Can Latisse Backfire? (Page 4) (Top voted first)

Updated

I used Latisse successfully for several months & loved the look. But then my lashes started to fall out, leaving me with short stubby ones less full than when I began the latisse. Does anyone know if it stops working, or the body gets resistant to it, or have any of you had the same reaction? Thanks.

(see my previous posts) So I stopped using Lumigan. (a milder form of Latisse ) because I found it wasn't working any longer and I did notice my lashes getting thinner again so I quit before it got worse. I had been using it about 3? years after I stopped using Latisse. It did work at first but then stopped after a while. I am currently taking the vitamin "Biotine" which is supposed to be good for hair and nails, maybe that's why my lashes didn't completely fall out this time. I was wondering if any of you have used any of the over the counter products like Rapid Lash or Idol lash. I don't really trust the online reviews. My normal lashes are fairly short and not too thick, I was hoping for at least a little improvement.

I've used latisse for 5 years. 2 months ago my lashes became shorter and it stopped working. Can it do that?

Thanks Beth. That's good to know. I am currently trying "Ecrinal" Lash Conditioner. It's like mascara except you put it on at night. It was only 25$ and the woman at shopper's said she's heard good comments about it. She said it takes about 6 weeks to notice any difference. I also stopped using my eyelash curler to see if that makes a difference.

I am also post menopausal. I used Latisse for two years with terrific results. At this point I noticed that I was no longer experiencing any results. My lashes became brittle and shed constantly. They would become irradiated before falling out; an itchy, burning sensation. I discontinued use and waited for things to calm down. They didn't. I now have 4 lashes. they continue to grow in very slowly. I am applying a salve provided by my dermatologist and the burning has stopped. The benefits were short lived and I hope the current situation reverses itself.

Lumigan and Latisse are the same medication. Just a different application

I have had the same experience. Wonderful at first, now gone in some spots and short otherwise.

For the first year, my eyelashes were long, thick and beautiful! Now the ones I have are short and stubby and even missing in some spots. Very unhappy. My first bottle of Latisse came straight from the doctor. Then I started ordering it online at a discounted price.

Same for me - my eyelashes have thinned out and in fact I have a gap now where there are no lashes!
It's been 3 months and it took the 3rd month to notice the missing lashes..... especially when I would apply my mascara,. I am naturally blonde, and blonde lashes and with mascara it's even more noticeable!
Does anyone know if you can return Latisse at the Dermatologist?

I still am not sure about the effects of Latisse on my lashes. I have using now for 4 months and only 2 weeks ago I thought that my lashes were getting thinner. Until this week, the missing patch on my left side does not seem as bad now. For the price of Latisse the results so far are disappointing.
Now that I read your post on Lumigan, the reviews seem very positive.

so I now stopped using Lumigan and Latisse as of about 6 months ago. I used Lumigan for a few years and found my lashes were getting brittle and damaged. I also no longer use an eyelash curler. My lashes are starting to come back to normal now and I just fill them in with false eyelashes if I'm going somewhere special. Does any one use any kind of eyelash conditioner commercial or natural that works?

My lashes were long and then this last batch of Latisse caused them to fall out- i could not believe it- devastated with stubby lashes - HAS TO BE A BAD BATCH!!!

I called Allergan regarding a possible anecdote to repair the damage from Latisse-
they did not want to hear from me and denied any other complaints.
I've read dozens. If anyone should find a remedy please post it!

I’m currently having a similar experience. I started taking latisse mid-June 2017. Loved the results within 3-4 weeks. Was told that once I have achieved what I want to just use it a couple times a week. I went several days in a row and pretty much just skipped weekends. Now I have noticed I’m losing several lashes a day so I started a daily routine again. My lashes are short and sparse presently.

Re: Elizabeth (# 7) Expand Referenced Message

I think this is the key right here. Everyday Latisse seems to be way to much. When I was doing it every other day they were way stronger and longer to be honest. Also it could be a bad batch of latisse.

I started using latisse 2 months ago faithfully and my eyelashes appear to have stopped growing all together. In fact, the bottom lashes are shorter at a millimeter. Has anyone ever heard of latisse having the opposite effect?

Loss of lashes while using Latisse is normal. Eyelashes go through a growth cycle. They grow, then are "dormant" for a period, then shed and start the cycle over again. Even without using Latisse your eyelashes will shed. I think because you're looking closely at your lashes while using Latisse, you tend to notice the shedding more. I'm a male who has been on Lumigan (the original Latisse drug for high eye pressure) for two years. I didn't give the possible side effect of eyelash growth much thought. We all know how many possible side effects are listed for most drugs. But after about 4 months, my eyelashes were a lot longer, darker, and fuller. They go through the normal cycle of growing, not growing, then shedding. Now when my new eyelashes come in, they are black, thick, and get extremely long. By extremely long I mean they reach the bottom of my eyebrows if I open my eyes wide. The bottom lashes are also much longer, but thankfully not as dark. Being a guy with eyelashes this long and noticeable was a bit embarrassing at first. But I'm now used to them, and it's a small price to pay for having my eye pressure lowered. So does Latisse work? Absolutely. But don't be surprised or think something is wrong when you lose some eyelashes. It's just a part of the normal growth cycle, the same as your head hair.

After 4 months of taking latisse I noticed severe shedding of my lateral lashes. I believe that latisse works well and that it promotes the lashes to sync and stay in a growth phase longer than normal but, the drawback is that the lashes will also be in sync for the shedding process. My lashes did shed overall rather much too! I was told to cut back on the dose to a couple times a week when I was happy with my lashes. I reduced to 3x’s a week. Then after the fall out I began I took it daily again. Then I developed three small cysts in my eye and severe irritation in both, after less than a week of use. My eye Dr. confirmed it’s from the latisse, but not serious; and an anti-inflammatory drop was prescribed. Irritation is gone but the 3 bumps are smaller yet still present. I have unopened bottles and am afraid to take them again but I did live through the initial results. I do think the price is a total cash cow and is shameful. If this was prescribed it’s rather cheap and the profits are still there!
