Difference Between Adderall And Amphetamine Salts (Page 14) (Top voted first)

I was recently diagnosed with Adult ADD and have been prescribed Amphetamine Salts (Generic for Adderall) for a few months now. The initial dosage was one 10mg tablet/ three times a day and recently my Doctor upped the dosage to one 30mg tablet/ twice a day. I know that overall this has been very beneficial for me but I cant help but wonder if the generic brand (IR Amphetamine Salts) has less of the active ingredient, and more unnecessary side effects(irritability, fatigue). I know that while the active ingredients are likely to be the same, the "fillers" usually are not and even the active ingredients can vary up to 10%. I also know that everybody reacts differently depending on their bodies' make-up as well as the drugs and I have always reacted sensitively to any kind of drug. The more I "google" the more I want to stay away from the generic form. Also- almost every pharmacy around has little to no Adderall Brand IR tablets in stock, they only have the generic brands and possibly Adderall brand but only the Extended-Release. My Doctor seems to firmly believe that there is no difference between Adderall XR and Adderall IR, and because she prescribed me the generic form (Amphetamine Salts), she probably doesn't see a difference there either. I don't have the time to ask 10 doctors what they think so if anyone has any information or experiences please share! Thank you!

This Amphetamine + Dextroamphetamine medication doesn't work. They removed the medicine that worked for me for 35 years. In addition, it's very expensive. Just because people abused the drug they took it off the market. Left the rest of us to suffer.

When a generic company conducts its testing to demonstrate that their product is bioequivalent, they often will only use 10-15 subjects. Sometimes they may not even include geriatric patients, or patients of a different race.

Moreover, the FDA does not proactively supervise or oversee the generic firm's testing, they accept that the generic firm did not "fudge" their data, and that solid internal and external validity prevailed during testing.

The results of the generic company's testing are NOT made available to the public.

Finally, and this is where it becomes even more concerning, is that most generic companies actually produce their product in third world countries....usually India.

They may have offices in the United States and distribute the drug here, but they make the drug in places (that I can assure you) you would not..... want to live

I just found out that if you drink oj or anything with vitamin C it can cancel out the ADD medicine your taking, i took Dextroamphetamine er 15mg. No one has it so i have to switch but my Doctor said vitamin C cancels out its effects.

Camber is the worst generic Adderall. There is an entire topic on how bad it is. Having said that, I am glad it works fine for you.

We need the meds. No one is watching the pharmaceutical companies. There needs to be strict government oversight and regulations like the FDA to watch what fillers are added. I almost died taking a generic adderall from Malinkrot pharmacy.

I agree with Jan on this subject, if the government is going to control our medication they should follow through with what goes into these medicatios. Adderall for one, there's a dozen different manufacturers, formulations are all different and it shows in the way they work in our body's. Once approved little attention is provided for how their made. Brand name and generics are as different as night and day. The same is true with generics. To much flexibility is allowed, 20% is huge. Each should have the same % active ingredient as well as binders used. Patients need not hope what they are dispensed will work for them. With stricter standards these medications would all work the same within 2 %. Theirs way to much prescription medication in our Pharmacys that are Sub Standard !!

My point exactly. These medications are controlled, all C2 's should be the same. We should be confident these are manufactured correctly. Our DEA pushes their weight and authority around but falls short in controlling quality and now quantity. As important as pharmaceuticals are to everyone from doctors, pharmacist and the consumer, this should be done exactly right!

I agree this is one of the more serious and dangerus drugs out there and should be used with extream caution but I disagree about I helping inprove the quality of ouyr life I am extreamly dyslexic. The amount out energy I have to use at work double and triple checking every thing I do is exhausting but with a small amout ofm the aderall I make is less exhausting and and easier to do allmthe trick I have learnd over the years to hide my dyslexia from my co worker is stead themthink they think the opposite and concered me to be one ofm the most thuro and accurate workern they know no adderall will not salve you problems or make them go away put will help u deal with them better

AADme, that's how I use it just for work not on the weekends but my doctor is freaking out about it and can't comprehend why I wouldn't take it every day but the side effects for me are much less I'm able to eat and sleep on the weekend. M y doctor almost wouldn't prescribe it to me. Got any ideas

Nope, nothing to suggest. I have decided to use the short acting form regularly. When I don't take it, I am in a neuro fog, can't think or act. Love the focus w the med. No side effects so far, exc an increase in my BP that we are tracking.
I just use it twice a day, in the morning, sometime between 8 and 10, and afternoon, between 4 and 6.

And for Sam, I'm sorry you went threw that. It seems that your doctors really wanted money out of you, when all you might have needed was a different form of this pill. They didn't communicate with each other on your dosage, which could be terms for expulsion, and I would suggest to get all the information and bills/receipts and take those negligent doctors to court, but you mentioned that you self-medicated, so that wouldn't work at all. There is a very clear warning label on my bottle, as well as a long insert with my bag, and my doctor warned me in his office that I was to not take more than he told me is safe. You may want to seek out a better doctor who can find a good medium for you. Children are even suppose to take a break from this kind of pill during week ends, every holiday, and during winter and summer break just so they get a break to know how they feel when they are off of it, and so doctors can see if the dosage is right. So even as an adult, you need breaks. You got to sleep sometime, plus it would help you train your body and mind to be stronger on their own when you aren't on the pills. Either way, If you have ADD or ADHD, these pill can help you. You may not have it, but if you do, you know the suffering that comes with not having the pills help buffer the electricity in your brain to route the signals to the right places. Then again, you may be scared to try a pill that can help you. That takes time, but in the end, you either have ADD or you don't. You either suffer or you don't. You do need to get a different set of doctors though.

I was prescribed salts of amphetamine 6 months ago. Two 10mg pills per day to help me with my ADD. It has helped me in many ways but in some not so much. Before i took the generic version of aderall i weighed in at 215lbs I'm 5'10 i wore a size 38 waste and after 4 months of taking it as prescribed i am now in a size 29 waste and way 165lbs i lost 50 pounds within 4 months of taking the salts of amphetamine. Was just wondering if that is a normal side affect of this drug (decrease in appetite) ?? And also is there any difference between Salts of Amphetamine and the actual brand name Aderall as far as helping cope with ADD?? Does Aderall give better results??? Thank you!!

I agree if you have never taken or had to take Adderall you will never know what other people are going through. My ten year old daughter struggles in school and at home it is so hard for her to focus. I have taken her to many different specialist. She has a very low IQ and taking the medicine really helps her to focus more. I seriously do not like giving her the med but if it help I am going to follow the instructions of my doctor.

I would suggest that you go to an "Allergist" for your daughter to rule out any food allergies. Your daughter is only six years old and her symptoms may be the result of any number of conditions, not necessarily ADD or ADHD. Couldn't hurt to try before medication! Ask around for a good "Allergist" in your neighborhood, friends, work associates, computer, doctor. Do not just accept the first referral from your PCP. If there is a "Homeopathic/MD" in your area even better. What ever route you choose, a little research goes a long, long way. Good luck!
