I am absolutely convinced that Aurobindo citalopram works much much better than Amneal. Since they work better they also give you more side effects, which is why I think some prefer Amneal or other brands. We are being sold a bunch of lies when insurance companies say that generics are all just as good as brand name drugs. All generics don't even work the same.

Yes, I found the same effect.
As a note, I have just found out that TEVA has discontinued production of citalopram.

Yes I am
Having the same issue. Have been taking the oval IP citalopram for years and it worked great for me. Walgreens just switched to the MX32, manufacturer Mylan, the round tablet and I have been very emotional ever since.

I have been on Celexa (citalopram) for many years. I noticed that I was getting angry quicker, depressed really easy, more tired, like it wasn't really working and I couldn't take more as I am maxed out at the 40mg. When I went to pick up my refill, I asked the pharmacist if they had changed manufacturers and they had. I tried it for another month and the same symptoms got worse. I changed to a different pharmacy and they had a different manufacturer and that brand worked like the old one. My husband is a BioChemical Engineer and when I shared my concern with me, he told me that it could absolutely be different even with the same generic ingredients/molecules but he said the difference comes that each manufacturer's shape of the molecule could be different and your body may not recognize that different shape. He gave me an example of a medicine that has say 5 ingredients. Some put them together in a zig-zag pattern, another might have the last ingredient turn back towards the first one. I was getting back to "normal" when our insurance no longer allowed us to use CVS so back to Walgreens I went. Same thing happened again. My doctor and I tried to get the brand name but insurance won't cover it. I called the pharmacist and explained the situation and he ordered both manufacturer brands for me to try that had worked in the past. The pharm tech told me no they wouldn't do that when I asked months ago, but my nurse told me to talk to the pharmacist personally and he was more than willing to help. Hope this helps!

I had no issues with the Amneal Citalopram, but I did with the Aurobindo brand Citalopram. Mylan Citalopram caused me to feel out of sorts more than the Aurobindo Citalopram. You can ask the pharmacy manager where you get your prescription medication from to order the Amneal brand Citalopram. I work for Walgreen's, so I asked the pharmacy manager to order the Amneal brand Citalopram and she did.

Wow. So amazing to read all these stories. I have been on Dr. Reddy’s from Walmart for many years. Now it seems like that manufacturer is no longer available. I have tried several different pharmacies and no one seems to be able to get it. The company website, however, still lists it.

Has anyone else had trouble finding Dr. Resdy’s? I have sent them an email and will hopefully find out what the issue is.

Walmart is now using Aurobindo. First pill I took, I got a terrible headache, my ears were ringing loudly, and had trouble falling asleep. Now I’m feeling it more body-wide... I just feel “off”. I’ve picked up another generic from Walgreens and may try that instead.

This stuff really sucks. I wish the medical community would recognize that not all genetics are the same!

I’m having the same issue. Dr reddys was the only one that worked for me and I just emailed them too. Did they reply to you? Have you been able to find it?

You are lucky you survived! My son was taking this same med and had similar side effects. He took his meds one night, went to bed, and didn't wake up again. Be aware. All the pharmaceutical companies care about are their profits. Any deaths that occur are considered statistically acceptable loss.

Susan here again. After two people at my pharmacy telling me that Aurobindo citalopram was no longer being manufactured and no longer available, the head pharmacist put in the order again and it came through fine. He also told me that he didn't think it would be a problem getting it in the future. I can't figure out on what he is basing that opinion!

By the way, the only way my pharmacy will order this brand at all anymore is if I pay for the whole cost myself--my health insurance will no longer pay for it at all because it isn't the cheapest generic, which is the only brand they will cover.

It seems that different people's chemistry react differently to different generics. With any SSRI there may be side effects. Sometimes those side effects lessen or disappear after a few weeks, but if not and a different generic has fewer side effects for your particular chemistry, I hope you can switch back.

really glad I found this thread, my Citalopram has changed this month from Generics UK to Aurobindo and I felt like I was back to square one! I know things fluctuate and change, but I felt so much better on my previous brand and yet after a week of aurobindo I actually feel worse than I did when I first started on citalopram! Will make sure I change back to Generics UK when my script is renewed!

TEVA WERE terrible, I was anxious, crying and a real mess. Sandos weren't too bad. Bristol weren't any good either. Aurobindo are the only ones that seem to work. I do wonder what other manufacturers are any good?

yes, I have a big problem with this. been on Citalopram for years and suddenly been given a different brand and I cannot cope on them. I am extremely tired and miserable, where as on my regular ones I cope really well and they are very effective. I am trying to find a picture of the box of my citalopram on the internet and see who the manufacturer is so I can show it to my GP.I was on ones in an orange and white long packet 20mg, if you know the brand let me know

I've done more research and think the ones that work have croscarmellose sodium in them. Amneal doesn't, which makes it less able to deliver the active ingredient to your system.

I have felt horrible after they switched me from Amneal to Mylan. I have headaches, chest pains, lighted headedness and vision has been crazy. Now no one is carrying this manufacture. I'm at a loss!

Been on Amneal for a year and became a "normal" person. In late October 2015 Walgreens (US) switched me from Amneal to Mylan. In the past four weeks i've started night sweats, sleeplessness, unpredictable bouts of anxiety, mindless eating, brain fog. Having trouble checking my child's multiplication but I'm great at math. My family watched me try to order a fast food meal... I meant to order my usual meal, but I accidentally ordered something entirely different and became confused about what I received. I am now often forgetful and can't think. I got lost driving in traffic near home. I am a confused, sweaty, zombie. Today I called around, turned in the Mylan and got the Amneal back. Hope it works to undo the crazy.

Yes. I used to take Amneal CItalopram (for 7 years) and my pharmacy changed the manufacturer to Mylan. I had a bad reaction. Basically, it was like I had missed 4 or more doses. I felt agitated, shaky and sweaty and just generally unwell. My pharmacy was able to order the last of it from another place but said they (and everyone else) would be unable to continue to get it as Amneal was bought by someone else and so they have stopped manufacturing it. I am going to try Aurobindo and hope I don't have the same reaction. It is unique to each person, so what might work for me, may not work for you. All you can do it keep trying other manufacturers until you find one that works, but it's scary.
