I'M HIV positive and and my 9 months old baby is negative, at the clinic they use to prescribe nevarapine and Resmed Co-Trimoxazole Oral Suspension and they gave me Ilvitrim Suspension. Is it Ok? Because she has flue and ever she seems to be very weak and not eating well. ## Yes, it is the same medication, just under a different name. It is an antibiotic and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. antibiotic ## Contrimoxazole is a common misspelling for what's known as "Co-trimoxazole". I have about 8 of the sulfameth/trimeth that were left over. I've had a horrible sinus problem for years and my Dr wont give me antibiotics, only gives me Fluticasone. Looked up my nostril once that's it. Fluticasone is useless. Very thick mucus, smells bad. Green, yellow, even kinda gray. Maybe I need a specialist I don't know but I will try anything to get rid of this. I have to blow my nose so hard I'm afraid I'm gonna have a stroke Lol. Hello, I'm taking an antibiotic for bronchitis. The active ingredient is Co-trimoxazole. I was wondering if there may be interactions with birth control pills? Thanks ## Hello, Naraka! How are you? If you're taking a contraceptive that contains a form of estrogen, such as one of the combined oral ones, then yes, it can lower the efficacy of them and there have been instances were women got pregnant, due to taking antibiotics, so it would be best to use a backup method of contraception, until 7 days after you have finished the antibiotic. Side effects to the Co-Trimoxazole may include nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

I am prescribed this drug for recurrent middle ear infection. Do I still need to drink plenty of water taking this medicin? ## Hi Pratik D, I would just recommend listening to your body and staying hydrated throughout the day as needed. However, drinking a gallon of water a day is usually adequate for most individuals who are active and require more hydration. The instructions for taking this medication note the following: "Co-trimoxazole comes as a tablet and a liquid to take by mouth. It usually is taken two times a day but may be taken up to four times a day for severe lung infections. Drink a full glass of water with each dose."
