Can Dogs Take Dilaudid

Can u give ur dog dilaudid for pain he has teeth pain badly gonna be having all his teeth pulled very soon but he's in a lot of pain now and he ran out of his and I don't have the money to get a refill. And if he can how many MG's an old I give him......???????

I wouldn't recommend administering strong medication like Dilaudid (Hydromorphone) without first consulting your pet's veterinarian.

However, from what I understand, the dosage is generally determined by the weight of your dog. According to wikipedia, the recommended dose of Hydromorphone for dogs is listed at 0.05 - 0.1 mg/per kg of body weight, to be administered intramuscularly or subcutaneously every 24 hours.

Were you planning on giving your dog actual pills or going the IV route?

In relation to giving dogs Dilaudid, the dosage for dogs is in micrograms not milligrams. So please be careful and understand the difference before administering.

Actually dosage is milligrams, mg. if it was micrograms it would say mcg. All info I have seen and many postings online says mg not mcg. There for for example if it is .05 mg per pound and dog is 20 pounds the dose would be 1mg, milligram, which is a very small dose of diluadid or hydromorphone.
