I would like to tell everyone that I started taking Red Yeast Rice, 600 mg, once a day, about one year ago and my total cholesterol is down to 168 and my good cholesterol has gone very high ## Recent studies have shown that we might have misinterpreted cholesterol, and how dangerous the levels are of the various types. These same studied have also shown that changing them naturally, such as you did is more beneficial than taking chemical medications, according to NIH studies. Of course, I acknowledge that this information may change, at any time, and I am not a doctor, so I can only share the results of my research, I am not trying to tell anyone they should, or should not take a medication their doctor recommends. As to this issue, I am very glad that you are doing so well. Are you on ...

I accidentally took a second dose of both my lisinopril/hctz 10-12.5mg and my simvastatin 40mg, only 12 hours after my normal doses instead of a full 24 hours apart. How concerned should I be, and is there anything I should do? ## Hello, Jenn! How are you? Did you experience any adverse effects? Generally taking a double dose just once isn't a major issue, unless you are allergic to, or sensitive to a given medication. I have been taking Fenofibrate 134mg for almost 7 years now. I have hereditary high Triglycerides. Mine was 633 the first blood test in 2010 and then the second one was 408. Doctor started me on Fenofibrate and my Triglycerides have been at 97 - 200 ever since. Until now. The price for me has been $132 for 90 pills. Then starting this year it went to $90, then $60, and then $12. Took a blood test last week and my Triglycerides are back up to 401 like the pill is no longer working. The brand is Mylan. Did they change the chemical make up or what is going on? ## It is normal for our bodies to get used to any medication we take in a certain dosage for a long period of time, so eventually, we build up a tolerance, and it stops working as well for us. I found 6 capsules in my sons room wrapped in a napkin inside a baggie.. They are clear with white tiny round beads and no other markings. I Know there is no way to positively identify this with no markings... BUT I want to hear from street smart folks that know illegal drugs - Not pharmacological experts who only deal with legal drugs. I want to know what these COULD be based on what is hip with teens these days. (Please give me a list of all illegal drugs that match this description). I know it could be Niacin (because Niacin can look just like this) but he doesn't take vitamins and has no reason to take Niacin. I am on 80 mg of Atorvastatin. Can I safely start cutting my doses to 40 for a week or two, then half the 40 for a week or two, then half the 20, then get off without the extreme side effects? ## Hi Terry, Generally, it's best to discuss tapering protocols with your prescribing doctor in order to mitigate possible risk factors (e.g. rebound effects or withdrawal symptoms). However, as a last resort, and because only you know your body and how it responds to Atorvastatin, my opinion is that your current approach certainly seems feasible. Since Atorvastatin is used to treat high cholesterol and triglyceride levels, simply changing your diet (staying away from foods that raise those numbers) should theoretically yield noticeable results in and of itself. Unfortunately no one can accura...
