Hi josie,

Based on my research, cortisone is a steroid hormone. It is one of the main hormones released by the adrenal gland in response to stress. In chemical structure, it is a corticosteroid closely related to corticosterone. It is used to treat a variety of ailments and can be administered intravenously, orally, intraarticularly (into a joint), or transcutaneously. Cortisone suppresses the immune system, thus reducing inflammation and attendant pain and swelling at the site of the injury.

To answer your question, I haven't heard/read anything about cortisone shots containing glass. The specific inactive ingredients can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, so if you're planning on getting one just post back and let me know of the manufacturer so I can do some more research. I've personally had a cortisone shot in my foot for a bad nerve, and it actually made the problem worse and my skin atrophied slightly. The only thing that fixed the problem was acupuncture. Everyone reacts to cortisone differently, but there are risks.

Local side effects are rare but can include: pain, infection, skin pigment changes, loss of fatty tissue, and tendon rupture.

You can learn more about this drug on the page for Cortisone Details

I hope this helps!
