Can't Drink Alcohol Weeks After Stopping Lexapro?

My doctor prescribed me lexapro for crippling depression and anxiety. I have been on it for a few months, and after telling the doctor I felt like I was gaining weight, but that the anxiety was a little better, he took me off the lexapro immediately. I thought this was dangerous, but I am not a doctor. Cut to me not having taken it for going on 3 weeks. My anxiety has increased and among other withdrawal symptoms, I am so tired all the time. I had half a glass of wine this Evenjng to relax, and it almost instantly made me feel nausea and like I was constantly falling. I was sick to my stomach and can't shake this feeling like my entire brain has literally been thrown out of order. And now I can't sleep. Is this normal? How long after stopping should you avoid drinking? Thanks!

Yes, alcohol can do that, it can aggravate the withdrawal effects.

Really, your doctor should have tapered you off of it, if you were on it for a couple months, to minimize those effects.

And weight gain is really no reason to totally pull someone off of it, anyway. You could try increased exercise and dietary adjustments to counteract it, or switch to a different SSRI, such as Prozac, which isn't known to cause the weight gain.

Other side effects to SSRIs, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache and dry mouth.

Is there anything else I can help with?
