Taken clonazepam for 12 years 2mg 3 times a day for anxiety? Are they addictive? What happens when I do stop them? I was told that I can just stop at anytime.

Hello, BL! How are you?

Yes, Clonazepam are a benzodiazepine, so they can be habit forming and, if you've been taking them 3 times a day for years, then no, you can't just stop cold turkey. That creates the risk of seizures due to withdrawal, as well as other withdrawal symptoms, such as headache, diarrhea, irritability, nausea, anxiety and insomnia.

To stop taking them, it would be safest to do a very slow taper, such as gradually lowering your dosage, while skipping doses, but only your doctor can help you decide the safest method for you.

Are there any other questions or concerns?
