Combining Two Types In Of Propanalol
UpdatedI have been taking 80mg Propanalol ER capsules once a day for several years now for mild hypertension and anxiety. Lately they have not been working so well and my blood pressure readings are slightly increased, so my GP is keen for me to increase the dosage. Because I am quite sensitive to some effects or changes in meds, she feels it would be better to do this gradually with small increases to allow me to get used to the changes. However, Propanalol ER do not make a Low dose ER capsule a little higher than the 80mg but a whopping jump to 120mg! She has consequently given me a prescription for Propanalol 10 mg instant relase tablets to add in ,but to be taken part way through the day and not at the same time as the 80mg ER capsule which I take early morning as I get up around 7am. I am very concerned that adding a tablet with an instant release effect to an ER Capsule will cause me to have blood preassure spikes both up and then down. Surely that can't be good for me? Please help as I am worried because I know she will gradually want to increase the dosage over time too. Thankyou!

There is no real danger in taking 2 different forms of a medication. But you should monitor your blood pressure, to be careful it doesn't drop too low.
The FDA does warn about that, when taking them both, you may also experience other side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, and headache.
Are you on any other medications?
Sometimes multiple doses are prescribed to help get someones blood pressure under control as safely, and as fast as possible.
