I am self treating a sinus infection. Started with 3 days of Cephalexin which I had from an infected finger. Also have 4 days of Amox from my sister. New job and can't take off to go to the doctor. Can I go from one to the other? Thanks! ## I should have mentioned that neither of the drugs is expired. Thanks for your thoughts! ## You shouldn't, what you really need is 10days worth of one continuous antibiotic. I know it's a pain to take off work to go to the doctor, but it's something that we all have to do sometimes. And, if you don't have enough of one antibiotic to treat an infection, you run the risk of developing antibiotic resistance, which would make you even more ill and you may end up with a much longer time period off of work, due to being in the hospital. ...

UpdatedCan I use this for my dogs ear infection? If I can how much per day and for how long? thank you ## Hi Cin, Are you referring to Cephalexin perhaps? If so, based on my research this medication is an antibiotic that is used both in dogs and cats to treat bacterial infections. Side effects can include (but are not limited to): diarrhea and vomiting. The dosage for your dog should only be determined by your veterinarian to be sure you don't give him/her too much or too little. The dosage can vary depending on certain factors like weight, severity of the condition, and medical history. I was bitten by a spider and was prescribed cephalexin 500. Would nitrofur-macr 100mg be a good substitute. ## Hi, Troy! How are you? I am taking Cephalexin 500 for a tooth infection, tramadol every day for arthritis, and I am having problems with insomnia, can I take ZzzQuil? ## Hi, Milli! How are you? Both the Tramadol and the Diphenhydramine in the Zzzquil can elevate the levels of serotonin in your brain. Too much serotonin can cause serotonin syndrome, which can be fatal. Thus, combining these medications isn't advisable, unless your doctor has specifically told you that it is safe for you to do so. Learn more Tramadol details here. Learn more Zzzquil details here. For anyone wishing to save money, it isn't necessary to purchase Zzzquil, Diphenhydramine is the same ingredient that is in Benadryl and the store brand/generic equivalents. I have just finished a 10 day dose of apo cephalex for an infection on my foot, which has still not fully healed, and I have suddenly developed hives all over my body, as of today. Could the hives be related to the medication, even though they occurred only after that many days of taking it? ## Yes, it could very well be what's caused your hives. Antibiotics do remain in your system for several days after you take them and there are many people that make it about 9 days in and suddenly develop an allergic reaction. When I discovered one that I was allergic to, I made it 9 and half days in, I had one dose left to go. You should consult your doctor, of course, to make sure that is what has caused them, but there's a very good chance it is. Is there anything else I can help with? L...

I was given about 6 of them by a friend for an absess on my arm. Is it safe to take them for an absess? Will it help heal it; possibly make it go away without having to go get it lanced and squeezed at the hospital. ## The red capsule you're describing is identified as Cephalexin 500 mg; an antibiotic used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections. Unfortunately there's no real way of knowing how well you'll end up responding to this drug, since it's common for antibiotics to effect each person differently (with regards to side effects, duration of treatment, and overall efficacy). This is why it's so important to use a legitimate prescription from your doctor, because they can offer you more appropriate advice after an in-person diagnoses/evaluation. For anyon...

Is sporidex effective for treating UTI in children? ## Based on my research, Sporidex (Cephalexin) is said to be an antibiotic with a well tolerated side effect profile. Although it is commonly used for urinary-tract infections, I haven't found any claims stating "how safe or effective" it may be for small children under a certain age. I suppose this answer could be different for everyone of any age though, since body chemistry and biological age varies so greatly on a personal basis.
