Can Smz-tmp Sus 200-40/5 Cause Diarrhea Or Fever?
UpdatedMy son was prescribed SMZ-TMP SUS 200-40/5, 9ml every 12 hours by mouth, and this is his second full day taking the medicine. This morning there was severe diarrhea, and tonight he has developed a fever. I was thinking about giving him some Tylenol for his fever, but I am unsure if it is safe with his prescription. Also, is this prescription causing these things? Can someone please help??!?

The Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim, the active ingredients in Bactrim, is an antibiotic that is used to treat various types of infections and yes, both the diarrhea and fever can be side effects of it.
There are no interactions listed between it and the Tylenol, but you should double check with his doctor, or your pharmacist to be certain.
