Can I Take Ibuprofen With Methadone?

I am on methadone but have bad period pains. Does taking ibuprofen act with or against the methadone and will it affect the lab work that I have to submit?

Unfortunately there is not much information out there on this topic, but I can tell you with absolute certainty from experience that you should not take ibuprofen or any NSAID with methadone ever. The problem is that it will knock the bonded methadone particles off of your blood proteins, thus raising the amount of freely available negative methadone in the blood stream, causing overdose risk for low dose users, and emptying your buffer for maintenance methadone users which will destabilize you making you feel withdrawal symptoms much sooner, and cause the buffer to have to rebuild over the course of a few days. If you need some over the counter pain relief then acetaminophen would be the wiser choice.

The FDA warns that Methadone carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation.

How are you doing? Are you experiencing generalized pain, or is it cramping?

That is total nonsense. In fact, ibuprofen is given WITH methadone in cancer patients because it provides better analgesia than either alone. I don't know where you got this idea, but I've taken both for several years and experienced no increase or decrease in methadone levels, nor has it affected my urine or blood work.
