Dbx-13 Scam (Page 3)
UpdatedIn January 2013 - I recently purchased a subscription to the Health Sciences Institute (HSI) newsletter and got the book "Miracles from the Vault." I scoured the pages to find DBX-13 which they advertised as the diabetes miracle cure, and couldn't find it anywhere. I called HSI, and after three attempts and by threatening to take them to court for false advertising, a response finally came by email. DBX-13 is called X-Cravings. But get this... it is no longer being manufactured. X-Cravings appears to be a formula to help you stop craving food... a diet product... and I guess they apparently felt this would help you lose weight which would help your diabetes. I placed a call to the manufacturer of X-Cravings, Nutricology. Tel: (800)545-9960 who claims they don't know that X-Cravings was called DBX-13 by HSI, and they said they discontinued X-Cravings last year (2013). They also don't have a replacement product for it either. I hate when companies like HSI scam you by offering you hope that doesn't exist, which is why I am posting this information.
I hate to say it but I got to HSI through Dr Stengler's email called House Calls. It's a free newsletter that he sends every day. He put a link for HSI's video about H-86 and DBX-13 etc. into this email. If HSI is making claims that are not substantiated, that makes me think if Dr Stengler himself is so credible. I subscribed to Dr Stengler's newsletter called Health Revelations, but cancelled the subscription because it just didn't feel right, the way he presented the information, a bit sensational. A lot of links to HSI and other companies that sell remedies.
I watched the HSI infomercial online then began reading reviews. Some people call it a scam and other's say its legit. I'm always skeptical, so i decided to do some quick research on a product (Palm Vitee) a reviewer said he couldn't find for sale nor find any information online.
Well, I easily found Palm Vitee for sale online - 60 capsules for $75. More importantly, I researched clinical studies; by the way, when I began my research, I didn't even know what Palm Vitee was or its purported health benefits. However, I did find several abstracts from studies done by the US National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health (i.e., ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2012010).
According to the abstract, after a double-blind, crossover, 8-wk study was conducted: "There was a carry over effect of palmvitee. Serum cholesterol concentrations of seven hypercholesterolemic subjects (greater than 7.84 mmol/L) decreased 31% during a 4-wk period in which they were given 200 mg gamma-tocotrienol/d. This indicates that gamma-tocotrienol may be the most potent cholesterol inhibitor in palmvitee capsules. The results of this pilot study are very encouraging." In sum, I am encouraged by my findings! If, in fact, this is product is listed in the book as a remedy to lower cholesterol... then it appears to be valid and supported by clinical trials. That's good enough for me to at least get my hands on this book to conduct more research and see what else it has to offer. I have no skin in the game here; this is not a fictitious review and there is no conspiracy. I just have a lot of medical issues (diabetes, high cholesterol, etc.) and I was intrigued by the video.
I hate taking a ton of meds and the unwanted side effects. Although I must agree with other reviews that the infomercial was way too long and they were obviously going to try and sell me something. But like I said, despite being skeptical, I'm glad I started reading reviews and decided to do some of my own research. I hope the references (URL's) I included are helpful and can help speed up research for anyone else looking to do the same.
BTW, I did a really quick search on DBX-13, H-86, nitric oxide, policosanol, lion's mane mushroom, zizyphus before submitting this post... and found a ton of information and products for sale. I really don't think its a scam! I just think its important to use the information HSI provides to get you started in the right direction (naturopathically) then educate yourself and do some WORK on your own.
steviegirl - I understood that message perfectly. You may be good with English but, do you know where you are lacking? Check yourself, before you wreck yourself!
Bitter melon and cinnamon are very effective in lowering blood sugar. Works for me.
Thank you so much! I've got HSI's video playing in another window as I type this, and its director, Jenny Thompson, is harping on DBX-13 right now. I'm saving however much money her "Miracles from the Vault" would cost me, plus shipping and handling and I owe it all to you for reporting your experience here. I hope you get some satisfaction in any legal or consumer actions you pursue because of your purchase of the book.
Health Sciences Institute is listed as a questionable organization on quackwatch. Also, I have marginal A1C around 6.0. I have experimented with all the ingredients listed in DBX-13 and found no significant difference after two to three months before blood work.
I do believe that there is some credibility to the lists of prescription drugs they accuse of horrible side effects, e.g. statins causing diabetes, loss of cognitive capacity in the brain and muscle damage and some drugs causing obesity, in short, side effects that often would make life less than worth living if they offered a longer lifespan. Still, that does not make HSI legitimate in what they offer. If you have blood pressure, cholesterol, or blood sugar that is a litter higher than it should be, a real exercise program and clean diet will make a difference without "miracle" herbs that (like turmeric, pepper, cinnamon) I have to admit taste wonderful in a recipe and are cheaper to buy in the grocery store.
Now in India a company is releasing a new herbal dryg called BGR34 which has gurmar and 5 other herbs as pills. Has been approved by the government. I am going to try this and your comment on gurmar seems promising.

I purchased the book "Miracles from the Vault" about 2 years ago. I believe it should be renamed "The Snake Oil Bible". Everything in this book is sensationalized. It does not appear to have a lot of science behind it. HSI is in the business to make money. Keep that in mind. It also peddles false hope to many very sick people. It is like sick minded people giving false hope to very sick people.
Wow thanks! Sometimes I'm so gullible. My sister had early Alzheimer's and died from it. Maybe the "Lions mane" could help with memory loss? I think I'll just order some of that on Amazon. I won't be out much money. Thanks again for your post.
I think you lost perspective of what this page is about. As stated: it's a blog not an English class! Are you really that bothered?
Thanks for that information. I WILL stop reading all their information which is just to make money out of us all, as I am diabetic also. I will act accordingly and will bin further stuff .
HSI ARE A BUNCH OF F***ING A**HOLES. JUST WHO THE HELL DO THEY THINK THEY ARE SCREWING AROUND WITH PEOPLE LIKE MYSELF THAT HAS DIABETES? I AM GLAD THAT I READ YOUR REPORT ON THE DBX-13 BECAUSE I WAS GOING TO ORDER IT ON LINE. WHEN PEOPLE DO S*** LIKE THIS AND IT'S A SCAM.... NO WONDER THEY END UP "DEAD" BECAUSE THEY LIED FOR SELF GAIN TO LINE THEIR POCKETS WITH CASH.
If you haven't found the DBX-13 it is because you can only find it by the name Syntra5. It costs like $119.74 (buy 2 Get 1 Free) and it has 180 capsules. I started taking it and it is true, it lowers your blood sugars from the first pill you take and it keep your sugar level within the normal range like 103. If you have diabetes please try it. It works. Lluvia from WA
My mom has been using cinnamon capsules to control blood sugar for about 5 months now with dramatic success. The okra and bitter melon also sound very promising. Do you just use fresh okra and bitter melon or the extracts. If fresh how do u prepare it? Also what is the exact amount you took and for how long?
Did you lose weight? If you lost weight, that may be why the sugar came down.
Nobody ever answers the questions that are asked. Asking how much the writer took of anything is wasting time. Lluva's comment sounds like someone who owns or works for the company that makes Syntra5. Caution!!!!!!!
In Miracles from THE VAULT that I received about 2 months ago, the exact same formula that the email touts as DBX-13 is sold by Syntratech. It goes by the name Syntra5.
Hey Steviegirl! While I agree with those who said that this is a place for people to share their experiences and information (whether the info is accurate or not is always debatable!), I also agree that not using any punctuation makes it extremely difficult to figure out what the person who is writing in this manner is trying to say. I've seen this phenomenon on other threads also. I wish these folks could understand that when some of us ask for at least SOME punctuation, it's not so much that we're criticizing or trying to treat the site as a place for English lessons. It's really a compliment, essentially letting these these writers know that we'd really like to understand what they have to say but the punctuation-free writing style makes it difficult to benefit from their contribution. Something to think about? Thanks!
