Contrave And Menstrual Cycle (preferably Women Only)

Hello everyone, I am a 23 year old female 5"4 and I started at 203lbs (the highest weight I've ever been) . I've been taking Contrave and Topamax together for 3 weeks going on for weeks in 2 more days. Honestly I feel great ! I use to have an uncontrollable obsession with food that literally took over my life... I was suicidal... I was unmotivated... I also had binge eating disorder. People don't understand that this is really a disease ! It is not to be taken lightly AT ALL. any way, I noticed I started eating less around the second week. I still had a few cravings but that obsession was gone ! So I took advantage of that and I started to the Mediterranean style eating. I make it a habit to walk every day , I drink more water , I'm finding hobbies , I'm more productive , I have on overall sense of well being , and to top it off I lost 13 lbs ! I'm motivated again ! I feel like a normal person ! I never thought I would actually feel like a NORMAL PERSON ! I DONT THINK ABOUT FOOD AT ALL. Except today ): yesterday was thanksgiving so I ate small portions and I didn't go for seconds (this is a first) but today I told myself I would only eat protein and salad but I kind of relapsed and ate some left over mac and cheese from yesterday and 2 pieces of garlic bread. ): (not exactly overeating but it was a cheat) is it just that I'm gonna still experience cravings during that T.O.M like normal ???

Hi Luna
My names Donna. I understand exactly what you went thru. I've been on contrave a lil over 2 months. I've lost 23 lbs so far. I've been experiencing an increase in my appetite and I'm hoping it's because I'm going thru pms and that my body has become used to contrave.
My doctor and contrave said to need to stay on for 16 weeks. If after 3 months not working then you stop.
Hi there...I've been taking Contave now for just about 3 weeks. Haven't noticed much difference Cravings are still quite prevalent and I'm still hungry all the time I'm hoping when I get up to the 4 pills/day this might finally stop? Also, my menstrual cycle is late, over a week now, which I never am unless I'm pregnant (which I'm not!), and I'm wondering if taking the Contrave could affect this? I'm ridiculously regular, right down to the 4th week after I had my 4 babies, even though I was breastfeeding 100%!! I feel terribly bloated as well, have been walking 3-5 miles/day 2-3 times a week and really watching my portions/intake of food. I've lost a whopping 2 lbs and am feeling rather discouraged. Any insight would be much appreciated. Some details about me...47 years old, 5'8", and currently at 170 lbs, my heaviest weight ever unless I was pregnant, and I only hit 177 with 1 of my pregnancies. Otherwise stayed right about 172-173 with the others and my starting weight with all 4 pregnancies was 152 lbs. my goal is to get back to 145, where I was about 4 years ago. Thank you
Hello I'm 31 year old female. I was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. doctor suggested I take contrave to lose weight. I weigh 187lbs. I took contrave for 2 days and couldn't handle the nausea or dizziness. I felt like a zombie. After I took the pill I had no desire to eat whatsoever. When I did eat. It was something small like a small salad and I would end up throwing it up. I stopped taking it after the 2nd day and I never looked bk. I feel like myself again however, my period has arrived yet. I've looked online and I've read other woman's experiences with this pill and most of their periods have been delayed as well. However, they were taking it weeks. I only took it 2 days. I'm 30 days late now. Negative pregnancy test. When will my cycle get bk to normal.
To be honest , you actually answered my question perfectly! That is exactly what I needed to know. And BTW I haven't experienced any side effects from the medication so far and I think it has alot to do with the Topamax the Dr prescribed with the Contrave. Thank you so much for your time !
Hello, Lina! How are you?
Yep, the medications don't shut off your natural hormonal cycle, so you can still experience those cravings. However, the good news is that studies reported by the NIH have found that having a 'cheat day' occasionally is actually a good thing, the people who do that tend to lose more weight and keep more off than those who try to always stay very strict with their diets.
The FDA lists the typical side effects of Contrave as possibly including nausea, dizziness, anorexia, insomnia and nervousness.
Is there anything else I can help with?
