Diazepam Dependence
UpdatedCan any one help? I've been on and off taking diazepam for sleep 20-30 mg twice a week at most for mainly this year, but have taken it in the past. I am wondering whether I will become dependent on it. I am really concerned, and this week had a really bad anxiety, so I took some to chill out through day. Now I am wondering if the anxiety was brought on through the diazepam or just because I had a bad day?? Thanks in advance

Yes you can become dependant on this. You need to speak with your doctor or psychiatrist about your anxiety. If you think it's getting worse. 20-30 mg is a high dose of xanax. The normal dose is 0.75-1.5 mg. Wondering if what you wrote is a typo.
Dependence really requires you to be taking it regularly, it isn't common for it to happen, if you are only taking something as needed, or occasionally, but it is possible.
The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and irritability.
It is hard to say what may have caused your anxiety, since benzodiazepines like Diazepam have been known to cause it, as well as other mood changes, in some people that take them.
Have you discussed it with your doctor?
