Carisoprodol/soma - Need A Doctor To Prescribe It! (Page 2) (Top voted first)

I've been taking soma / carisoprodol off and on for 22 years. When I first took it, I was told to take two 350 mg at bedtime, and it was too much and I nicknamed it Coma! Later I learned that when I first start taking soma after not taking it for a long time to only take 1/4 tab, or even a bit less. Later I can take more as needed, but starting out 1/4 or even 1/8th helps when I haven't take it for a very long time. Now I can't find a doctor who will prescribe it, I read as much as I could find and asked as many, doctors, pharmacists why, and they said various things, but it seemed to come down to the medicine has fallen out of favor because of abuse, "A considerable proportion of carisoprodol is metabolized to meprobamate" (from Wikipedia and that there is abuse. I don't understand why, I've taken it for many years and never noticed any euphoria whatsoever, but apparently some do abuse it. I'm able to manage most of my cervical and lumbar pain without having to take the tylenol #4 I normally take, at most 1/4 tab of Tylenol #4.

So it helps me to do without or almost without opiates, and so my mind does not get that opiate feeling one gets in the head. But since the doctors won't give me Soma, I have to take the Tylenol #4. I've tried diazepam, works great, but makes driving dangerous and has a long half life, so it becomes more dangerous with time. metaxalone/ Skelaxin - ineffective methocarbamol/Robaxin ineffective and caused really bad restless leg syndrome. ZANAFLEX /(tizanidine about 5-10% effective, but caused my head to get cloudy and caused dizziness. I've heard about Baclofen (Lioresal, but haven't tried it yet, though I've heard it is effective. But soma works well without side effects, so I wish I could find a doctor that would prescribe it! any suggestions?

I was diagnosed from my urologist with Interstitial Cystitis almost 15 years ago and it changed my life forever. My pain doctor who I was seeing bad a home invision happen at his home and his wife was killed and he beaten within an inch of his life. I have new doctor now and she is great but when I spoke to her with prescribing me Soma like my previous pain doctor did which help me the most she told me there practice will no longer issue that medication. She told me to call my other doctors to see if they will help me. Can you please let me know what type of doctor I would have to best luck with? I have been suffering with the worse flare ever and I know the Soma will help.

I've been taking Soma 350mg 4x a day for the past 6 months...in addition to other opiod pain medication for a number of serious back issues. I take drug panels through my Pain Mgmt. Doctor EVERY SINGLE TIME THOUGH. Of course I pass as I would never want to risk losing my meds.

But yeah, every month I get a script for 120 350mg Somas. 4x a day. No problems whatsoever. But I guess I'm just lucky to have a great doctor whom cares legitimately about helping me. And I still dont understand why people abuse them. I never felt any euphoria from them at least...

But funny how the FDA says opiates are ALL GOOD but GOD FORBID you have a little cannabis. That's the definition of both irony and ludicrous alike haha...

Go to ProPublica. It's a list of each doctor and PA that prescribes each medicine and at what rate. I live near buffalo too.

Come on....every other med the Doctor Rx isn't addictive? I don't get mine INTHE US!!!Soma the ONLY THING THAT WORKS SOR ME!!!

how/who do you order on line from? My pain clinic said they could not order soma if you are on pain pills anymore. I have 4 bulging discs with referring pain to right side down groin, lower back pain from degenerative joint disease and was on percocet and some for 12 years and able to hold a full time job in nursing for 53 yrs. Never overdosed and it was the only thing that worked. Never OD'd or abused. Had some left over frequently at end of month. Don't know why they are punishing us.

Dear Lyndsej. Well said. I have also taken Soma for 20 years, never an abuse issue only great relief!!! My doctor is treating me like a junkie. I feel so disrespected for no reason. When I first began treatment for back pain, my doctor wrote my rx for 1400mg of m.s. contin a day in divided doses. I looked at the rx and thought, well I guess she knows best. I have a very high tolerance so I never had any adverse effects. My doctor had an out patient surgical procedure and unfortunately, she died on the operating table. The next doctor I went to at their practice was horrified at the dose. He immediately lowered the dose to 1000 NHS a day. After that I started investigating the m.s. contin and found very distressing side effects like tooth loss, deep vein thrombosis and many more. So on my own, I had my doctor lower the dose over time. Over 20 years, plus I am now taking only 105mg/day. I want to stay at this dose, but this is not satisfactory to my purest doctor, saying that I have to take only 45 mg/day. I have significant pain that is chronic pain issues and rather than complimenting me for initiating the dose reduction he treats me like an addict. The last visit he told me that we agreed that the 45mg dose would be our goal CV and that the insurance company will not allow him to prescribe any more. That conversation never took place, the insurance company will pay for much higher dosage both are complete unadulterated lies. However, he will prescribe Soma 4x a day. I think he has a mental illness or two!! Tired of being treated with so disrespectfully like a street junkie.

I had a decompression posterior spinal fusion, L4 thru S1 using spinefrontier instrumentation pedicle screw instrumentation. posterior lumbar interbody autograft, allograft. Both my legs have sciatica in the only thing that work for me was Soma 350 milligrams 3 times a day I've had back problems since I was in my early twenties I am in my mid-fifties. Can't doctors tell who's abusing and who isn't it makes it hard for people like me to get the medication that works period maybe they should just legalize medical marijuana in Ohio so people can get pain relief because it seems that pills can also cause liver damage and cause liver cancer period so what choice do we have as patients. It's so hard these days to have a really good doctor that you put all your trust in. Its not the doctor's fault. There has to come to some solution in this state for people with chronic pain because I have Hepatitis C and it I cannot have no Tylenol or NSAIDs. So maybe I'll do some homework on that medical cannabis or better yet maybe I'll just move to California for medical attention cuz I'm not getting it in Ohio.

I have been a chronic pain patient for over 10 years. I have herniated discs, RSD , fibromyalgia, impinged nerves,and also cancer and other neck and back problems I can't spell. I've tried pt. Ot. and every thing asked of me even though it caused pain. I was taken off my soma and had my other pain meds lowered. I have never abused my meds but I'm treated like a street drug user. I am now incapable of living a normal life. I don't understand. Kaiser has really taken away my quality of life. Tired of hurting.

Here-Here!! I agree. I also started to order online. Sorry, but that's what I have to do to get the simple muscle relaxer that allows me to stay OFF of pain meds and function. Keeps me out of the ER, the hospital and pain management surgery center having repeated, numerous injections for the compressed nerves, muscle spasms, and small disc fracture (which they offer me every 5 months in sets of 3 even when I don't ask for them. I truly got sick of Drs. telling me what worked in my body and what wouldn't. Heck with it, I gave up and order for someone who referred me to someone who he knew, etc., and I pay a fraction of the cost of a doctor appt. and co-pay and always get my supply! Sorry that sounds awful, and yes, I know what abuse and addiction are. I was more apt to abuse pain meds when I can't get the NON-NARCOTIC med I need and want! Hell with the DEA. I'll take my chances online.
