Does cefdinir make your urine smell and does it cause you to need to go more often? ## The exact reason why medications do certain things to the body are unknown, however, they all do have side effects, because you are ingesting a foreign substance. Cefdinir is an antibiotic, a generic for Omnicef. The most common side effects include: nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain and headache. That said, it should not make you urinate more frequently, but medications do affect people differently. Have you talked to your doctor about this? ## Yes. My urine smells awful, just like the smell/aftertaste of the capsule when I take my dose of Cefdinir. ## Mine too, just reeks. ## My urine smells terrible since I've been taking Omnicef. ## My pee smells like asparagus, but I didn't eat any asparag...

Can you take Cefdinir (300 mg) for a tooth infection? ## Hi, Bonnie! It's usually only used to treat some specific infections. There are others that are much more effective at treating dental infections. Have you consulted your dentist? If you have a dental infection, not only do you need an appropriate antibiotic, but you need to have the underlying issue that caused the infection corrected, or the infection will just keep returning. ## Hi, I found several capsules, purple/teal, which I know is an antibiotic. I thought the cefdinir would have kept me from having an abscessed tooth since I'm already on it for bronchitis. Why isn't it working for both? My tooth has a cap on it but needs the cap removed and a root canal done and a cap replaced... ## With the cap still on the tooth, there is a chance that it isn't able to properly drain to allow the infection to fully clear up. A dental abscess forms a pocket down in the roots, similar to that formed by a cyst, and it has to drain, or be drained, to clear out the bacteria that has caused the infection. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Cefdinir as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. You may need another round of antibiotics, once the cap is removed, and the root canal is done....

I went to MedDirect early Monday morning crying I was in so much pain. I've had an abscessed tooth for a little over 6 months now, but financially we are barely making it paycheck to paycheck, so I haven't been able to get it pulled. They said it would be a couple hundred for just the x-ray, and $375 just to get that one tooth out. So, I couldn't get it done. I was crying Saturday and Sunday because of how bad it was, plus I also have scoliosis that I haven't been able to be seen for and I could barely move for three days prior to visit. I tell him my issues, he looks inside my mouth, prescribes me ibuprofen and was going to do penicillin, but Penicillin always makes me puke, Amoxicillin is fine though...which I told him, but he prescribes me Cefdinir 300mg, which was $9...

I need to know where to look up my medications to see if any can cause a false positive for methamphetamine? ## Hi Jon, if you know a friendly pharmacist that is willing to have an honest conversation then they are your best source of information. Doctors do not have anywhere near the training a chemist does and i would not rely solely on a doc's advice re your meds and how they may affect your drug test results ## Jane Not a bad suggestion but hopefully that poster resolved the issue by now since it was posted last August . At least I hope she would've found resolution by this point. A simple google search for "Rx's known to cause false +'s for Methamphetamine".works as well. ## Cefdinir300capcules will make me dirty for methamphetamines

I took a z-pack and want to find out how long I should wait to start the antibiotics (cefdinir) my dr. has now prescribed? ## There is usually no issue and you should start it as directed by your doctor. The FDA warns that typical side effects of antibiotics may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, diarrhea, and non-allergic skin rash. Is there anything else I can help with?

My post crown broke. The crown been in 3 years had root canal when crown put in.. The upper gum is real sore, no insurance. Is the soreness a possible infection and will CEFDINIR help till get money to have fixed.I called dentist and they will not use my crown to save cost so I can afford to get it fixed???? ## Without seeing it, it is hard to say, but there is a chance that it is infection and requires an antibiotic. The FDA lists typical antibiotic side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. There is no way they can promise that they can use the existing crown, because it might not be viable to do so, the tooth may need to be extracted. Do you have an emergency dentist in your area that can check it out for you?

I have an abscessed tooth and can't get to the dentist until later in the week. I found some cefdinir in the cabinet that's 3 yrs old. Is it safe to take it? ## It does not become dangerous, once expired, but the FDA does report that it may lose some efficacy, so there is a risk that it may not work as well as it did, when it was new, which could cause you to develop antibiotic resistant bacteria. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. Has there been any change? Have you seen your dentist, yet?

I'm taking cefdinir for an ear infection. Also i have 5 teeth that need cut out and I also have a bad abscess. Can I take penicillin too for the abscess? ## Hello, Teresa! How are you? You should take them both, if your doctor/dentist has instructed you to do so. Multiple antibiotics are often prescribed to treat particularly severe infections, or those caused by differing bacteria. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Has there been any change?

I'm currently dealing with a tooth infection and unfortunately, I can't get an appointment with my dentist until Tuesday, and today is Friday. My wife has Cefdinir at home. Would that help reduce the swelling in my face? ## Hello, Witchdr! How are you feeling? I'm sorry about the dental infection. According to MedlinePlus, “Cefdinir is used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria such as bronchitis, infections of the skin, ears, sinuses, throat, and tonsils. Cefdinir is in a class of medications called cephalosporin antibiotics. It works by killing bacteria.” [1] So while it can be used to treat oral infections, it may take several days to start having an effect and it may not reduce swelling immediately. To do that, it has to start eradicating the infecti...

I'm in Vietnam and got my wisdom tooth growing. Doctor prescribed Trixenim (Cefdinir 300), Flagyl (Metronidazole), Efferalgan 500 and some small white tablets with P and 5 on top and bottom of dividing line (one side only). Those tablets (21 pcs) were given to me by a nurse in small transparent bag with directions for use (3 times a day after meal). I plan to skip taking antibiotics unless I feel very bad and want to make sure what those white tablets are...would appreciate your help! ## Hi, I have found the small white pill P 5 in my friends home. They are hand labeled actifed, but when I searched none matched. My friend is a Vietnam Vet. Just wondered if you ever found out what these are. Thanks so much,

Hello, I used a purple and cyan antibitoic for an ear infection. It was given to me multiple times, and it is not helping my ear problems. I am now wondering what it was because i plan on going to the doctor for my ear problems. It is not GREEN, like the Cefdinir. Any idea as to what this might be? ## No, I'm sorry, but there is no way to know for sure what it was from just the color. However, it should be listed in your medical records, by whomever prescribed it, so your doctor should know, or they should be able to find out. Are there any other questions or comments?

Because Cefdinir is also a antibiotc, wii it work just as well as Sulfameth tmp ds tabs. ## It really depends on what type of infection is being treated. Sometimes doctors choose one antibiotic over another, because they know has been proven more effective at treating certain infections. For instance, while it is a broad spectrum antibiotic of the Cephalosporin class, Cefdinir has been proven most effective at treat infections of ear, sinus, throat and skin. Thus, your doctor may not want to prescribe it for a urinary tract infection. The Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim, however, has been shown to be very effective at treating urinary tract infections, so when you have one, your doctor may prefer to use it as their first choice. And there are some infections that they are both proven...

The pill is a capsule and is dark purple on one side and like a light blue or teal on the other. It has a c on the side that is purple and 300 on the side that is teal/blue. The bottle that I found the pill in was filled in october of 2010.The bottle also says that it is cefdinir generic for omnicef but I am unable to find a pill picture that is the exact match for this pill so I am assuming that it is not in the right bottle. It is at my mother inlaws house and she has a bad habit of placing the wrong pills in the wrong container so I am trying to figure out what this pill is and if it is in the proper bottle. Thanks for any help that is offered. ## No, that is the correct identification, though I don't have a picture to post for you, due to copyright reasons. Cefdinir is a generic...
