I started taking Citilopram just three days ago and I can't believe how much its affected me. My movements are shaky and jumpy, I can't keep still in bed and I feel almost drunk the whole time. I'm on 20mg but I'm not sure I can function like this!
I am so tired I'm barely able to get out of bed; luckily for me I have a very understanding boss who doesn't mind me coming in late but I just feel horrid.
I was on Fluoxitine for nearly 2 years and it didn't help so I understand that I need a higher dosage of a stronger pill but is this really worth it???
Don't trust anyone who says side effects will go away in time - they didn't with me. One year after starting citalopram and I'm far worse in every way than before I took it - depressed, anxious and emotionally numb with other permanent damage too. Emotional numbing has wrecked all my relationships, my job and home. DON'T TRUST ANYONE - I'd have stopped taking it after day one if I'd known ; my life Is wrecked by thIs DREADFUL SSRI.
Emotions are needed for EVERYTHING. You don't realise how important they are until they're gone- apart from the obvious things normal people enjoy I can't even feel the passage of time. It's all very, very scary - as bad as waiting to die- believe me.
Hi
Its common to have these side effects . Usually gets better in few days. In 4 weeks you will start feeling better
It is a side effect but as it gets in your system that should go away. I have been on 40 mg for a long time and I don't have any problem with it now. It's been about 7or 8 years ago that I started. Give it some time.
Citalopram is an antidepressant, that is also used to treat several other disorders, including anxiety.
And yes, these side effects are all normal symptoms that can occur when you start taking it. They should start to taper off after a few weeks, when your body adjusts to the new medication. If they don't or get more intense, you will need to speak to your doctor.

Is there anything else I can help you with?

My experience on Celexa has been far from pleasant. I started taking it about five months ago after being on Lexapro for 4 years. The first few weeks of being on Celexa I had zero appetite! I had to force myself to eat. I felt good, had energy, and thought it was my cure all. Slowly but surely I have suffered a lot of side effects that I didn't realize were from Celexa.
I am a very active person. I have a master's degree in exercise physiology so I'm well aware of when something is going on with my physical fitness or body in general. I was running about 100 miles per month, lifting weights three times and week, and biking twice a week. I was very fit, lean, and energetic. The last few months I have literally done nothing outside of my apartment except work, exercise, go to the bank and grocery store. I feel very dull and unmotivated, the complete opposite of who I really am.
I have had sinus issues for 3 months straight. I rarely take antibiotics but ended up taking 2 rounds without any luck. I have to take allergy and sinus medicine every day to be able to breath through my nose. I started researching what the side effects of Celexa. I was SHOCKED at all the side effects that I am experiencing. I'll give a short list of the things that i have been dealing with !
Sinus infections, tingling in hands and feet, anxiety attacks (i usually have 1-2 per week), headaches, congestion, cough, tiredness, no motivation, lack of emotion, no sex drive, etc etc etc. i feel so awful!
im taking citalopram 20 mg for three days now, my question is: is it better to take the medication in the morning or before going to bed? i do get really shaky and feel like i cant stand still. you think is because the pill or is it just me? how long is it going to take for the pill to make me feel better, i feel i got worse.
Hi Patti here, I would say give it a couple of weeks,if no change call your Dr. As I said I am on 40mg. And I have not had a problem with it Hang in there! That has been about 8-9 years and still taking it ,works fine for me but everyone is different Best of luck.

Took Citalopram for 2 weeks. On the 2nd day after I was instructed to take 2 tablets, I noticed a strange "weak" sensation all over my body. Started in my hands and feet and spread along my limbs to my entire body. I could no longer hold th3e steering wheel or accurately press the gas. My body simply would not listen to my commands. The more I tried the worse it got. I pulled over called 911 and went to emergency. I had No Clue!!! That it was from the citalopram. Doctors called it "Parkinson's like Syndrome" told me to avoid SSRI and MAOI as they might react badly for me. It was the scariest medical scare of my life. It lasted approximately 72 hours, the worst being gone by 32 hours.
