I noticed when I started taking 2 pills the ringing in my ears began. I tried upping to three pills because the doctor said that as my body gets used to the meds it will go away, but my nausea from three pills was so bad that I couldn't. So I dropped back down to two, then one, then stopped. I haven't had a pill in a couple days but the ringing is persistent. I'm not sure what to do at this point. I guess if I'm going to forever have ringing in my ears I'll just go back on two pills and lose weight. I don't know why ear ringing is listed so low in side effects though. I've seen a ridiculous amount of forums dedicated to this. Has anyone had luck with the ear ringing going away once they stopped?

It's listed in the side effects that you get with the medicine. Did you read it?

I have been off Contrave for 2 months. The ringing in my ears is ongoing and causing problems with concentration which is affecting my work (auditor). I have an MRI scheduled next Tuesday. I am absolutely in tears with the tinnitus. It is 24/7 and in both ears. I can even hear it over white noise machine and the fan I run at night. I can hear it over people talking. Contrave worked for me (lost 21 pounds). I had such hopes but I cannot deal with this side effect. I am just concerned now that I will have this ringing for the rest of my life.

I also started noticing a constant ringing in my ears after a few weeks on Contrave. I tried cutting back on them, but there was no improvement. I stopped taking them completely nearly a month ago, and still no decrease in the tinnitus. I'm trying to schedule an appointment with an ENT now, but I suspect that the damage is permanent.

I had no ringing until titrating up to 4 pills a day this week. Luckily, I only notice it at night when all is quiet and I am in bed. It makes me tired so sleep comes fast along with relief from the ringing. I will give it the 6 week test when side effects are supposed to go away after being on the recommended full dose. If ringing persists, I will go back to 3 pills. Although, I am super paranoid now after reading posts about it not going away even after discontinuing the Contrave. It's a shame if I have to stop because it helps tremendously with my weight loss, depression, anxiety, and insomnia. It has also allowed me to quit smoking and curbs alcohol cravings.

Me too!! I thought it was me. Started my first day on the medication.

The only other time I had this exact same thing was from too much codeine. My doctor told me what I was hearing was the blood running through my ears. I never took codeine again.

Now I have it with contrave. Losing weight so I’ll put up with it. No other side effects.

I have been scouring the web about tinnitus and Contrave. I was aware of the possible side effects, but in talking with the doctor everything seemed so positive. I have had great success on the medication (7 weeks/30lbs), but the ringing is killing me. The pharmacist said I could stop taking the medication so I did, but no relief. I have an ENT specialist appointment next week, but after reading everything online I am afraid/anxiety ridden this will be permanent. Any success stories of relief would be most welcomed.

I have taken 1 pill for 2 days and late on day 2 started with terrible ringing in my ears. I have read other people’s posts regarding this issue and I am now even more concerned. This medication is terribly expensive but I can’t take phentermine due to severe side effects and was nearly hospitalized! I cannot live with this moderate to severe ringing in my ears in order to lose weight. I just needed some help due to mobility issues and not being able to excersize. I am very frustrated.

I also have gone thru the early nausea and the heavy head feeling. The Tinnitus showed up after my first month in....its annoying. Plus I had it before due to heavy loud music.... it's worse with this drug. But I think I was good at ignoring it before so I'm also waiting it out. Staying busy and not staying inside my own head has helped....easier to say I know. The other side affects subsided when I took the pills with food and plenty of WATER....People that is really important! Eat fiber for the constipation....CHIA Seeds are awesome! Lost 20 lbs in the first 6wks :) and I never thought I could lose....I'm a hard case, mentally anyway.....I wouldn't stop this drug if I had to pay twice the amount. My goal is to lose 35 more before summerish 2018....that will be a total of 55 lbs in bout 6/7 months. I will try to repost here at that time.

I started taking Contrave in November. I became ill, upset stomach, diarrhea, and my ears started ringing. I stopped taking after a month and still have ringing in my ears. Is there any cure for the ringing?

Re: TT (# 8) Expand Referenced Message

I have been off the medication for over 6 months. I am now mostly deaf in 1 ear and still have constant ringing. It never went away. When the Dr gave me the list of side effects tinnitus was not on the list. I found out through the FDA.. Its likely my hearing will never return :C.. I'm not even 40 deaf in 1 ear with constant ringing from Contrave but I lost so much weight. So sad for 2 reasons... At least I have 1 ear and I lost 67 lbs but I cant lost all my hearing to lose the 85lbs I still need to lose. I have other medical conditions (hypothyroidism for one) which make weight loss a nightmare.

Tramadol is causing my ringing of my ears. Must be a common side effect of a lot of Pharmaceuticals as Contravene causes it as well. The part that worries me is even after going off Contrave I’ve read that it did go away. I am being weaned off my medication and the ringing is not going away.

I stopped taking Contrave last summer after I could no longer stand the ringing in my ears. Fast forward 1 year. My ears are still ringing. Am having to take medication to relieve the anxiety it causes. Some days are worse than other. Today I am at my wits end. I am an auditor and trying to concentrate is nearly impossible.

Today is the beginning of my third week taking Contrave; my dosage has now increased to 2 in the morning and 2 before bed. This morning was the first time I recognized the ringing. I'm one of those people who reads ALL the fine print and I immediately remembered that "ringing in the ears" was listed as a possible effect. I'm going to see my Doctor next week if it doesn't stop.

Re: TT (# 2) Expand Referenced Message

How long were you on it prior to this? I’ve been taking for three weeks and stopped because I noticed the ringing when I upped my dose last week. I’m hoping it wasn’t too long.

INSANE!!!! It's doing the same to me. I believe it's the antidepressant in it. The welbutrin did it to me forever. People think I'm joking when I say the ringing is in my head not my ears!!
