I forgot my Lisinopril 40 mg at work yesterday, so I didn't take my dose today and will miss it again tomorrow. Will I be ok if I miss two days?

Can I cut in half a 20mg/12.mg Losinopril/Hydrochloratizade and take 1/2 in the a.m. and the other remaining 1/2 in the p.m.? I am visiting

I normally take 20mg of Lisinopril 1x/day and today I took it at 8:30pm and my B.P. 10minutes afterwards was 180/100. Can I take another 20mg tablet within a 2 hour period to drop the B.P. and be safe.

My doctor told me to cut my 40 mg lisinopril in 1/2 which I did and it is 5 days later and my heart is beating too fast and my blood pressure is up to 133/86. What should I do now? I can't call my doctor until Monday and today is Saturday. Thanks.

It is safe to do this with any medication that is not time released.

Is there some reason, however, that you need to take a lower dosage?

Lisinopril is an ACE inhibitor that is used to treat high blood pressure and other cardiac conditions. If you have one of these conditions, it is very important that you take the proper dosage to keep them under control, so you shouldn't make any medication dosage adjustments, without checking with your doctor.

In addition, if you have been taking 40mgs and suddenly lower the dosage to 20mgs, you need to be aware that there will be rebound effects, which can include elevated blood pressure and elevated heart rate.

was taking 10mg of lisinopril. Hadn't been in to see him and needed a refill. He ordered 40mg in stead of the 10 I had been taking. Called to find out why and the nurse just said he upped it. I personally would rather go to 20 at first. Thats why I want to cut it in half. Will it work like a 20mg if I cut it?

I am guessing the 20 mg is about Benicar. Be sure the bottle label of tablets doesn't have ER after it. That means extended release. If it also says, like my Benicar, do not crush or chew I would definitely ask the pharmacist about it. It might have a costing that releases the dose over a 24 hour period of time.

Wanzy, it can be done, if your doctor approves, however, you should be aware that the Hydrochlorothiazide in it is a diuretic, so taking half at night will probably result in your having to get up frequently and urinate.

That is why most doctors have their patients take it in the morning, to prevent their waking up to go to the bathroom, all night.

I was prescribed 1 20mg pill daily. I take it once daily. Can I split the pill in half and take 10 mg every 12 hours?

I would recheck my blood pressure a couple more times maybe 15 to 20 minutes in between. Also sit comfortably about 5 minutes before checking it. One reading might not be enough. Hope this helps. If your doc hasn't given you instructions to repeat the dose I might hesitate to do it.

The hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) portion of the medicine can cause excess potassium to be excreted with urination. Usually, ACE inhibitors (Lisinopril) when combined with the HCTZ, offset the excess loss of potassium that can be caused by this type diuretic. Though in your case, perhaps they are not completely canceling out eachother's effect on potassium. Try eating a banana or a potato before bed. Or taking a potassium supplement in the evening (20 mEq) but remember- with potassium- more is not better as it can cause other problems in excess.

I have been on 20 mg Benicar. Was on 40mg. I want to know if I can safely split the 40 mg. Has anyone done this. My doctor said I could but in reading the label it says not to chew or crush the tablet. It does have a coating on it per bottle label. Splitting breaks that coating so the dose may not be accurate.
I was told by my doctors nurse a year our so back I could cut my Metoprolol ER in half when my dose was halved. In doing that I had problems and an ER visit likely due to having a different dose when tablet was split! My blood pressure went up and pulse rate also.
Appreciate and comments from someone taking Benicar or regards coated tablets. The 40mg is not scored in the middle either.

Only if your doc wants you on 20mg of Monorail (brand name)daily or wants you to split the 40mg into to doses, Fosinopri's a great drug. My brother (a cardio) prescribed it for me whims.f when i said I wanted to take all my cardiac modesty one time. However, as a physician myself, I know that the 40mg dose is the highest; I've taken then it for years. (I'm a psychiatrist but have a PhD in Pharmacology as well.) Cardiologists are becoming more careful with their dosing lately, too. Generically, it's not all that. The previous poster has all his medical information ducks in row, btw. P:lease take heed.
