Difference Between Adderall And Amphetamine Salts (Page 11)

I was recently diagnosed with Adult ADD and have been prescribed Amphetamine Salts (Generic for Adderall) for a few months now. The initial dosage was one 10mg tablet/ three times a day and recently my Doctor upped the dosage to one 30mg tablet/ twice a day. I know that overall this has been very beneficial for me but I cant help but wonder if the generic brand (IR Amphetamine Salts) has less of the active ingredient, and more unnecessary side effects(irritability, fatigue). I know that while the active ingredients are likely to be the same, the "fillers" usually are not and even the active ingredients can vary up to 10%. I also know that everybody reacts differently depending on their bodies' make-up as well as the drugs and I have always reacted sensitively to any kind of drug. The more I "google" the more I want to stay away from the generic form. Also- almost every pharmacy around has little to no Adderall Brand IR tablets in stock, they only have the generic brands and possibly Adderall brand but only the Extended-Release. My Doctor seems to firmly believe that there is no difference between Adderall XR and Adderall IR, and because she prescribed me the generic form (Amphetamine Salts), she probably doesn't see a difference there either. I don't have the time to ask 10 doctors what they think so if anyone has any information or experiences please share! Thank you!
I have been on adderall generic and ritalin for a 10 years. They stop working faster than anything I ever have taken. You never forget to take them like other drugs since your brain wants that dopamine release. I have been on many antidepressants over the years the Drs. said you been on a bzillion medications we should not go down that road. So I get older and toil through life. My father is slipping away with Dementia I wish I was there for him. I cannot believe how quickly my body has broken Adderall drug down and it's like they do not work but I am so addicted I only stop when I run out.
Thank you for your kind words and thorough explanation. I am self conscious about telling people about my ADD because of the negativity and false information associated with adderall and those that think ADD is a fake disease.
Yeah obviously you are completely one sided and do not take any of these drugs. Why don't you try to be a little more about the solution instead of part of the problem. She's/we are asking for opinions on the generic Adderall and real Adderall, we are looking for facts as to why the drugs differ from one to the other. I am not a narcoleptic and I was diagnosed with ADD at a very young age. I tried to not do the medication thing for quite some time and have just recently gotten back on medications. I can't afford insurance so I pay out of pocket, so not only is it next to impossible to attain these little bastards at the pharmacy because it seems that everybody and their mother is on them but also are super expensive... So when I do pay out of pocket around 350/400 a month all said and done they are not up to par, sub sub par. I don't know who or what you stand for but imagine going to a bunch of stores like Whole foods to get a certain type of organic apple, and they are sold out everywhere, but you need this apple cause it's organic, GMO free, blah blah, you finally find this apple and then you realize after you bite into it, it tastes like an onion and oh wait it is an onion it's just been spray painted red and a sticker that says what you want to see and read on it.
If the medications make you feel better than by all means take them. Pretty sure your dr. Wouldn't give you anything you couldn't handle. And screw whatever anyone else thinks. We are not all perfect. Some of us just need a little help and ain't nothing wrong with that!
God is alive! Who else gave man the capability to create drugs we take to help us? Everything with a doctors advice, God guiding you and moderation.
Sammy, I feel the same about these kids being on too early. We took my daughter off until she was going to college. I went on it at 30 .my view is if i need to wear glasses to see. Then ill wear glasses.if i don't want to run around looking for my corner in a round room ,I'll take my adderall. Its a wonderful tool to have .thank you for your post. Peace & Soul, D
Well they lied it seems, now it's 2.38, but the brand adderall don't exist anymore anyway.
Logan, I really think my son had ADD worse than anyone who lived on the face of the earth. And I'm not proud of it. Anyway, I refused to put him on it when he was young, his brain is still developing. He is twenty and now I'll consider. Unless you're kid is failing school try to hold off. I went on at 38 yrs old for the first time. And I too at times was more creative and multi tasked. However, as a nurse NO medication is good for the brain. I also take xanax. I got to a point I didn't care about side effects, I needed to finish deadlines and Remember conversation's I've forgotten I've had. People will always find us a bit strange. If you ALL want to feel better, look up Celebrities who had it. It is always the most intelligent people who carry this disorder. So who the hell, mentioned stupid, or retarded. Everything has side effect's it is a matter of how badly one need's it. I wish years earlier I found Adderall. What a difference, I don't run in the house six times for keys and pocket book, etc.. Careful with kid's to all. May cause severe depression if brain hasn't fully developed. May be fine, I'm very cautious with my kid. And believe me, he NEEDS it. But I'm still deciding. Brain is done developing at 23. Hope I helped.
It's only addictive if you have an addictive personality. I've been taking adderall on and off for the past 8 years of my life due to my adhd. When I'm off of the prescription during summer or easy semesters I am completely fine and have no urge to use it. Also, when finals come around it proves to be very beneficial. I would not recommend taking it 365 days a year though.
There is no real difference. The X-ray however lasts longer and packs less punches. Crush the opponents is a boxing metaphor. Lol
Adderal isn't just some drug kids take for fun. I take it in order to function because my ADHD makes it practically impossible for me to concentrate. I have an attention span of 20 seconds or less and can't function or pay attention in school without it. On top of that, having adhd reduces the amount of dopamine being produced in my brain causes me to have mood issues and be depressed. The adderall not only helps me focus more normally, it keeps my depression and anxiety from getting bad, and improves my general mood. So, actually adderall can totally be taken by others than narcoleptics. It's far more frequently prescribed to people with add and adhd anyways. And fyi, methamphetamine is also a legally prescribable add and adhd medication. Both meth and dextroamphetamine (adderall) are nothing like cocaine. They are chemically very different are aren't even in the same drug family.
I'm sorry, I can't find edit on here, what I was saying was what's weird is my insurance co covers the brand, and it's actually 24 bucks while the generic is 30, but I'm having trouble getting the brand. I know it's now Teva who owns the brand Adderal IR, so I really want to try it.
What mats strange is my insurance co covers the brand, and it's 24 bucks she the generic is 30, the problem is being able to get the brand.
Most insurances won't cover the brand Adderall anyway. They will only cover the generic and it's a 50/50 chance if they will allow an exception for the brand. A big part is how the doctor presents the case for the brand.
People who abuse drugs really do harm to themselves and also people who take it as prescribed, whether it's opiates or amphetamine it doesn't matter, both are safe if you do it the right way. If you take 20 pills at one time of either oh well, rest in peace, I mean come on.
Opiates if not abused are awesome.
What are 'stay awake' medicines? Lol I like your posts Herb. I'm glad you have had success treating your add. I would love to get mine straight and the right meds/ dosing. How much do you take per day? Have you changed medicines at all, ever, and what do you take, the label name?
Thank you for your time and help.
The "stay awake" meds don't do a damn thing for ADD , only amphetamine works .
The DEA made the mistake of listing Adderall as a much more dangerous drug than Opiates for years and they were totally wrong .
Opiates are far far more dangerous , most of the Physicians i have seen over the years agree that Amphetamine should be a class III drug.
Adderall is a life saver for so many with the debilitating disease of ADD/ADHD.
I was an absolute mess before i started taking it and my life has changed 100% for the better.
I now take the lowest dose i have ever taken and it's working great.
Ask pharmacy to get what you want. They should do it otherwise go to different. Pharmacy .
