Difference Between Adderall And Amphetamine Salts (Page 16) (Top voted first)

I was recently diagnosed with Adult ADD and have been prescribed Amphetamine Salts (Generic for Adderall) for a few months now. The initial dosage was one 10mg tablet/ three times a day and recently my Doctor upped the dosage to one 30mg tablet/ twice a day. I know that overall this has been very beneficial for me but I cant help but wonder if the generic brand (IR Amphetamine Salts) has less of the active ingredient, and more unnecessary side effects(irritability, fatigue). I know that while the active ingredients are likely to be the same, the "fillers" usually are not and even the active ingredients can vary up to 10%. I also know that everybody reacts differently depending on their bodies' make-up as well as the drugs and I have always reacted sensitively to any kind of drug. The more I "google" the more I want to stay away from the generic form. Also- almost every pharmacy around has little to no Adderall Brand IR tablets in stock, they only have the generic brands and possibly Adderall brand but only the Extended-Release. My Doctor seems to firmly believe that there is no difference between Adderall XR and Adderall IR, and because she prescribed me the generic form (Amphetamine Salts), she probably doesn't see a difference there either. I don't have the time to ask 10 doctors what they think so if anyone has any information or experiences please share! Thank you!

Having said that, however, I also must say that the response from the person with the superiority complex brings out the Snob Crusher in me! Yeah, they can tell me it's the same all they want, but when you have taken the real thing for years and INSTANTLY can tell it isn't the same... you are right.... they are not being honest. Robbery.

I would like to intervene on what Margarita has stated "that if your stupid, God made you that way", which is kind of harsh to say Margarita. God does not have anything to do on how smart your going to turn out, you do. Some people need this drug to help to focus and to bring their knowledge out, which is already embedded in them. So that was even stupid for you to say. And Celeste G, if you dont believe in God, that's nobody's problem but yours. You know it's some of us that do right? But anyways, I do agree that there is a huge difference between the generic and Adderall xr. The generic makes me so sleepy and I don't have a urge to do anything, but when I started taking adderall xr 20mg, I found myself becoming very focus and alert, patient and more articulate without forgetting what I'm going to say and my words flow out much smoother in conversations like a charm. So yes, a tremendous difference. With Adderall Xr, I even find myself not having to take Zoloft with this drug because it satisfies what Zoloft suppose to do and more.

I doubt it matters, its like ritalin HCl and methylphenidate HCl. It's just the brand or trade name. Included HCl since you were talking about extended release.

So the most common treatment for that would be ritalin and an SSRI. You should probably sue him though.

I was taking Adderall for (ADHD) and felt great, I could focus better and read one book instead of starting three or four, I was sociable and coherent. My Doctor switched me to Amphetamine Salts 10mg once a day and I feel NOTHING. Any idea why?

You obviously have no clue and took medications yourself for the wrong reasons! Your trying to tell me every doctor in the world is wrong to prescribe adderall to people that have tested to need it ! You really need to do your research before you throw all this negativity garbage that you have no idea what you are talking about! There are so many people that take medications that make such a positive change and impact in their life's for the best ! Keep your judgmental opinions to yourself next time !

I was diagnosed with severe Narcolepsy/Cataplexy and ADD about 12 years ago. I tried several different stimulants in varying doses before finding Adderall XR about 10 years ago. It was an AMAZING success so I took it successfully for about 10 yrs. Last year I decided to take a hiatus from all the meds I was on to cleanse my body (ironically I have alwYs been more inclined toward natural medicine options, although for my Narc/Cata and ADD it has never worked). Now after 15 mos off my adderall I have hit rock bottom. I am completely bedridden. So my new doctor has prescribed Adderall IR 10mgs 1-2x daily to start as he feels my tolerance will now be uncharacteristically low. My insurance, like most, only covers the generic- amphetamine salt combo. I'd like any info any of you can offer as to it's efficacy, action etc compared to my former and very successful treatment with Adderal XR.

Hi Jaimie. I am like you: I have severe narcolepsy, chronic idiopathic hypersomnia, cataplexy, and add. I can't take Provigil cuz it only works for a day or two. So I take Adderall. And I hate it. I'm on the generic right now and it isn't working. It's also not stable. I can never know what side effects I'll have. I used to take the brand name XR and it was quite successful. I'm going to ask to switch on Tues when I see my dr. I'll let u know how it goes.

I hope you find relief soon. This is NO way to live. It's horrible and lonely.

I take a 5th amphetamine salt just 1 time a day in by the way.only on day 2 but tired from the get go! Is this normal or will I get the Amo up? Do I need to up these or are they not in my system yet?
