my symptoms weren't as bad as some people's and I have been exercising. I just worry that once the Diltiazem is gone it will be like I'm taking two or three steps back in my fitness/endurance. Any ideas?

Actually, impotence is listed as a common side effect of Diltiazem, while other intimate difficulties are listed as being side effects that are a bit less common, according to FDA reports. Other side effects may include nausea, headache, hypotension, and frequent urination.

However, there are many other medications that you can try, to see if you can find one that works for you, without causing such unpleasant issues. Only your doctor can judge if stopping medication, altogether, will be safe for you.

When I first had congestive heart failure, it took about a year, before we found medications I could take that worked for me, and didn't make me miserable.

Are you on any other medications?
