Chronic Pain Patients Must Get Organized To Lobby For Their Rights. (Page 7)

Updated

People with chronic, intractable pain are being discriminated against and it is imperative that we join forces to fight for our civil rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Please send information on existing associations and organizations that can help or how to establish one that can help pain patients fight for their rights with petitions, letters; emails to send to these state and federal politicians that are determined use prescription drugs, doctors and pharmacies to further their political careers. Drug abuse is not the same as opiate dependent because of chronic pain management and there are over 100 million people living with pain and many of us are unable to live without medication. If the deaths from abuse seems high, the suicides from pain patients that are unable to get relief will be significantly higher. If we do not fight these governors (Colorado's Hickenlooper is a perfect example) and federal agencies that are discriminating pain patients we will be even more victimized. Obviously these politicians no little about pain and they are not aware that chronic pain patients are voters. The statistics used to support their claims regarding deaths from prescription medications are seriously skewed and lacking in additional factors that contributed to the deaths. Compromising the doctor/pharmacy and patient relations is not the government's job; as John Boehner stated government needs to stay out of healthcare and let the trained healthcare professionals make decisions regarding their patients not some politician looking for recognition.

Re: Goatc (# 12) Expand Referenced Message

I've been taking morphine sulfate for osteoporosis, 5 broken vertebra, many wedged discs, scoliosis, kyphosis, and major pain all the time. My doctor cut my meds down from 200 mg daily to 90. I'm so afraid of being cut off. My doctor knows how bad I am. If he cuts my meds any lower I'd rather be dead as I'm dying slowly anyway and I don't know what to do.

Lyrica is a horrible drug. Luckily I refused to take it because I was on Gabapentin which is basically the same thing. I forget high school chemistry but I think they are isotopes or something like that. I tried to get off opioids when my doctor just switched me to opana er. The results were disastrous. Just wondering - has anyone tried medical marijuana? It’s legal in my state but with such limited choices that it is no help at all.

I will be 55 in a few weeks. I was forced to retire early because I cannot deal with the inevitable day that my medication is taken from me completely. With the reduction I was missing so many days of work. I think most of the people affected by the “war on drugs” will be older as well.

Happy Birthday to you and best wishes.

Where does that leave us, Hop63? We are the majority, right? I'm exhausted from dealing with the pain. And, I'm tired of b****ing and griping about it! I want to smile again, look forward to getting out of bed, enjoy being alive....fix a simple meal, be able to tie my shoes without tears. There has to be solutions!

Notify every political person in your state to do something and you will help them in their efforts. Then get a list of names to validate your point.

Re: Painismyname (# 110) Expand Referenced Message

The legalization of marijuana is misunderstood by many people. It can never be truly legal on the Federal level as long as it remains classified as a Schedule 1 drug. Each state is handling Medical marijuana differently. Medical marijuana differently Some states are trying to legalize both recreational and medical marijuana while others are picking in choosing which forms and strea some states are trying to legalize both recreational and medical marijuana while others are picking in choosing which forms and strains will be legal. In NY for example, you can get a medical marijuana card and go to the dispensary.
You will be given the choice of using a tincture capsules or you will be given the choice of using a tincture, capsules, or vaping. There are only 4 combinations of CBD:THC ratios available. The oil used to prepare them is not identified but called a “hybrid”. I tried medical marijuana for a short time and was optimistic at first. When I finally found a dose that helped reduce the pain it made me so tired and lethargic that I was unable to think or function. That is not improving my quality of life, it is reducing it. For those that benefit from the marijuana program I am very happy but I am not one of those people. If other forms, strengths, and strains were offered I might do great. Perhaps one day the states can have similar products available for patients. Until then I have to keep praying that I am not cut off from the prescription meds that I have been taking for the past 10 years.

I agree, the government has zero business in ANYONES life telling them what they can and cannot ingest. We are NOT children nor are we SLAVES.

They are supposed to WORK for US not enslave us and/or baby sit us.

If I knew who I needed to contact in the state of Alabama I would be happy to share my daily life with them... I say daily because each second of every day is hard to live when you suffer with chronic pain.. I only leave my home to go to doctor's appointments and my pharmacy monthly. I have no friends or family so no one ever comes to see me nor do I visit anyone. Each day I struggle with pain! The amount of opiate pain medication I receive now is so low it does not completely relieve my pain. I am not able to walk due to arthritis in my joints, so I have to limit my daily activity. I also suffer with spine issues that cause limitations. I have neuropothy in my legs that keep me up at night so going without sleep due to pain is not good either.. it's just not a good life when you hurt every second of every day! I have been suffering for so long I pray daily for someone to make a change to help people who suffers the way I do.. I know there are others who suffers worse than I do and my heart goes out to them. I have never tried any kind of illegal drugs in my life so I know I am not what some would call a addict! I had never taken any kind of prescription medication for anything until I became disabled in 2007.. I can honestly say I have always taken all my meds as described. I have never under taken or over taken my pain medication.. I only wanted to live a normal life or as close to normal life with the pain I suffer from!! I was managing just fine until a few years ago when my doctor cut my pain medication in half. That is when my whole world changed! I began to feel pain like never before I stopped getting out with friends and no longer wanted people to see me in the shape I was in.. I need someone to tell me what can I do in the state of Alabama to help try and change the minds of people that pain is real and it can change a person's way of life!!

Why are we being forced to live with chronic pain. How can they do this ?Everyone doesn't abuse their medication but we are paying the price . I sit and cry because I hurt so bad.

Re: madashell (# 124) Expand Referenced Message

Good question. Where does this get us? I agree making some noise with lawmakers is necessary. We are all aware of who’s interests the politicians protect. Big Pharma and more powerful lawmakers including groups like the DEA, among many others. I will fight and do my share but I am old enough to be realistic? No one cares that my quality of life is deteriorating daily as the pain increases. Everyone has their own agenda to push.

I agree with Liberty 100% because I’m one of those people. I take my medicine just as my doctor and pharmacy says. I don’t take them to feel high, I take to feel normal. I have had several injury’s doing my line of work. I have been a steel worker for 36 years and was in a car accident. I sustained several injuries that required several operations. So those who may read this and know how hard it is to live in constant pain every day all day and night. Your pain can cause you to be short tempered and not very fun to be around. I personally know someone that had their meds cut down and went to 6 different pharmacies before buying some of that heroin cut with that black market Fentanyl that killed this person who worked and supported his wife and 2 little kids. He was going to a legitimate pain management clinic for the last 6 years. They have stringent contracts that included monthly and random U/A's, monthly physicals and blood work every 6 months. My point is if our Florida governor Rick the Prick Scott would have stayed out of medicine and leave the doctors and pharmacist and those of us that really need our pain meds want to continue our present course of treatment I have been on and is giving us a good quality of life. Please tell anyone in your state local or federal government that do not need them telling our doctors and pharmacist how to do their jobs.

Untreated pain does kill. Many suicides are related to poor or no pain control.

You should start the movement in your area. I started a petition in my state last week. It takes one person who is truly standing for what is right, then people will join in.. good luck..

The best thing to do, i would if I could, is go to a methadone maintenance clinic. They will not take me back. They say I need to stay with pain management. They are full of s***. I went there for ten years, left for pain management and now I'm screwed in long island NY. Anyone in major pain should go to a local methadone clinic. Do not say that u r in pain, give a U/A with opioids only, no benzos. Methadone is the best pain med. Say u r an addict or whatever. Swallow your pride. Pride don't mean s*** when you need opioids. My advice is that & that is the best advice u can get. {edited for privacy}
