Depakote Er And Generic
Updated19 years ago I began taking pills for Bi-Polar. After trying different pills on trial basis for 2 yrs we finally found a combination that works for me and that is Depakote and Prozac. I have found out that I can take generic Prozac but I can not take generic Depakote nor can I take Depakote with out the ER - I must have the real Depakote ER. I see the pill as large oval and gray in color. Because most medical insurances including Medicare and Medicaid will not automatically pay for the real thing so I have to get my Depakote ER approved every two months through Medicaid. For it, it is worth it. I have found that every 4 or 5 years I have to stopped the Depakote ER for about 2 years and then I go back on it again., When my brain won't close down day or night (even though I am on Depakote) then I know it is time to give my body a rest from it. During that time I still take Prozac and take alot of Calcium which also helps calm the body. The worst side effect for me with Depakote ER is that is eats my bones - Osteoporosis is bad in my body. I was born with brittle bones so this side effect of eating the calcium in my body is bad for me but when I weight the benefits against the side effects, the benefits are good. My experience tells me that generic Depakote made from different companies may effect me in ways I do not like, so I insist I get Depakote ER - The real thing. Gray, Large Oval and must have the ER on the end. I have tried other Bi-polar pills but this is the best for me.

I understand depakoteis the best for you as it is the same for me it works the best but I have also foundother mood leveers such as lithium which is a mood lever let works real similarsome may work for better than others if you have not tried lithium give it a try give it a 6 week.for resultshey also another good combo is effexor 75 milligrams twice a day for 6 weeks then if not desired results move to 150 milligrams twice a day your psychiatrist will do blood work to move your lithium to maximum potential that may be an option for you and back to the depakotethe color of the pill has a lot to do of the manufacturer not necessarily brand name or not but it mayfor sure depakote is the number one drug for bipolar proven facts but if a weight factor is a problem for you you may be able to scale back to lithium and have a happy medium with weight loss and mental health increasedthe I am sorry I am using voice recognition is why some words are running together and try the maximum potential of the effexor and please keep every 6 weeks running your blood work for the depakote to get optimal use or the lithium try both to see which works best for you I think you'll be surprisedgive it a try it will not hurt you but make sure you give the mood levelers 6 weeks then do blood work see what the increase needs to be increase again do blood work again until you reach the optimal of the medication the only thing about the lithium you may see the same results and your mental health but not the weight increase good luck
