Cymbalta is one of the hardest drugs I ever had to come off of. The side effects are horrific. I was on this drug for about 8 years and tried several times to stop. I have been on numerous antidepressants in my life time also and this one by far is the hardest to stop. Even tapering off of this drug I experienced the worst side effects ever. Now I know what drug addicts go thru when they say they can't stop taking it. Cymbalta had control over me. So I finally got the nerve to stop about a year ago. I had withdraws let me tell you for months. My heart raced and my blood literally felt like it was boiling inside my body. I had chills and cramps and sweats and dizziness with headaches stomach pain hurt like hell. But now that I'm off my mood is awful it did help my mood and anxiety but it has messed my insides up. My stomach and liver and colon are just one big problem and none of it started until this drug. I literally thought I was gonna die when I was coming off this drug. I laid in bed for about 10 days in a fetal position with heart beating thru my chest. I didn't or couldn't move thinking if I did it would make my heart beat even faster and I thought it was about to explode. I called some of my family and told them I loved them and said I don't think I'm gonna make it. So here I am a year later and I do need to get on some antidepressant for my anxiety and depression but I'm scared to death. So that's my experience with Cymbalta. I believe the longer you stay on the harder it is to stop and let me tell you it does something to your insides and you will gain a whole lot of weight.
Yikes. It really isn't a good idea to stop taking an antidepressant cold turkey, unless your doctor or pharmacist tells you too. You risk have nasty withdrawal symptoms. Tapering off any drug usually takes only a few days, so why put yourself through more hell?
Cymbalta helps my diagnosed pain. I've had to come of it a couple times and the pain returned very quickly. It doesn't do anything for my depression, though.
It can be easier for some people to stop any given medication than it is for others, it depends on how long it was being taken, how much was being taken, and the person's own body, since we are all different.
Abruptly stopping Cymbalta does create a risk of experiencing rebound depression, anxiety, diarrhea, headaches, and possible seizures, according to FDA reports.
How are you doing, now? Has there been any change?
