Hello, I have an new Rx for contrave. I take wellbutrin 7.5mg BID. I took my last dose last night. When can I start Contrave? ## Hello, Jody! How are you? Unless your doctor or pharmacist has told you otherwise, it should be a clean switch from one to the other. You can't take them both, at the same time, in the same day, so the Contrave should take over when you are due for your next dose. The FDA warns that the typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, insomnia, nervousness, and anorexia. Is there anything else that I can help with?

I quit taking Contrave after a month because it made me so sick. How long after stopping the pills will the headache and nausea go away?? ## Hello, Jill! How are you? It may take a week, or so, for things to settle down and return to normal, according to the NIH. Did you experience any of the other side effects that the FDA lists, such as dizziness, nervousness, or insomnia? ## No, I really only experienced the headaches and nausea. Plus, I really didn't feel like the medicine lessened my appetite. Epic fail for me! Boo

Health is my goal and I need a kick start since I am 5'3 and weigh 275. I quit drinking soda, alcohol and binge eating. Still not 1 pound. I'm drinking a lot of water. Not excercizing so much yet. I was just diagnosed with Lupus. I want to shed about 20 pounds before I start excercizing. I haven't had many side effects. Quite honestly I feel like I am taking a sugar pill. Maybe this is not for me. Has anyone had luck with Belviq? Or Saxenda? ## Hello, Amanda! How are you? Every medication on the market works for some people, but not for all, that's just the nature of the human body, because we are all different. I could list many that have posted about having great results from each of the options you've listed, plus a lot that were disappointed in them. It is always...

Holly cow does this drug gives me crazy anxiety...like the worst anxiety I have ever had. It also makes me extremlyy irratable and out right mean. Im trying to hang in there too see if things change but so far Contrave sucks and im probally going to quit. Side effects too much ## Hello, Sesa76! How are you? The Bupropion in it has been known to cause those types of issues in some people that take it, according to the FDA. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and anorexia. I tried it once, about 10 years ago, for smoking cessation and had to stop taking it, because it make me feel like I'd drunk several pots of coffee, I was almost bouncing off the walls, so my doctor had me stop taking it, after just a couple of doses. There are other options you can try, ...

How to best space taking contrave, Example; 9am&9pm... Again , I want to know the best times to take apetite suppressant;contrave ## The best option in my opinion is to simply follow your doctors recommendation for the prescription they wrote you. However any adjustments to the time of day in which it is taken should be solely up to you based on how it affects you. Not everyone responds to these medications in a similar manner though - and therefore only you can be the best judge of when to take it through trial and error. If for example the doses are meant to be taken twice daily (but offer no other instructions), perhaps it would be a good idea to try taking it in the morning and afternoon for a week, then try morning and evening for the following week, etc, and sort of take an ob...

I have reached a plateau, would discontinuing contrave for a month then start over with it help? Lost 23 lbs first 3 months and now after 2 months have lost zero but I have not gained either. ## Hello, Sooz! How are you? Most people have reported having a plateau phase, but it eventually starts working, again. Thus, you should continue taking it, as prescribed, unless your doctor instructs otherwise. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and insomnia. Is there anything else I can help with?

I am on day 2 on Contrave. Yesterday I had bad stomach cramping, and then today after lunch I was hit with bad spell of diarrhea. For lunch I ate soup and salad. Stomach is still having bad cramps. Will this go away soon? How long will this last? Can I do anything diet wise to make it better? Can I take over the counter meds to help? Anyone else experience this? I am a teacher, and I'm worried if this will not go away in a few days, it may not be worth it having to constantly run to the bathroom all day. ## Hello, Aubbie! How are you? Side effects usually tend to be transient and go away, once your body gets used to a new medication, but that could take 3 or 4 weeks. As listed by the FDA, you may also experience headache, dizziness and insomnia. If your doctor approves, you might be...

I have been on it since February and I lost 37 lbs. in 2 months. Since then I haven't lost anything. Haven't gained anything either. Question is should I stay on it or stop taking it? Just wondering what others have done. ## Hello, John! How are you? Most people that take this medication reach a plateau phase, but in most cases, it does eventually start working, again. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, nervousness and insomnia. Have you consulted your doctor?

I've been taking contrave for about four months, and haven't had any side effects after the first three weeks except possibly for one: it seems like I have a men's tail cycle every ten days or so. My hormones are normal, thyroid is fine, and OBGYN sees nothing that would cause it. I saw irregular menstration listed as a possibility, but it's WAY down on the list. Has anyone else experienced this on Cintrave? Did it go away? ## It doesn't matter how far down the list it is, it is still a possible side effect that one may experience, when taking this medication. Some may be more or less common, but there's always a possibility of experiencing any of them. It is listed as having been experienced by 0.1 to 1% of women that have taken it according to the FDA, while th...

Please help. I've been on contrave 6 weeks and have had a few side effects but also muscle twitches everywhere. My main question is I have a bad metallic taste in my mouth. I can't even drink water. What should I do? Do I stop for a while? I'm desperate ## Hello, Mickie! How are you? That can be a side effect of the Bupropion that is in Contrave, you may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, nervousness and insomnia. If it is still lingering after 6 weeks, it may not go away and you may need to consult your doctor to try a different medication. Is there anything else I can help with? ## thanks, I have been on Contrave for 6 weeks now. I had a violent throwing up episode over Mother's Day. I was left with this taste ever since. I also have an infected tooth that is...

I have been taking contrive for 2 months. I haven't lost any weight on it as I cannot exercise because I need knee replacement surgery. How long before the surgery do I need to discontinue contrave? Even though I am not losing weight, I am feeling better....should I ask my doctor to put me on wellbutrin instead? ## @T, Usually surgeons will tell their patients if and when they need to stop taking a specific medication prior to an operation. My understanding is that this should be standard practice on the surgeons part, to at least ask if you if you are on any medications when you fill out forms on your initial visit. If this wasn't done, I would just encourage you to seek out their opinion asap since it's something they need to be made aware of in case of emergency (god forb...

Started Contrave 7 days ago. On the very first morning (2nd dose) I was so sleepy. Like exhausted-sleepy from shopping for 2 hours. The intense exhaustion seems to wearing off a bit, but there is something else. The dizziness is pretty bad, I'm disoriented, walk like I'm slightly drunk, have trouble focusing on anything. Like the buzzed feeling of being drunk, when you turn your head and your vision swims for a second? That's me. Has anyone else experienced this? It's annoying. How long do side effects take to wear off? ## Hello, Rose! How are you? Those can be normal side effects of this medication, as reported by the FDA, you may also experience nausea, nervousness and headache. Usually, the side effects should improve in a couple weeks, as your body gets used to a med...

Hand tremor started on four pill cycle. Does it go away when drug is stopped? ## Yes, it should stop, once the medication is stopped. Other side effects of Contrave, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, insomnia and nervousness. Are you on any other medications, or is this the only one you take?

Has anyone had any trouble with facial tics while on Contrave? I'm on my 6th week of Contrave taking 4 pills a day and 2 days ago I noticed that I had facial tics. It seems to get worse when I'm stressed. Will they go away? Should I stop the medication? I'm a dispatcher for a police department and the tics are making my job impossible! ## That can be a possible side effect of this medication, according to the most recent FDA information, you may also experience nausea, dizziness, nervousness, insomnia and anorexia. If it is that severe, though, you should consult your doctor as this might not be the right medication for you to take. Is there anything else I can help with?

Started today with first pill, wow, never been real sensitive to meds but this one, Contrave ,I was dizzy and VERY nauseous! Hope it's better tomorrow! ## Hello, Suzy! How are you feeling? Has there been any improvement? Those can be typical side effects of this medication, as reported by the FDA. You may also experience headache, nervousness and insomnia. Has anyone else that's taken Contrave experienced these side effects? ## Yes, as long as I eat a REAL meal, not a snack, then there is no nausea! I'm on 2 pills twice a day now and no side effects except some sleepiness!

I am on my second month of contract and have gained 7 pounds. I lost 65 pounds 6 years ago drug free, and maintained the loss. I got the contrave to get a push and loose 10 more. I usually eat 80% clean, only 1 soda a day. Since taking this drug, I am hungry all the time and crave fried, carbs and all else that is forbidden. I just realized I now drink 3-4 sodas a day. It truly has had the exact opposite effect that it is supposed to have. My ears ring constantly as well. I am going to wean myself off so I get back on track! ## Hello, Linda! How are you doing? I am sorry about the problem you've experienced. Unfortunately, there is always a very small percentage of people that experience the opposite of the desired effect of any given medication. There's no explanation as to why...

Many people have reported hitting a plateau phase, after being on it for a few months, but most have said that they do eventually start losing, again. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, nervousness and insomnia. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Yes, after 25 lbs. down I have hit a plateau. Very frustrating. Have added a little more exercise to boost my metabolism (hopefully). I track everything so I'm consistent. Have you found anything else that helps? ## Hi, I have been on Contrave a year n...

Has anybody taken Contrave with Xanax? I'm not at a point I would give up Xanax (1 pill a day) for Contrave, because of ongoing reasons .. but I have read several people say Contrave left them with terrible headaches and I have read benzos can be affected by Contrave (which Xanax greatly reduced my daily headaches). So, just curious if anybody has been on both and if so if they felt one counteracts the other or resulted in any other side effects? ## From what I'm reading in the FDA warnings is that it depends on how much Xanax you take, taking too much of it with the Bupropion in the Contrave creates a risk of seizures, so does suddenly withdrawing from it. Thus, if your doctor is willing to prescribe both, you have to be careful not to take a lot of Xanax and not to run out, wh...

Does it matter if I take Contrave before or after my meal? I have been taking it for a month now, but have had no success so far with weight loss. I take it after I eat, and I'm wondering if I should switch to take it before I eat. ## Hello, Bethann! How are you? From what I'm finding listed, they say it should be taken with a meal, which means just before you start eating, or while you're eating, unless your doctor instructs otherwise. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, nervousness and insomnia. Is there anything else I can help with?
