Decreasing Seroquel And Any Lasting Efefcts For Future?
UpdatedHello, I have been on the following dosages of Seroquel for some anxuety issues:
2005-2010: 200 mgs at bedtime
2010-2011: 100 mgs at bedtime
since 2012 to now (early 2013) I have been on 50mgs of Seroquel at bedtime.
I wanted to ask for those with experience and knowledge on this medication or the anti psychotics in general:
-after I am down to 0 mgs of this medication, how long will it take for me to return to the way I was before starting the meciation in term of my make up.
-will the weight gain stop ( have went from 180 to 194 in the last 8 years)?
-will the metabolism be alright (speed up again)?
-will I be able to drink again normally?
-Do you think the negative effects it may have had on my body have been decreased since my body is used to the medication over these years
-*-And importantly, if there was any damage; after stopping the medication will I get better or has it been too many years?
thank you, it seems now the medicince is more for maintenance and not so much for use since I feel better now and I am looking to continue my tapering off..

Many of these questions don't really have a definitive answer that can be given, because a lot depends on you and your body.
For instance, I can tell you that the half-life of this medication is 6 hours and the elimination time from your body is usually 5 to 6 half-lives, so that would be 30 to 36 hours, but that's not how fast any side effects you're experiencing will wear off or how fast you'll feel like yourself again. That may take months, since it can take your brain awhile to rebalance the chemicals on its own.
Learn more Seroquel details here.
Yes, the weight gain should stop in a few days and your metabolism should eventually return to normal, though that may also take a few months, since it also involves rebalancing of the chemicals in your body.
As to drinking normally, I am not sure what you mean here. Can you please post back and clarify, for instance did you mean alcohol?
And the last two about the negative effects and the damage, there is really no way to answer them, only time will tell on that.
Richard,
I was where you are almost a year ago.
Yes, you are going to feel better, your mind will clear, and you will lose weight.
Long term effects....I can't answer. Still waiting on that myself. I can tell you, I no longer need high blood pressure meds and I feel that is a positive.
I do hope your taking something to keep you leveled, and for me, drinking anything mind altering is as bad as taking 200mg's of Seroquel. I hope you can refrain if that is what you meant in your post.
I wish you well, and hope you encourage someone a year from now. :)
I was on xanax, klonopin 11 years, lamictal, seroquel 400 mg for 8. I gained 28lbs, had hair and memory loss, rls, td, several other side effects. I went off cold turkey 2 years ago. I think i've finally got my metabolism just this month. Will my hair ever grow back? Lost all the negative effects slowly, maybe still normalizing. Except this: i started having severe muscle cramping which still continues - no explanation. All blood tests normal. Has this ever been reported before?
