Diltiazem And Coughing?

Is a dry cough one of the side effects of Diltiazem? I developed a cough on Lisinapril after a couple years, so my Dr. switched me to Diltiazem 180 mg. extended release, about a year ago. I have recently developed a dry cough, and am short of breath, especially when I lie down at night. So I prop myself up with pillows to sleep. I also cough when I try to talk too much. I've tried using my asthma inhaler, but it doesn't help.

Hello, Grandma of 4! How are you doing? I'm very sorry about the problem that you're having.

However, please consult your doctor as soon as possible. That problem breathing, when you lay down at night that requires you to prop yourself up with pillows could be a sign of congestive heart failure, so your doctor needs to check this out immediately.

It's not worth the risk to just wait and see what happens.
