Chlorzoxazon Tab 500mg Side Effects (Top voted first)
UpdatedI had a five level fusion in December 2011. I have a knee bending pain when I move the wrong way. It last for hours. It's more like a knife jab or slice than nerve impigement which I have had much esxperience with.
This medication does NOTHING to reduce the impact of pain caused by my moving the wrong way. It's as though I have had nothing to reduce the pain.
Can you explain exactly how this medication is supposed to work and why might it not help me?

Chlorzoxazone is a muscle relaxant, which means it only works on muscles, to prevent the spasms from them that can cause pain and discomfort. Thus, it is not actually a pain reliever.
Additionally, for sudden break through pain like that, most pain relievers that have already been taken, will usually not help much. This is why it is called break through pain. It usually requires some type of additional pain medication, such as an instant release formulation, to help get it back under control.

Have you discussed this issue with your doctor?
Hi, I had the same surgery as you about six yrs. ago. Most of my issues have been nerve related. I am on methocarbomal and it works ok. In my opinion, you need to see a neurologist and or a neurosurgeon to determine what exactly is going on inside. They are the only ones qualified, Not an orthopedic or G.P. If the original problem was stenosis, it may have come back. A CT scan should show what's going on. From my experience, physical therapy never helped, (it's not a muscle problem.) The TENS machine just irritated my nerves. My neurosurgeon hates them. I highly recommend Epidural inj's., regular massages (every 2 weeks), and a no carb diet to reduce inflammation. Good luck and God bless you. Sam
I had a five level fusion (including a correction of a two level fusion in 1998) on December 1, 2010. This surgery included decrompression to try to correct spinal stenosis.
I am having more pain than ever before. I fully understand the fact that back surgeries to the extent of my surgery cannot guarantee freedom from pain; however, I am suffering from too much pain. I have tried to manage my pain relief medication over the past 12 years, but it is getting out of my control. I take two hydrocodone 10/325 about four to five times a day, but I have built a tolerance to it and it certainly does not provide relief from the "breakthrough" pain you mention. The pain last for several hours or the remainder of the day. I walk hunched over and suffer in misery.
I have heard of morphine patches or patches that can possibly provide relief. I have no desire to take heavier dosages of medication, but I cannot imagine continuing as I am. I mentioned this to my primary care physician (who I like very much and believe he is watching out for my welfare), but he stated that I do not want to jump into patches. He said he wanted to try and stop any muscle spasms. I have taken muscle relaxants befor, but they have never provided much relief and certainly did not treat breakthrough pain.
I have NEVER taken illegal drugs and have managed my dosages of hydrocodone until recently. I have had epiderals prior to my surgery and am pursuing this remedy, but my doctor moved to Joplin, MO a short time before the big tornado. I like her very much and believe she also is very professional and empathetic. She also prescribed a TENS unit several months ago. It has helped, but not with this miserable, stinking pain.
I have results from the MRI, CT Scan, and milogram a month before my surgery. I also have copies of the xrays following surgery. How does a patient deal with such pain, and what avenues might provide relief from the sudden and long lasting jabs from movement that aggrivates my back?
I am in physical therapy, but the PT has suggested I speak with my primary care doctor.
I greatly appreciate your assistance and greatly appreciate access to help.
