Dilemma With 2 Narcotic Scripts From 2 Doctors (Page 7)

Updated

Hi all. I have intractable pelvic RSD, peripheral neuropathy, lumbar facet spondylosis. I live in California and am about to have to change insurances at the end of this month. The new insurance has ridiculously high Rx prices. I go to a PM for all my pain meds, but my primary dr has in the past managed them for me. My question is if anyone knows if I get an Rx for the 60mg Oxycontin twice a day like usual from my PM and then my primary to write a script for 40mg 3 times a day and then I can go to 2 totally different pharmacies and fill one with my insurance and the other at another pharmacy and pay with cash, will that flag the DEA and cause my PM to get a notification of "Doctor shopping"? I am just trying to have enough meds to get me through an extra month until my husbands new job let's us get medical coverage?

I had to do this one other time a year ago when the same thing happened with me loosing my job because I could no longer work and I wasn't married yet to get my husbands insurance. The first 2 months I had no problem, but the third and LAST month I was needing to do it to get me enough meds to last me the 3 month waiting period, my husband forgot and filled both scripts under the same insurance but just at 2 different pharmacies instead of paying cash at the second one. My pain doctor found this out and thank God I was able to explain my way out of it and he didn't discharge me as a patient, but now in this situation again, I'm afraid to try it one last time til we are settled with yet another health insurance. I would really appreciate anyone's advise or experience they could share regarding my situation. I truly am not a doctor shopper, I am just afraid to run out of meds and be in massive pain and / or risk getting into trouble.

I was getting pain meds from 2 different Doctors and they found out! I wouldn't risk it unless you want to risk losing both Dr's!!

I have lupus, fibro and a failed back surgery. I just moved from Indiana to Phoenix 4 weeks ago, and getting my meds has been pure HELL. I got hooked up with a PM clinic that seems to be good, but the pharmacies are just INSANE. I brought all of my medical and pharmacy records with me to give all the new docs I have to get a complete profile of my condition.

The second day after we hit Phoenix I went to the PM for my initial visit and left with a script for 150 15mg oxy IR's. On the way home we stopped to fill the script and the pharmacist said they couldn't fill it because they had "met their DEA limit" and couldn't take on any new controlled patients. I'd never heard of such BS in Bloomington where I'm from. And in Bloomington I was getting 30mg oxy IR and MS Contin for years with no problems except sometimes they wouldn't have enough and I'd have to go to another place, but it was never a hassle like it is here. Then to make matters worse, they said they couldn't call other stores of the same brand for me to see if they could fill it. So I had to go to another pharmacy and they said they wouldn't fill the script of IR's without also having a script for time released OC's, and even then they would only fill for 120 of the IR's, not the 150 it was written for. They too said that they couldn't call around to see if one of their other stores could fill it. So then we tried another pharmacy and got the same BS about not filling the IRs without an OC script too. And again they wouldn't check other stores for me. Off we go again to another store. They say they would fill it, but they didn't have enough. Fortunately the sweet girl that was working took pity on me after I told her the nightmare I was having trying to get it filled. She called 5 stores before she found one that would do it. God bless that girl! LoL

Anyway, we get to that store and they said they would expedite it for us if we were going to wait, or we could come back later. We decided to wait, and an hour later we asked if it would be much longer and the pharmacist said it would be awhile because she had to do "extra paperwork" for the DEA. By this time I was hurting so bad I just wanted to go home and go to bed. But they said they would call when it was ready. Needless to say they never called, so I went to pick it up the next day and they started giving me grief over having a Indiana drivers license, but they did give me the script with the suggestion I get a Arizona license ASAP. I'd been in the state a whole 3 days!

Now things get even more messed up after this months visit to PMC. I start making the rounds of the pharmacies same as last time, and keep getting the same story about how they are only allotted a set amount of controlled substances per month by the DEA, and once they run out that's it until next month. One pharmacy I went to had a locked door and you had to knock. Then a cute little Asian girl comes to the door, but instead of opening it she talks to me through the mail slot. I show her the script for 150 15mg oxy IR, and she said they don't fill controlled substances period...NONE!

Then I go to another pharmacy and the tech says "sure we can do this, do you have your license?" I was elated! But then she saw it was from Indiana and told me they couldn't accept my ID. Then on top of that she said even if I had a license from Arizona the address would have to be from within a 5 mile radius of the store. So I ask her if I have my brother-in-law who lives within 5 miles and has an Arizona license come in would she fill it? To which she replies, "now that you've told me that, no, that would be cheating the system." WTF!!!

I end up going to the pharmacy that I finally got them filled at last month. Different pharmacist working, and he asked if I'd ever filled there before and I affirmed that I had. Then he starts grilling me about my medical condition while typing into his terminal. He then informs me that the Indiana database called "INSPECT" had no record of me! I tell him it has to be a mistake because I been taking this medication for years, and my PM in Indiana ran a "INSPECT" report on me and every other patient before every appointment. Then he says "maybe I mispelled your name" and I give him my license so he can type it correctly, and i also give him my bottle from the previous month that was filled at that exact pharmacy. Which he then replies to me with "just because some other pharmicist filled it, doesn't mean I will." (Basically just being a power mad asshat with a Napolion complex!) It dawns on me that I have my pharmacy and medical records where we're staying and that I could go get them and come back. But first I offer to give him my username and password to my pharmacy accounts at CVS and Marsh so he could verify that I was on this exact same medication, but at twice the dosage. He wouldn't do that though, it would be to easy. So I call my wife and ask her to pull my pharmacy records, leave the script with him, and go to get the pharmacy records. We get back and then he starts scrutinizing my records and giving me even more grief. After about 5 minutes of that he says he'll get started on filling it, and over a hour later I FINALLY had my medicine.

I'm telling you, I have NEVER had issues like this before. It's just torturing people who are already going through HELL, and it seems like they enjoy it. I don't wish anything bad on these people, or anyone they love. But the universe has a way of taking care of people like that last guy.

I really don't know what to do, because I've been told that it's going to be like this every month. After my first appointment out here it took over 4 hours to find a place to fill this particular medication. And my second appointment was at 3:30pm, and I couldn't get the script filled until well after 8:30pm.

I've had dilaudid before and it worked well for me, but I'm not established enough with this PC to be comfortable asking her to switch me to it. And even if she did, I may still have the same problem getting it filled. Who knows, it may even be worse!

All the pharmacies here in Phoenix say that there are so many PC prescribing Oxycodone that it's only going to get worse, but I don't see how that could be possible.

Thanks for letting me sound off on ya'll, and I hope we can somehow get a better system in the future so that we don't have to suffer needlessly, and be treated like junkies and criminals.

ScooterKat, you do need to get an Arizona Drivers License, ASAP. You may run into pharmacists refusing your previous DL because it isn't current.

Regarding your brother-in-law, it isn't his prescription.

ScooterKat welcome to another failed Obama policy! Any imbecile knows the majority of pharmaceutical drugs on the street are coming into this country across our borders! Not the patients!
So Obama creates a lie that their coming from patients here and woosh here comes policies that punish suffering Americans and the pharmaceutical drugs are still all over our streets! Gee I wonder who the liar is that lies about everything and has our borders running like monstrous flood gates?
I wish you luck ScooterKat in trying to keep your sanity while attempting just to have some type of less suffering in your life, but as you and others are finding out just how low on the food chain we have become as suffering Americans. A drug abuser has now obtained a higher level of importance than us thanks to more failed socialist agendas and policies... Suffering Americans are an easier target than big cartel drug dealers bringing pharmaceutical drugs across our borders, so they come after the weakest people of all!

Thanks for your input, and considering the fact that I'm only 2 hours from the border, I'm considering heading to Mexico every few months and buying a bottle or 2 of a 1000.

If I can get my PD to switch me to Dilaudid and find I'm having the same problem getting it filled, Mexico may be my best choice. The wife and I will just make a vacation weekend of it every few months....screw OBAMA!

I have fibro and my internist has been prescribing Mr for the last 3 years 7.5 norco 4 times a day. I recently had a bought with facet joint and have had 2 pain blocks. My orthopedic gave me a script for 28 pills 3 times and I had them filled. Pain was terrible. After the last pain block. The pain is so much better I took my regular script to the pharmacy to fill and they said they noticed that I had had script filled for same medication from another dr and that they would have to contact doctors to let them know. I didn't know I should not have filled pain med from orthopedic dr but the pain was so bad I was taking 6 a day instead of 4. Now the facet joint pain is almost gone I will not be getting script from orthopedic dr. Will I be able to continue getting script for pain med from internist? I tried to explain this to pharmacist but she continued to say she would have to talk to doctors.

Ok so I have a pain contract with my primary dr and he's been writing a monthly scrip of perc 7.5 for my condition for years and I have stuck to it to the max. I have just finally started seeing a pain dr who is giving me my injections as well. I asked him if he could just take over all scripts and he said yes. He wrote me another one for perc 7.5. The pm dr is aware of all my meds and I ne er asked for abother one for the perc. He wrote it anyway. So I just filled the one from my primary a few weeks ago before my new visit and I had it filled but now I have another one from a good pain clinic after my U/A's. My problem is that my new dr is 3 hours away an I'm not always sure when I can get there. So if the pain dr already knew and still wrote a new one I'm wondering if I can fill that one as well now or should I wait til the other one is gone? Or should I just not worry about it and fill it anyway with cash. I'm just tying to not get in trouble. My condition is chronic disease

My stomach dr prescribed me 5mg norco. Due to refill on the the 15th. On July 1st my shoulder popped out. I had an appt w my general dr - told him about my shoulder and he gave me a script for 10mg norco. I tried to fill it to no avail. This is in Fl. I've never filled a pain medication from my general dr. Can I get this filled? How can I find out if I am red flagged? I had a hysterectomy in February and my shoulders bad...I've only been taking them for 4 months...please help.

You aren't going to be able to get a TX filled that if for the same pain Med. It has nothing to do with the Dr that wrote the rx. If you could find a pharmacist that would fill it, your stomach Dr may not give you another pain rx

I wasn't able to get it filled. I didn't realize the laws. If I did not fill it---will I be red flagged? I can legally fill it on the 15th. I'll wait...thanks though!

if a dr from out of state writes rx for oxycodone 30mg and the pharmacist has been filling them for 2 years and then she tells everyone she cant fill out of state rx for narcotics anymore, but then you find out she is filling all of your family members rx but yours, and tells them not to tell anyone, is that legal. she is only filling about 15 rx and they all go to the doctor together?

A pharmacist can use their professional judgment under federal when.it comes to filling prescriptions. So no it is Not illegal for a pharmacist to refuse to fill a rx. It doesn't matter what others rxs they fill for that person, the persons family or from that particular Dr. You can try going to another store.
