Has anyone been prescribed this medication for back pain?
Hi. I have been on paxil for several years for depression, social anxiety disorder, and panic attacks. I was recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia. My psychiatrist changed me to cymbalta 2-3 months ago. Since that time I've only had one mild panic attack and my depression seems to be under control. I'm still experiencing lots of pain with the fibromyalgia, but I'm hoping that a few more months on cymbalta will help with that issue also.
I was wondering if anyone has changed from paxil to cymbalta and what the results were? I am currently taking paxil, lamictal, adderall. I want to get off of paxil and lamictal so bad, especially paxil. Any opinions or advice?
I had a reaction to Celebrex (hives) I wonder if it is because a took ambein at the same time.
I do understand what you mean, I also suffer from a condition that causes chronic pain, unfortunately for me, narcotics are the only choice, none of the others I tried like Cymbalta and Neurontin did anything for my pain.
verwon I am just starting med therapy for my FMS. I was trying to go without meds as much as possible. I have had so many meds perscribed to me over ten years ago for my FMS that i could not function. I stopped taking all meds and refused med therapy until i was perscribed cymbalta. It seems to be helping some. I am still in pain though. I am going to give this med a chance. I am tired of living in chronic pain daily. Cymbalta takes some of the edge off at this time. Praying it works even more as the med therapy continues.
For most people the side effects usually last about 2 weeks, it does vary a little from person to person, depending on your body chemistry, tolerance, and the other meds you are taking.
Since you are also on Remeron, you may get a double whammy, and have side effects that are a little worse and may last an extra week or so.
I have been on Cymbalta for 10 days on day 4 it eally took all my depression and darkness away ..however I have these spacey vertigo side effects that make me feel almost druggy ( I am also on REmeron for sleep problems) anyone else know if this happens to others or how long it will take to go away? I am on 30mg not sure if I should ask Doc to increase it to 60mg with these side effects?
Unfortunately, that is a common side effect of most anti-depressants of any type. This is an SSNRI anti-depressant, it has just also been shown to help relieve some types of nerve pain.
Here's the monograph listing, if you reaf the side effects listing, you will see that weight change is a normal one that many people experience.

Yes, I take 60 mg daily for back and leg pain. I have noticed however that I have started to put on weight. Is Cymbalta the cause of the weight gain?
Grace, I know several people with Fibro, via chronic pain message boards, who have had good luck with these types of meds. Since they work directly on certain types of nerve pain, they can help significantly in your type of situation. It will take between 2 weeks to a month, though, before you see results and know if it will help you. Have you tried anything else yet, like Neurontin or Lyrica?
I was just prescribed cymbalta today for my fibramyalgia. I am hoping that it is the one that works for me. I am constantly in excessive pain d/t my FMS. Will find out in a couple of weeks if this is the right therapy for me.
It is a time release medication, if you crush it, you can end up with too much of a dosage at once and you risk severe side effects as well as overdosing.
Wow Cindy, I am so glad you are getting good results from it. I tried it for awhile and it didn't help me with anything, not my depression, nor my pain, so I had to go back to my Zoloft and onto narcotic pain management.
That is the way these drugs work though, they do not work for everyone, because they are only effective on certain types of nerve pain.
On my bottel it says DO NOT CRUSH, TAKE WHOLE. What happens when it is crushed? Does anyone know?
Thanks, Wendell
Cymbalta
Cymbalta is a great drug, yes it is for depression but it is also for nerve pain. Almost no side effects until I also started Lyricia.
Those effects may wear off as your body adjusts to the new med, but itwill take about 2 weeks or so.
I had no results from Cymbalta for either pain or depression, anxiety and OCD, but it has provided good results for some people.
I just started taking cymbalta today and as you can see I can't sleep, feel all jittery, hyper and thirsty.I'm trying to get some relief from chronic pain and anxiety/stress is it worth staying on?
I have been on cymbalta for three weeks. I had a noticable improvement in my back pain within 24 hours. The Dr. recomends surgery requiring steel rods and plates. After being on the cymbalta for 2 weeks I have been able to stop taking pain medication. I have got more relief from cymbalta than I did from 3-4 darvocet per day. I also need a knee replacement, but the cymbalta has not helped the knee pain. My depression has also been helped. No side effects to date.
I have been on cymbalta for quite a while now and it did help some but I didn't get the results I was hoping for. It was prescribed for me for anxiety and I just feel tired all the time. I recently stopped taking it and I have electrical shock waves floating through my head everytime I move from a sitting position or turn my head quickly. I can't wait till it is out of my system.
I just started with my first dose today and I'm taking it for back pain and a bulging neck disc. Have been looking a medication to give me some relief.
I.ve been on cymbalta for 3-4 months now. No side effects I'm aware of and I take it along with a combo of other meds due to a spinal injury. This drug has helped a great deal for the pain I suffer. It is a pain reliever for some. My Dr. wanted to double the 60mg does but it's not approved yet for 120mg so my ins refused to pay, so I combo it with 800mg neurontin and i get thru the day. Good luck, I do recommend this drug for both depression and pain.
