Happiernow,

Thank you for the advice, Chantix is as bad if not worse than a bad acid trip. I have called a 24 hour crisis line in my area when I feel like I want to just fade away and they have been very helpful. I will take your advice on one of those counseling groups. Thank you for your concern!

I am glad you are still not smoking and I hope the effects of that hell drug leaves your body soon. My husband quit also on Chantix (took it for 1 month). He stopped the drug the end of November and still is moody and not all himself. Nothing gives him pleasure any longer. Please contace Pfiser drug company and let them know about the bad effects of Chantix. Good luck to you.

Uncontrollable crying, turbo anger, confusion and memory problems are just some of the side effects of this mind bending soul sucking drug. Consult a physician about these red flags. It can get worse before it gets better. People die from this drug. Chantix makes you not care about living and robs you of happiness. Get some help for depression. The problem is that if you start smoking again the effects can still be permanent and then you'll be back on cigarettes too. Hang in there and do not try this alone.

Sad part is, if YOU don't see what is happening to you, then you will seek no help. You will blame the ones closest to you for all you feel. Your paranoia and anger will destroy you and those around you. Why do they keep this drug on the market??? I can answer that....MONEY$$$$$$! My spouse seems to get better, then goes back into Chantix mode. Difficult to live with a Jeckyll/Hyde personality. Every time I see that Chantix commercial on the television I could scream...not only does it make the user an unbearable individual, it can bring out the worse in people close to them. My cardioligist won't even prescribe it because one too many of his patients ended up on a psych ward...that says something.

I was in denial at first also. My husband kept telling me the drug was the reason I could not quit crying etc. I kept thinking nah...I'm just going through withdrawls. After quitting chantix it did get better slowly but only after it got worse. I knew it was the drug. And yes people do end up in the psych ward because of this drug. I was lucky and did not. Some are not so lucky and just opt out instead. One chantix survivor said "the sucess rate is also good because you won't want to smoke..or live. Hard to relapse if you are dead." I agree that they should add to the label on the box ~ warning! May cause brain damage.

Wow, my husband is on day 7 of chantix. Hasn't even given up the cigs yet and he is a raging maniac. He is saying a lot of the same things I have read on these posts......sell the house, get a divorce, coexist, etc. We have been married for 25 years and this is just crazy!

Larisa,

I am so sorry this is happeneing to you...it seems identical as to what is happening in my marriage of 31 years. Is he denying it's the Chantix? My husband comes back to normal now and then but has not told me loved me since right after Thanksgiving and I feel it"s painful for him to be around me, to tolerate me. It's as if he feels nothing for no one or anything. He won't even talk to my family We had a good marriage too. I called his doctors office and told them not to refill the Chantix and why. Can you please repond back to me? I know exactly what you are going through. - Kim

It's almost 11pm. I have now been sitting on my couch weeping for the last hour & a half. My husband started taking Chantix a week before Christmas. He officially quit nicotine the day before Christmas. He was a wreck, very despondent, never smiled, never cracked his usual jokes. I took him out to dinner to try & snap him out of it. I thought things were starting to get better over the last week. Then I noticed yesterday things were a little tense w/ him & tonight he completely flipped out. He started "cleaning" which meant he was throwing things back into their place. I was completely dumbfounded. I did not say a word as I knew whatever came out of my mouth would be turned on me. I sent my kids to bed so they would not continue to witness this horrible behavior. We have had a wonderful 12 years of marriage. I am now sitting here stunned & heart broken. The crazy thing is that he has completely denied having any sort of bad behavior, but it has been HORRIBLE. I know it has to be the Chantix & in a fit of hurt & anger, I threw the rest of the pills away. I'm sad to hear that others are going through the same thing. I will be letting his dr. know tomorrow what is going on.

Sad,

I am so sorry to hear...I really feel the pain you are going through. I never know how he will react to things anymore. He has made sure that all of us here are miserable. He has been better the last few days but I am afriad to get my hopes up, afraid to ask anything because I don't know his reaction. He is not physically violent, but mentally he can be crude. Hang in there! It's been 5 weeks now since mine quot taking the drug.

Should have known not to get my hopes up..he is back in Chantix mode. His Mom turns 85 today and I suggested to go to the florist for a small bouquet....That's all it took. "We can 't afford to buy any presents for anybody at any time. Not my family, not yours...and I will not be attending any of your family's celebrations." Still selling the house, still moving to Florida (I can go, he says...whoopie) and says we will stay in the same house til next winter if that is how long it takes to sell the house.......He is so mentally cruel! I am seriously considering seeking advise from a divorce attorney....no one should live like this!

Im on my first week of Chantix. Smoking free with some slip here and there. It works great. Side effect constipation but it is manageable. Know your body is the key. I took .5 ml for the first tree days and now Im taking .75 for the next month. I don't want to take any more unless my urge to smoke becomes unbearable. I smoked since I was 15 a pack and a half a day. Im a serious smoker

Dear "HappyNow" ....Good Luck with that. I took Chantix the first time that I quit and had no side effects.
The 2nd time I took Chantix was a nightmare. It was a slow descent into hell. I feel lucky to have survived the drug and it's effects. Hopefully you will stay "Happy Now" and you will be one of the fortunate ones who are not effected (much like the first time I took Chantix). The best of luck to you. My prayers go out to those who ARE still feeling the effects of this terrible drug and ripples it leaves behind.

So happy to say after 7 1/2 weeks of being Chantix free, my hubbie is 90% normal....he actually laughs again. There is hope out there. The only thing lingering is a strange taste in his mouth.

I was on Chantix 2 different times. While on taking it I would wake up every morning around 3am and horrible nightmares. This is still happening to me 5 years after I have been off of it.I took an overdose of pills(not CHANTIX) while on Chantix ended up in I.C.U. for 3 days then off to a Mental Hospital for 9 days.I have high blood pressure since that happened, never had it before...started out on 1 medicine for it now today I'm on 4 medicines for my high blood pressure and also have heart problems too...on a beta blocker and calicum channel blocker.I also have a bipolar disorder.I talked to a lawyer about my attempted sucide and basicly it's like this if I was dead..someone could collect on behalf.I WOULD NOT SUGGEST TO ANYONE TRYING TO QUIT SMOKING TO TAKE CHANTIX.I'm not the person I once was. F*** Pzifer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am sorry to hear about your horrible side effects. I consider Chantix the "Hell Drug". I took it for 2 weeks and quit because of the disturbing dreams. My husband took it for a month and nearly wrecked our marriage. Did you call Pfizer? I did , didn't really do anything but felt good to ram them out. I hope your effects form the crazy drug go away.

Thanks. It would be nice if the effects would go away..but it's been 5 years. And yes I called the company and gave them Hell....well said what I wanted to say and then they ask for my name and I hung up on them...They don't care about people. All they care about is making MONEY off of people who need medicine.

Years of smoking was probably the culprit :(

Yeah... I am pretty sure years of smoking does NOT have the same effects of this so called miracle drug from hell. People do not end up in pysche wards or commit suicide because of years of smoking. Anyone who thinks that after reading these enteries is either a moron or they own stock in Chantix. What an insensitive thing to say to people who are struggling to survive the effects of this mind altering drug! Yes- Cigarettes will give you cancer among others but it does not melt a persons brain like chantix can. Keep praying. Don't give up hope all you survivors.
