Difference Between Adderall And Amphetamine Salts (Page 18) (Top voted first)

I was recently diagnosed with Adult ADD and have been prescribed Amphetamine Salts (Generic for Adderall) for a few months now. The initial dosage was one 10mg tablet/ three times a day and recently my Doctor upped the dosage to one 30mg tablet/ twice a day. I know that overall this has been very beneficial for me but I cant help but wonder if the generic brand (IR Amphetamine Salts) has less of the active ingredient, and more unnecessary side effects(irritability, fatigue). I know that while the active ingredients are likely to be the same, the "fillers" usually are not and even the active ingredients can vary up to 10%. I also know that everybody reacts differently depending on their bodies' make-up as well as the drugs and I have always reacted sensitively to any kind of drug. The more I "google" the more I want to stay away from the generic form. Also- almost every pharmacy around has little to no Adderall Brand IR tablets in stock, they only have the generic brands and possibly Adderall brand but only the Extended-Release. My Doctor seems to firmly believe that there is no difference between Adderall XR and Adderall IR, and because she prescribed me the generic form (Amphetamine Salts), she probably doesn't see a difference there either. I don't have the time to ask 10 doctors what they think so if anyone has any information or experiences please share! Thank you!

Margarita (Yeah go have another sweetheart), If God made people with ADD/ADHD not smart then it would be impossible for any drug to make them smart. I hope you re-read your comment and reflect on how presumptuous, stereotypical, and completely insensitive you appear to be. I will have you know that I did not start taking medication until my 30's because when I was in elementary school ADHD was considered to be a male disorder and it was thought everyone had to do poorly academically. I graduated high school, and have 2 years of college (psych major) with a 3.8 GPA. ADD/ADHD is not just about academic performance. I aced classes sure, it just took me twice to three times as long to study, write reports, read books, etc as my peers. Not because I am stupid, but because I have issues with my mind constantly wandering off into thoughts about other things. I have no doubt that most with ADD/ADHD are extremely smart. Most people do poorly in school because they get frustrated with the amount of time it takes to complete tasks. I got frustrated too, I just also happen to be a perfectionist so I can't bring myself to stop until it's done right.I would really love to see your medical files Margarita. I'm willing to bet you have some kind of medical issue. How would you like it If you were talking about your medical problems to your peers and I came in the room and told you and your friends that your issues are fake. Deal with your medical issues Margarita! If God wants you to have Chronic Constipation then by golly Margarita you better stay away from those laxatives, enemas, suppositories and suck it in! Dear Margarita,

Your comment is probably the most ignorant and preposterous thing I've ever heard. I can't imagine that there could be something so terrible in someone's life that they feel the need to expose their benightedness to a bunch of strangers asking for advice on a condition they share. I just received the Generic too for the very first time. Dr. just thought I should save some money and if it worked great. If not he will write the Adderol. I searched to see if there was a real difference between the 2.

I take 30 mg twice daily and 15mg before bedtime I am so much focused and understanding I feel as if people that never had problems as a child with severe mistreatment and being said , being molested and not having a great child hood would have a whole lot to do with the attention situation in life all I can say is sit down and read a f........., book instead of thinking about how someone else feels and understand that GOD DID NOT MAKE US THE SAME AND I WILL BE THE FIRST TO TELL EVERYONE THERE IS A GOD HE DOES EXIST AND HES AWESOME IN EVERY WHICH WAY POSSIBLE SO BACK THE F...,OFF AND GO PICK ON SOMEONE ELSE FOR THE SO CALLED UNDERSTANDING THAT YOU THINK YOU HAVE GO PLAY WITH YOURSELF IT SOUNDS ALLOT BETTER THAN PICKING ON SICK FOLKS THANKS

That is the most off based, generalistic bunch of nonsense. Narcolepsy? That's what I'm taking it for? Funny, my doctor never mentioned that. I take 30mg xr in the morning, put a smile on my face, go to work, and get s*** done. Increases focus and concentration, much less fatigue, Drug abusers are out there. Just like stupid people which I'm sure you know one pretty well. Its an age old story. Prescriptions are good for you if you have a good doctor and can follow direction.

Margarita, Let me first start off by saying that ADD/ADHD has absolutely nothing to do with whether you are smart or dumb. It is by no means an intelligency issue so when you say it is the way God made you, yes a person is the way they are because they were born that way but it's also because of doctors that the people are helped everyday and God made those people just like he made everyone else in this world! Ithe seems like to me you are the ignorant one here

I found the generic XR capsule for Adderall made me weepy and depressed. The brand name capsule had me functioning fine. I hate that insurance dictates what a patient can take! I finally switched to the tablets and take it a 9 am and again at 3:30 pm. Without it I can't focus, will sleep a lot and not remember anything,

I have ADD and my IQ tests at the "genius" level. Keep your stupid comments to yourself, because the only truly ignorant statements being made here, are by you. Also, pull your self-righteous head out of your rear, because amphetamines are VERY DIFFERENT than speed, which is a METHAMPHETAMINE; there's no drano in amphetamines. I do love when people come to these threads with their pedestals and their bibles, acting in the least civil and Christian ways any one human being possibly could, by insulting the crap out of anyone who doesn't live AND SIN exactly as they do. I like to start by saying thanks for all the shared experience. I am 49 and have had add my whole life. I struggled through school as a child. when the joke " I make coffee nervous" or do I ever slow down. Or my thoughts are all over the place. I realized it's time to try medication. So today I tried it. I'm on the generic form and felt ok. not certain if it will help. Im happy for all who share on this site as I'm up at 5 am (think I took Secound pill to late) I watch a documentary on adhd on the public tv station PBS. It was me all the way! I just hate medication and avoided treatment. However my love ones are happy for me. So I will see how this goes. I like to just comment on the statement made by one writer here in regards to there comment there is no God. My heart feels sad for you as to think there is no God I would not have handled the hard bumps in life. I thank God for getting me through everyday??. Thanks for letting me share
