I'm unsure of the origin of my rash and hives. I'm at the end of week 3 of contrave. About 10 days ago, I fell on the basketball court and broke my foot and tore ligaments. I have an aspirin allergy (hives), so the ER doc was hesitant to prescribe 500 mg aleve, but I've taken OTC aleve and had no problems. Day 2 I broke out in a neck to ankle rash. I stopped the Aleve. Day 3 it was swollen and itchy. For a week I used Rx steroid ointment to get rid of the rash. Finally mostly went away. Didn't use the ointment for one day and I broke out with huge hives. Large 6" welts are all over me and much worse than the original rash. I can't imagine it's leftover from the aleve since it's a week later. I upped to 3 Contrave when I got the rash (but also started taki...

I have tried Contrave for two weeks now. While I did lose some weight I didn't feel very good. I started noticing that I was not able to think quickly like recalling names & somtimes when I would be talking my a random/ easy word would come out as if I was slurring my speech. So I stopped Contrave. Since stopping I have had pretty significant headache now for 6 straight days. Neither Advil or asprin seem to make it better. Was wondering if anyone else has stopped Contrave & experienced bad headaches? ## Hello, Meryl! How are you? I'm sorry about what you've experienced. I was just reading over the detailed side effects of Contrave, as listed by the FDA and it has been known to cause those, along with nausea, headache, mood swings, dry mouth and insomnia. As to the he...

I've been on this for about 2yrs now. I have lost 40 lbs and pretty much kept it off for that time. The last 5-6 months weight is creeping up. I know I am having trouble choosing healthy foods. The first year and a half I really had no desire to eat, let alone overeat. Has it completely stopped working? If so is there anyway to reboot so to speak? I really want it to keep working. ## what med are you taking that you feel you need a reboot so to speak ? ## Contrave is the weight loss med I have been using. ## Ok, I was not seeing what you were taking. Not familiar with this med sorry. Hope someone can help you. I do think with women we lose a lot of weight at first, then it tapers. I have had friends who then fail with their weight loss cause they are not losing fast enough. ## No me...

I have been taking Contrave for a couple of months now and this last bottle's tablets smell terrible. None of the other bottles have smelled like this. Also, it seems that the smell is getting worse as time goes on. Btw, the expiration date is late 2017. ## Hello, Susan! How are you? Yes, other people have commented about this, as well and many medications do have funny odors, or a bad taste, it's just that they are often coated to keep people from noticing. It makes me wonder if the coating has been thinner on some batches. Did you pick it up from the same pharmacy as before? The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, anorexia, nervousness, and insomnia. ## Yes, always the same pharmacy. I wondered if maybe it was an indication of losing eff...

Hello. Im a 39 year old female and 5 foot even. After the birth of my first son (18 years ago), I was disagnosed with hypothyroidism. I was put on medication and monitored my thyroid every 3-6 months. It was never a problem until I reached about 38. I used to run 6 miles every day-EVERY DAY! Then I just sort of felt burnt out, tired all the time. I always weighed in around 120, and when I just recently went to the doctor I was pushing 150! Thats the most I have ever weighed. He suggested that I try Contrave and exercise again and see if that would help in my weight loss. Im on the 3rd day of my fourth week and im up to 4 pills a day-two in the am and two in the pm. So far I have lost around 10 pounds. Its been about a week since I have lost anything. I havent really had to many side eff...

Hello everyone, I am a 23 year old female 5"4 and I started at 203lbs (the highest weight I've ever been) . I've been taking Contrave and Topamax together for 3 weeks going on for weeks in 2 more days. Honestly I feel great ! I use to have an uncontrollable obsession with food that literally took over my life... I was suicidal... I was unmotivated... I also had binge eating disorder. People don't understand that this is really a disease ! It is not to be taken lightly AT ALL. any way, I noticed I started eating less around the second week. I still had a few cravings but that obsession was gone ! So I took advantage of that and I started to the Mediterranean style eating. I make it a habit to walk every day , I drink more water , I'm finding hobbies , I'm more pro...

I am experience severe insomnia with contrave. I've just started my second week and I'm getting frustrated because I don't feel any difference in my appetite. My dr. Started my dosage at 1pill twice daily; so I've been on 3 pills now for a day. I really hope I start feeling some decrease in appetite soon. I am beginning to feel frustrated. ## Don't feel frustrated, have you started a diet or exercise plan with contrave also? If not, I suggest you at least start a diet. Also one of the main ingredients in contrave is bupropion, which is generic for Wellbutrin, Zyban etc.. It has been known to cause insomnia, restlessness, frustration and depression. It is basically a low grade form of a stimulant. This is why you are experiencing insomnia. You can't just to expect...

After finding no info about what the online doctor visit through the Contrave website entails I want to let anyone who is thinking about trying to go that route know about it. At 1pm I completed paying for everything. A few minutes later I received a text message saying it may take up to 2 days to receive a call from the doctor so make sure I was able to answer. At 7pm the doctor called. This is what she asked: -If I was on any meds, including OTC meds? (My answer: No) -If I smoke, drink or use recreational substances? (No to all) -When was the last time I took my blood pressure? (A week ago) -What was the reading? (110/70) -Have I ever had any blood tests? (Yes) -When and what kind of test? (6 months ago - CBC - (COMPLETE BLOOD COUNT)) -What were the readings? (Everything was normal) S...

I'm on my first day of the second pill of contrave I took my first dose at 10 this mornng and my second at 430. I can not sleep and i feel like i drank a pot of coffee. What time do you all recommend I space them out etc my bottle just says one in the morning and one at night. ## Hello, Kim! How are you? Those can be normal side effects of this medication, you may also experience nausea, headache and anorexia. Side effects are usually transient and go away once your body gets used to a medication, but it may take about 4 to 5 weeks. How are you doing, now? Has there been any change? ## I started Contrave a little over two weeks ago. I'm on 1/1 schedule now. I usually take the first pill at or around 9AM and the second between 6PM and 8PM. Weight loss is noticeable. I've lost...

Hi, I take co-codamol 30/300mg but want to start contrave. Are there serious side effects with this? ## Co-Codamol contains Codeine, as one of its active ingredients, so you do need to be in full withdrawal from it, before taking Contrave, because taking the Contrave too soon could cause you to go into dangerous precipitated withdrawals. The NIH lists these symptoms as possibly including nausea, dizziness, fever, chills, diarrhea, and rebound pain. What has your doctor advised? Are you on any other medications?

I just started taking Contrave and on day three I started having a terrible headache. I am on day four and want to know if I can take my Fioricet with the Contrave? ## Hello, Alma! How are you? There is an increased risk of seizures if you combine these medications, so it is best not to do so, without your doctor's approval, according to FDA reports. There is also a risk of liver damage, or failure. Have you tried anything else to alleviate the headache? ## My first day taking Contrave , My eyes felt funny and I felt anxious, Then my head started busting, I’m currently taking Trintellix 10 mg for depression and I can’t help but think these 2 medicines may not be good to take together, Help I can’t take my Fiorcet or Maxalt for my headache

I am having great results. I have been taking it for three weeks and have lost 12 lbs. I am at full dose 4 pills a day. I have this horrible bitter taste in my mouth like crushed asprin and I have this loud ringing in my ears. I can deal with the ringing ear but, the only way to combat the taste is to constantly chew sugarless gum. Do these symptoms subside? ## You didn't specify what medication you're talking about. ## I apologize I am on contrave. And I have this unbearable crushed asprin bitter taste in my mouth all the time. ## A change in taste can be a normal side effect of this medication, according to FDA reports. It can also cause other side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and anorexia. I've had some medications cause stuff to taste very sal...

I spent some time researching this before starting. I was a bit worried about the first 3 days as everyone said they were the worst. I started contrave 3 days ago. Day 1 I felt like I had more energy. My head felt "medicated". Not really foggy or unable to concentrate but a dull numb feeling. Nothing like I had read and prepared mentally for. I also made sure I ate pretty healthy - oatmeal for breakfast, egg salad sandwich for lunch, and dinner I wasn't really all that hungry so I had a few deviled eggs and corn on the cob. Didn't have any issues falling asleep at night. Day 2 - decided to try out a theory I've had that if you eat bad you feel bad/get side effects. So I had an egg and cheese biscuit with a soda for breakfast and had a dull headache started most of th...

I took contrave for four days. How long will it last in my system? I cant take the nauseous feelings. ## Hello, Meka! How are you feeling? It shouldn't take more than a few days. Did you experience any other side effects, which the FDA lists as possibly including headache, nervousness, and insomnia? ## I have all the bad side effects. I feel terrible like I'm on a bad acid trip. I wish this would get out of my system as I'm afraid to do my job ## How many days does contrave take to get out of your system? I’m having surgery and need to know the exact days.

I was on free 2 weeks of Belviq followed by 1 mo out of pocket Belviq. Lost and felt good with NO side effects at all. Then my doctor said she thought Contrave would be a better choice because it is just as effective, if not more, and cheaper...just 70 dollars a month. But, I have heart racing and feel agitated. I did not experience either with Belviq. I feel like calling my Dr. Back and asking to switch back and suck up the 200 mo. For Belviq. ## Hello, Jewels! How are you? Are you certain that Contrave is the correct name of the medication? Because it is listed by the FDA as containing Naltrexone and Buprenorphine, which is used to treat drug addiction, it is not used for weight loss. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects,...

Checking to see if I can take Contrave along with Buspar, Effexor, Metoprolol and Quinapril? I have put on weight and would like to try Contrave if there are no side effects with the above medications. ## Hello, Jeanne! How are you? No, according to FDA Contrave should not be taken with Buspar, since it can increase the risk of your experiencing seizures, and not with the Quinapril, because it can increase the risk of negative effects on your liver/liver damage. However, if you want to lose weight, there are other options you can discuss with your doctor. Your weight gain could be due to the Effexor, and/or Metoprolol, so it might be solved by simply changing medications. How much have you gained? ## I was on Contrave for about 6 months and I lost 70 lbs. I stopped for unrelated reasons...

I have had great success with Contrave! I feel bad for those that have had side effects and can't take it. My only question, (which my doctor could not give me an answer for) is: If in an accident, (car accident, God forbid).... what options would doctors have to control my pain if I actively taking contrave? And shoud I have some type of health notice in my billfold stating that I am taking this prescription? ## It is always a good idea to keep a list of your current medications, and medical conditions with you, in case of emergency. So, that is an idea you can't go wrong with, better safe than sorry. First responders can help you more, if they know what medications you are on and what medical conditions you are diagnosed with. Though normal doses of opiates may not work, while...

The first 5 weeks taking contrave I had no appetite. I dropped 24lbs in the first month and was only taking 1 pill twice a day. I just recently got a refill and it's not doing anything to decrease my appetite anymore. I upped to 3 pills a day still not working like it did the first month. Has anyone else have this same experience? If I keep taking it will it eventually decrease my appetite like before? ## This has happened to me and am looking for answers to this app can’t question. I am wondering if I got to complacent because the first few weeks seemed so easy. ## Many people have reported experiencing this, after awhile taking this medication, and the FDA does warn that it can happen. You may also experience other side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, and irrit...

I have been on this for about a month. I was only taking 3 a day. I didn't feel comfortable taking 4. So my Dr said that was fine. Then Friday night I felt done swelling in my throat, but that subsided after a couple hours. I went to bed, got up to go to bathroom and my legs felt really heavy. So I laid back down and in about 5 minutes later got up, same thing. I also started feeling very nauseous. Thought maybe I was coming down with the flu. Never got sick, just felt bad. Finally was able to sleep. Still feeling bad the next morning. Decided to take only 1 the next morning. Decided to check my bp at Dillons. I know they are not real accurate, but give me an idea. My bp was 150/89. Went to minor med. They checked it, it was 130/90. So a little high. I am on bp meds. Didn't take...

Have been prescribed Contrave but can stand pain but don't do nausea very well ## Hello, Clipscomb! How are you? It is a possible side effect, along with dizziness, headache, irritability, insomnia and anorexia, as listed by the FDA. How have you reacted to other medications? Do you usually experience nausea? ## I’ve never tried it! I’d love anything to get rid of nausea! I’ve been trying Emend which works well, but costs $20 for 3 pills!
