Coming Off Invega Sustenna (Page 14) (Top voted first)
UpdatedHi,
I was given Invega Sustenna at 100mg a month for 10 months since Dec 5th. My last shot was on August 29th 2013.
The medication gave me severe anhedonia and I have lost the motivation and willpower to do anything. I can no longer experience joy, happiness, or pleasure from anything I do and I have no interest in doing anything. I constantly feel restless and uneasy and I just can't shake this feeling away no matter what. All of these started about a week after my first IV.
I have been off this medication for almost 3 months now and I have yet to feel any improvements. I have read that it has a long half life of 25-49 days and that it can stay in your body for 300 days. So does that mean I will have to wait a year to start feeling better?
Any info on someone who has been off this med would be greatly appreiciated. I am interested to learn how many months it takes to feel better after invega sustenna.
Thank you
Hi. I will share with you on what I've experienced and learned. Getting winged off invega sustenna is always less stressful than going cold turkey. If not, there's always activated charcoal which detoxes the body from bad chemicals or toxins in the body. Just don't want to take it with your vitamins 2-3 hours prior cause it will detoxify every chemical out your system. You don't want to take activated charcoal any longer than 3-4 weeks tops. Niacin aka vitamin b-3 comes in 500 mg and curves symptoms of schizophrenia. This is used in hospitals when someone has a drug overdose or chemical overdose. So far working well for my daughter who's dealing with this illness. She's taking 3000 mg daily, plus vitamin c 3000 mg which builds your immune system, also vitamin d-3 when your lacking outside sun which is good, b-12 which is good for the nervous system as gives you more of a positive mindset and mood. Oh yeah, a regular daily vitamin b-100 complex is good as well. Fish oil with omega 3,6,9 in it or even better - hemp seed sold at walmart in the baking aisle. Or you can do the oils off the shelf - avocado oil, sesame oil, flax seed oil, all sold in the baking aisle.
I have noticed the vitamin c 1000 mg and the niacin b-3 1000 mg does calm my daughter down when shes feeling aggressive and hearing voices. Plus b-12 in the morning. She does continue to talk to herself a lot but calmly and she does a lot of trying to remember and writing her thoughts down on paper which is comforting too. Also her mood is positive, laughing, smiling, but still foggy thinking, but she's ok. She actually tells me she's happy. And sometimes goes into her cleaning mode and wants to clean everything in the house and I let her but watch her closely depending on what she's using or trying to clean. One important thing I forgot to mention is making sure they're drinking lots of water which is important when taking lots of vitamins. Also staying away from the caffeine and sugary foods, milk, etc., cause for her this doesn't go well with her psychosis as it tends to flare it up. I'm not a dr but a parent whose dealing with this illness with my 19 yr old daughter. You can try it or keep taking the medicine these psychiatrists keep dishing out, which is killing us. I'm choosing to take my route especially after realizing it's all about money and keeping us unknowledgeable to the truth and damaging side effects of all these psychotic medications that is messing us up in in the long run. Yeah I know everyone reacts differently, but from what I've experienced hasn't been no good in any of it. What about the word cure instead of manage? That word doesn't even exist in their vocabulary so go figure. Personally I've lost all trust in the professionals. There are very few out there that know their stuff and really care about the well being of us as an individual and will take the time trying to look into things that can better us as an individual. Anyway this is for me and mine. Good luck and god bless.
Re: Sandh (# 238)
hi during this time that you recoverying start building up you immune system with vitamins ,niacin vitamin b-12, lots of vitamin c and b-12 good for the mood swings you'll get better but it does take time to come out of your system and 8 months is about right depending on the mg you were on and how long you were on the medicine so do yourself a favor and don't let these drs convince you that you have to be on these meds. to get better cause they will try to keep you on them and keep increasing your dosage as you go they like keeping us unknowledgeable to the real side effects we face down the road just saying
Thanks Ruth, are you giving your daughter 3000 mg naicin ??
Im slowly doing better especially when I take megadose of vitamin c
Its a nightmare nobody knows how long it takes to recover. The drug takes forever to come out of your system but taking one day at a time
How’s everyone doing? I’m almost at 9 months off still preety numbed, not much improvement
Wut a nightmare, I want to move out of my parents house when will I get back on my feet, and put this experience behind
Re: Sandh (# 240)
Hi. Just out of curiosity have you ever tried niacin before? And yes I give my daughter 3000 mg of niacin throughout the day with her vitamin c. Sometimes just 2000mg depending on how she's doing and when you said you take mega doses of vitamin c, how much is that in a day? Just curious. I just purchased some nature made stress b-complex tablets at walmart that seems to do really well with her stress level. It's got b vitamins + vitamin c & zinc. I also got her a sleep aid at walmart. It's new, it's called "Natrol" melatonin +5-htp in it. It really does good for sleep. The 5-htp in it helps the brain to relax at night which is good for her cause normally she talking all through her sleep so her brain is not relaxing but now it is. Well anyway, just thought id share this info with you. Maybe it's worth a try. Good luck. Hope you start to feel better.
Re: Sandh (# 245)
Have you found any meds thats helping with your memory? my daughters is still living in a fog and cant remember certain things she walks over to do something and she forgets what shes doing weve tried ginko biobla but im still looking for something a little more effective
My memory is slowly improving, I sleep fine that’s the only time I feel better and normal, also I dream at night and I remember my dreams in the morning. Memory is slowly getting better I guess. I read ginko can cause bleeding in the brain, try cogni q instead.
Re: concerned parent (# 257)
No Ruth I haven’t tried naicin yet, 3000 mg is good that’s how much dr abram hoffer took and recommended to his patients. Great work. I still have to order naicin once I take will let you know how it goes. I’m scared about the flush that’s why delaying. I’m guessing another 6 months of hell for me. Cause a lot of people after a year off are still affected and I’m only at 9 months. Chance of me getting better is around summer. I’m taking vitamin c 5000 mg in the morning and 5000 mg before bed which helps me get through the day.
Re: Sandh (# 259)
how is cogni q working for ya i might have to look into that one they did just come out with a meletonin with b-6 and 5-HPT in it it calm her right down and lets her sleep throughout the night its wonderful its at walmart
Re: Sandh (# 259)
Good morning just wanted to let you know that I looked into b-6, excellent stuff for the brain functions. It helps several neurotransmitters of chemicals that carries signals from one cell to the next. Good for brain development and functions. Helps the brain to make hormone serotonin and norepinephrine which influences mood and melatonin which helps regulate our clock in our brain. 1.3 mg of b-6 they say is plenty for anyone under 50 yrs of age. Anyway ill be getting some for my daughter. Just a little info.
Morning lovely, thanks for the suggestions. I will buy b6 and will take it. Today I laughed the hardest for the first time after almost a year joking with my mum, been a little bit playful. Things will change, I’m keeping my fingers crossed and will also start taking the supplements. I will be recovered coming summer and I will help you with your situation. Thank you for recommending b6. How’s your daughter? Maybe have her watch her favorite tv series or movies. I’m watching Twilight, and we are having a snow storm... beautiful day.
I have been off invega sustenna for over 2 years and have yet to feel better but every day is a struggle to find a reason to live. The only thing that really keeps me going is the thought of killing the ppl who made it and that still doesn't motivate me to get out of bed in the morning. Every day is a meaningless hell and u will likely never get better.
Re: Sunny (# 264)
Hey sunny, how many shots did you have? Are you taking any meds?
Re: Sunny (# 264)
I feel the same way as you. This drug and its effects can make me feel hopeless at times. I've been off it for 7 months and it's torture.
I’m almost 10 months off, no improvement. This is poison, injustice. That’s no way to treat people with the drugs.
Sunny, how is your memory? Can you function?
Has anyone come off invega and fully recovered and how long did it take you
Re: Johnny (# 268)
I’m reading a lot of people saying even after 2 years no improvement, do people recover from this. My life is over at only 31 years old. I'm finished.
Re: Sandh (# 260)
just out of curiousity does your vitamin C come in 5000 mg tablets cause mine are 1000 mgs and what exactly do you find that it does for you? i know its good for the immune system just curious
Re: Sandh (# 259)
Where do you purchase your cogni-Q and is there a particular brand that works well for you? The cheapest one I found at Walmart was $10 on up to $30... and how long before you started noticing your memory coming back?
Re: Sean (# 270)
do you use a b-complex or and particular b vitamin? and the HTP do you use it as one or is it mixed in with something else? and how often do you use the htp?
