Day 1 Of Xulane Instead Of Ortho Evra (Page 9) (Top voted first)

Updated

I HATE this new patch already. Did not adhere to my skin as easily as ortho and came off about 4 hours after applying. I've been on ortho evra for 5 months loved it and never once had a problem but I already can't stand xulane and so I don't know what I'm going to do ! :(
My insurance switched me to xulane because it's the generic brand to ortho evra. This sucks I hate life.
Ps. I'm 18

I was prescribed it when it first came out. I was so mad because I used the ortho evra since 2002 and when they gave me this the side effects made me sick. I haven't been on bc in 3 yrs..

How can you buy ortho evra? Do you need a prescription? Where is it available?

Hi, I am currently on Xulane and have been bleeding for what feels like 2 months now. How long did it take for you to stop? Are you still on it? Help!!

I was on ortho evra for years. I'm just on my third patch of Xulane and I have been break through bleeding (less than a full period.... More like the final days of a period). I have been bleeding for over two weeks straight. I hate it! I also started getting acne a week after I started this patch. This is terrible because I am bloated and don't want to leave my house. I'm so over this, but my insurance wants way too much to switch back. I didn't even know they switched me to generic till I got home and opened up the staples from my pharmacy bag! I was shocked (I thought they gave me the wrong prescription), but I didn't mind trying because many generic brands work just as good, but my body does not respond well to these. I'm tempted to go back on the pill, but those made me so nauseated I couldn't even eat. I lost so much weight on the pill in the past and I'm already less than 100lbs on a normal day as it is. I don't have a choice unless I choose a different birth control because I have PCOS. I'm beyond upset! Does anyone know if the symptoms improve over time? Is anyone else getting acne?

The sales numbers on Ortho Evra dropped drastically, so the "Business Decision" reasoning would make sense. I read somewhere: "Prescriptions for Ortho Evra have declined steadily over the last five years, from 5 million in 2006 to about 1.3 million last year."

they discontinued it? Why is that? Are you sure.

My insurance of course won't cover it, so I'll have to foot the bill. It's expensive, but I'm desperate, because I enjoyed using Ortho Evra so much.

I was on the Ortho Evra patch for a good three years and absolutely loved it. I never had mood swings, never got acne, my period was regular and I didn't get fat. Within a month of being automatically switched to Xulane (curse you Obamacare), my boyfriend was begging me to get off it. I hated the world and had the same problems with keeping it on my skin. I went months trying to get my Ortho Evra back only to find out it's discontinued. I'm so depressed. I want it back!!!!!!

@11 Amm you sound very ignorant. You're expected to not shower, exercise, or bend over while using the patch? Get real!

How much do they charge you for Ortho where you live? I think I would have to pay 300 something for 4 months worth and that's with the discount with planned parenthood. It really sucks that people who work and pay for insurance most of them can't get Ortho Evra through their insurance anymore. But if you have no insurance and don't work etc and are lazy/live off welfare you get the name brand. I think it should be the opposite. People who work and pay insurance should get name brand and people who don't work and or pay for insurance should get generic.

Missing your period is a side effect. So is breast and endometrium cancer. Not to mention constant cramping, nausea, never ending hunger and acne which I now have. To add to the anguish the dang thing doesn't even stick i have to continue to press on it now and then throughout the day. This is just my second week so I'm terrified to see what will happen next.

Obviously you're not a medical professional. The first day of your cycle is not the first day of your period. Its called a cycle because its cyclical...the first day is when the whole thing starts over when your period is DONE.

You're not supposed to do any of that. It says so in the instructions.

That's false. People on welfare get the generics!

This is kind of dramatic. Every single side effect I've heard of someone having is obvious with patches and birth control in general. Acne isn't a serious health issue. Neither is a rash around the application area. All others are side effects of the medication. This will not be on legal suit commercials because they include everything you all have been saying. Either pay more for birth control or close your legs.

Sorry to hear about all your troubling experiences with the Xulane patch. I wonder if there's anything you can use to help reinforce the adhesive on it? Depending on where you place it at, maybe wearing an armband that slips on over top of it would work... I was thinking similar to the tight fitting ones you might see NBA players wearing during a game.

There are also different kinds of medical/surgical tape that stick better on skin than some others. I don't recall the name of the brand I once used, but you can usually find that type of tape at places like CVS, Walgreens, or even some grocery stores in their medical/OTC section.

Hope this helps!
