Clonidine Ear Ringing And Numbness Side Effects
(Newest replies first)
Updated
I have been on 0.1 clonidine now for several years. Recently i have been getting very high spikes. My doctor increased me. I was taking 0.1 twice a day. I now take 0.4 split up into 3 times a day. I am now experiencing very loud ringing in the ears / hissing sounds with a numbness feeling in my head. At times it is so bad it debilitates me to where i cannot do anything. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? It is driving me crazy and cannot function like this!

Re: djackstecher (# 17)
Hello djackstecher I am also getting many side effects of Clonidine as you are with the numbness and tingling but I was prescribed it for very high blood pressure I too had panic attacks even before developing blood pressure problems I just wanted to write in that besides my stomach problems I too got headaches and developed numbness in my hands and also in my feet along with an increase of ringing in my ears and a strange feeling in my head and unfortunately it affected my digestion in a very bad way with constipation and a lot of stomach pains I understand when a person has anxiety they can also get pains in their upper stomach and I feel at least for myself this is not a good medication for anybody with anxiety or resistant hypertension as myself but as I said the headaches and agitation are worse on this medication or at least for myself I also have an extremely dry mouth on it and I feel that it completely dehydrates you over time I am now drinking Pedialyte clear and am having a very hard time with this winning process as it also causes insomnia which I already had to begin with I hope you do well and I would not worry so much about rebound since you were not put on this for blood pressure problems I think it's much more serious to wean off this medication when you have existing blood pressure problems Please take care and be well I hope this helps
Re: jewels (# 13)
Hello Jewels I see your message was from a few years ago I too am on 20 mg of Lisinopril twice a day and 0.1 Clonidine three times a day. It made me so sick after two months and I didn't realize it was the Clonidine I got severe stomach cramping and agitation I am down to 1/2 of the 0.1 tablet three times a day still on the 20 mg of Lisinopril twice a day I feel so sick with random pain in my finger joint and still cramping in my stomach One day I skipped Clonidine and my stomach pain went away but I had a severe blood pressure spike and my pulse went up to 106 so I had to go back on on half a pill three times a day I also have severe constipation from being on it as I did not have this problem until I went on Clonidine It's a very scary situation and feeling because I have diverticular pockets and I'm not supposed to get constipated The only thing I can explain after 10 months of being on Clonidine I feel very sick and it only brought my blood pressure down for a few hours at a time I must get off Clonidine It feels like my insides are so raw and burning and I was recently diagnosed with erosive esophagitis that I believe was brought on by Clonidine If anyone can give advice on how to get off safely and if this agitation and neck pain and anxiety is part of the weaning process and how long until it goes away
I've been on Clonidine for roughly a year and a few months ago I developed the worst ringing in the ears I could imagine, as well as other side effects such as numbness and tingling in my hands and feet, headaches, rapid heartbeat... I saw a post that was similar, but it's years old and wanted to reach out and see if there's anyone currently experiencing this, if they tapered off and what that was like? Please help, this has been seriously affecting my mental health as I have horrible anxiety and depression as it is which these symptoms are seriously exacerbating.
I've been having the same exact side effects as you and others, and also feel absolutely terrible after about 8-10hrs after dosing which of course just makes the horrible ringing in the ears continue. I was taking .1mg three times a day for awhile and the ringing was so bad it was actually really scary, tapers to two a day and it's diminished a bit but is of course always there. I understand there's a fairly long process to totally wean off and the high BP spikes scare me as I have anxiety and panic attacks as it is. My doc didn't even prescribe it to me for bp either, but for anxiety. I freaking can't stand the American Medical system. Docs just seem to throw these drugs at you without even knowing all of the adverse side effects, while simultaneously withholding the drugs that actually work. It's made my anxiety so bad and heart feel so off at times I'm afraid to smoke cannabis anymore which I love and has always helped my anxiety.

Please do not put your freaking conspiracies on things like this, people need legitimate answers, not bulls***.
Yes I’m experiencing those exact symptoms now from taking clonodine
Re: HBP Guy (# 1)
yes, i have realized that when the clonidine wears off the BP spikes. I am trying to wean off it now but it is not easy. I am sorry i even started it. I am hoping that when i do get off it my head problems will go away. My body craves it like a narcotic now and get withdrawal symptoms when i don't take more.
Re: jewels (# 11)
So very sorry you are still having trouble with these meds. The dose I was taking was the smallest available and during the tapering process I would cut the pills in quarters and taper down by 1/4 every week or so. My side effects were multiple choice: rapid heart beat, anxiety, nervousness, leg cramps, ringing ears, appetite loss, constipation. The dose you are taking is larger than mine was and will probably take longer for your system to adjust. /Just remember - things WILL GET BETTER and you will GET BACK TO NORMAL! Best wishes--
Re: Patty (# 7)
Has the ringing in your ears and hissing stopped after you quit taking the clonidine? I am trying to wean off but it is very difficult. What side affects did you get weaning off?

I have been on clonidine since 2003. I'm taken 0.2mg. Half in the am. And half in the evening. For along time I have been having ringing in my ears and hissing sounds, sometimes so loud its disturbing. I also take generic Norvasc and Benecar generic. I never thought it good be the clonidine that caused the ringing in my ears.
Re: Patty (# 7)
How much were you taking when you weaned off? I take 0.1 1/2 three x a day.
Re: Jewels (# 6)
You are right - you must wean off clonidine gradually. As I recall it took me 2-3 weeks to get off completely. At that point BP spikes stopped but other side effects continued for a while longer.Best wishes to you.
Re: Patty (# 5)
Yes, I get BP spikes when it wears off...I hate it. My ears ring and head buzzes loud, sometimes louder than other times. I hear you just can't stop taking it. Asking the Dr for something else next week, maybe I can wean off it. I take 40 mg of lisinoprol a day along with the clonidine now. It also makes me so very tired. I take clonidine 3x a day, more if I get spikes.
Jewels- I was on a low dose of clonidine for approximately 8 months. I was told that long term use of this drug can actually cause BP spikes and sure enough it did with me. My doctor said it was not the first drug of choice for HBP because of this problem. She immediately took me off it.
Re: HBP Guy (# 1)
My mother took this briefly...took her off because of the horrible aide affects. A nurse told us this medication was originally for mental patients! You should try CBD oil. My mother is now totally off BP meds and on CBD and not only is her BP down better than it’s ever been, but she feels so much better. I’m not a doctor, I’m just telling you it works for my mom.

Yes, you are right...most people have no clue about smart meters and cell towers and how we are literally being microwaved. Hopefully people will research it and become informed. Thanks for telling the truth.
It’s the metals in the binders and you must be next to 5G towers or have smart meters and being messed with remotely and have your house being turned into dirty electricity ! A lot of evil crap is going down do not turn to pharma anymore get off everything

I started taking Clonidine 0.1 mg three months ago for occasional blood pressure spike to 160/105 (I believe I have panic attack or anxiety disorder). Now I am taking taking 0.1 mg twice daily to keep my bp in range (120/80+). Still I will have bp spike once a week and I have to take additional 0.1 mg to bring it down. Dry mouth, ear ringing and low energy are the side effects I've been getting.
