I started clindamycin about 30 hours ago. Before I got it my wisdom tooth was hurting excruciatingly, and I had a bit of swelling. After taking it, the pain is pretty much gone, but the swelling has gotten worse. My question is; does the swelling usually get worse at first after taking this medication? And about how long before it improves? I'm very nervous. I always think the worst. Lol. Any answer would help. Thanks. ## The general rules for an antibiotic are that, if it is working, you should not see any worsening after taking it for a full 24 hours, and you should start to see improvement after taking it for a full days. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. Has there been any change, yet?

Was sick with sinus infection and a doc gave me a script for 3 (150) mg clindmycin caps 3 X a day. I am feeling better now and looking at the amount of pills I have left, it seems an extreme amount of pills. ## Even if you are feeling better, you should finish the antibiotic, as prescribed, to make sure that the infection is completely cleared up. Normally, they are given at the 3 a day dosage for between 10 to 14 days, depending on the dosage and just because you may be feeling better, there could still be remnants of the infection lingering in your body. Not finishing the prescribed amount could result in your developing antibiotic resistant bacteria and the infection returning and being more difficult to treat. Are there any other comments or questions? ## My friend gave me like 10 b...

I have an abscess tooth and was given Clindamycin about a month ago and finished it. Now the swollen face and pain is back and I have a prescription from 10/2013. Is it still good? And safe to take? Can't get into the dentist till next week. ## Hi Paula, If it were any other drug-class I might feel differently about how I answer this question, but when it comes to expired antibiotics specifically, I wouldn't encourage anyone to chance it. Because even if it is still good to a degree, the possibility off developing antibiotic resistant bacteria is always something you have to keep in mind... and the problem is that there's really no feasible way to know for certain if or how much it could've degraded since the expiration date. Have you considered looking into any other po...

Hey, I was prescribed Doxycycline to treat Impetigo. That worked a little, then I was prescribed 300mg of Clindamycin. My question is will this knock out the skin rashes and fluid filled scabs? ## If it has been prescribed for you, the only thing you can do is try it and see. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. Have you taken it? If so, was there any improvement?

Can the green and blue pill marked with c 39 be used for a kidney infection? I think I might have a bladder infection. ## It is manufactured by Aurobindo Pharmaceuticals and they list as containing 150mgs of Clindamycin, which is an antibiotic that can be used to treat various types of infections, but it may not be the appropriate one to eradicate the bacteria that has caused your infection. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. Did your doctor prescribe this to treat your infection?

Hello I have some liquid Clindamycin from 2 months ago and I was wondering if it was still good? About how long is the shelf life of this product? ## Hello, Melliss! How are you? What is the expiration date on it from your pharmacy? Liquids tend to degrade faster and usually have a very short shelf life, anywhere from 10 days to a month, in many cases. ## I have an ear ache. Hello, I have a 1 year old clindamycin phosphate gel tube that I am considering using. My acne is acting up and I would like to know if it will still be effective if I use the gel one year later? Please advise. ## Hello, Melissa! How are you? It does not become dangerous, once expired, but it can start to lose effectiveness, so it would be best to see your doctor for a new prescription. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including skin redness, irritation, peeling, and dryness. Is there anything else I can help with?

I am taking Clindamycin for a wisdom tooth infection. It works great yet I want to forewarn any women who may decide to take it. It gave me a nasty yeast infection. I am talking about swollen lips, itchy, dry, very uncomfortable to sit for long periods of time. It seems most antibiotics help with one thing and cause other problems. Clindamycin breaks up proteins down there and it causes yeast to grow. If your doctor prescribed you this, get yourself some OTC (over the counter) yeast infection treatment when you go and get the meds from the pharmacy. ## That can be a normal side effect of most antibiotics, in both men and women, although of course for men, the yeast infections are usually only oral. If you are prone to getting them from any particular antibiotic, it is always a good idea...

My daughter is sick and I have some liquid clindamycin in my cupboard not refrigerated. Can it last more than 3 months? ## How is your daughter doing? Has there been any change? What symptoms is she experiencing? This is an antibiotic, so even if it were fresh, it is only effective at treating bacterial infections. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea.

Hi. My doctor prescribed me a one-month course of clindamycin 150mg for a tooth infection and I took it for 10 days. My pain went away. Is it okay if I stop taking the med or do I have to finish the course? ## Hello, Ling! How are you? You should always finish the full course of treatment, as direct by your doctor, unless they instruct otherwise. Stopping early creates the risk of your developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

What can I do to stop or take to stop the diarrhia from taking Clindamycin 150. I have 3.5 days left and have had diarrhia for the past 4 days. ## Hello, George! How are you? That can be a normal side effect of most antibiotics, as reported by the FDA, you may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, and non-allergic skin rash. I just got switched from penicillin to clindamycin 300 mg 3 times a day. My face wasn't puffy and huge like it is now at first. I have started taking it on the 14th. Is this normal for the face to swell up like this and my gums before it kicks in & flu like chills and 100 degree fever? I called the ambulance twice and they said I should call my dentist as soon as possible and I am. I kinda want to wait and see if the antibiotics will kick in or just go back to the ER? I have received 300mg clindamycin for exudative tonsillitis. I was told to take 4 a day for 10 days. I am on day 2 and have yet to feel any less pain. My throat is very inflamed and my voice is gone. How long does it take for the pain to start going down? ## Hello, Syd! How are you feeling? Has there been any change, yet? The general rule for antibiotics is that if they are working, you shouldn't see any worsening of your condition after taking them for a full 24 hours and you should start to see improvement after taking them for a full 3 days. I took 300 mg of clindamycin, 3 times a day for 8 days. I finished it 2 days ago. Towards the end, I had a day or two of loose stool. So I went on the internet to read about the side effects of clindamycin. And now I'm very scared. Many people seem to get C. Difficile infection during or after the period that they took clindamycin. The dentist who prescribed it and the pharmarcist didn't mention this risk to me. Is this risk very likely? What can I do to minimize the risk? Thanks. ## Diarrhea is a normal side effect of most antibiotics, including Clindaymycin, according to the U.S. FDA and the NIH. Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, and non-allergic skin rash. It should go away, in few days, since you've finished it, if it does not, or if it worsens,...

5 weeks after taking Clindamycin for a strep infection of my finger, I am having all over itching and a constant headache that is not alleviated by Advil of Hydrocodone, and is keeping me from sleeping at night. I took a probiotic inbetween Clindamycin capsules but it did not prevent this reaction. I'm still taking a probioti; perhaps not the most effective one. I need to hear any solutions from other people this has happened to. ## Hello, Traci! How are you? It is not typical for such side effects/reactions to linger that long after finishing your course of treatment. Typically, they go away within a week, or 2, according to FDA reports. Have you consulted your doctor to have this checked out? There might be something else going that requires medical treatment.

i use it to treat MRSA. Clindamycin 150 mg. i am on my 5th day course now. But i forgot to take it on time. It´s just like two hours delayed. i should have take it 5pm but i remembered it 7pm already. Is there a big chance that i will be resistant/or the bacteria will be resistant to that antibiotic? what should i do? ## No, if the different was only 2 hours or so, there really shouldn't be any problem, at all. Even when being used to treat MRSA, antibiotics don't have to be taken at precisely the exact same time, the object is really just to keep them consistently in your body, so taking them a little later or earlier is fine. Can I take Clindamycin 300mg to treat bronchitis? ## Hello, Bruce! How are you? Yes, this is an antibiotic that can treat various bacterial infections, so it's fine if your doctor prescribed it for you. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. However, if your doctor hasn't prescribed it, then you shouldn't take it, because many cases of bronchitis are caused by viruses and antibiotics will have no effect on them. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I read my bottle wrong and I've been taking clindamycin every 4 hrs when I was supposed to take it 4 times daily. Will I be ok?

Hi my name is Sharon and I got bitten by a spider I believe while visiting my daughter in an area where spiders are more prevalent. I ended up hospitalized and getting MRSA from this. The doctors told me we have staph and MRSA all over our bodies and the least little cut can cause MRSA or Staph to enter the body. Especially under the layers of our skin. I was so afraid to go to the ER for this because it was so bad, it started out small with 2 little holes on the raised part of the area. But my doctor called me in amoxicillin to fight this infection. I knew it was infected because it got very red, hard to where if I touched it it left my finger imprint in my skin. It started spreading and getting larger before took the amoxiclllin, this antibiotic softened the area relieved much pressur...
